I'm sorry but I don't agree. I've been around skydiving for some time and in my experience this statement is simply false. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Should there be underage skydiving?
IanHarrop replied to pacncathyjr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is not directed at the young lady who started this thread but at anyone who can answer the question with authority. As a parent I sign waivers for my child all the time. - The school wants one at the beginning of every year - I have to sign one every school field trip - I have to sign one for school sports - My son is an avid skier and I have to sign one when I buy his annual ski pass. All of these waivers supposedly absolve the school, the ski hill, the teachers, or instructors from responsibility if my child gets hurt. I would like someone to explain to me the difference between me signing away his rights so he can go to school or enjoy sports, and the waiver for skydiving. Come to Canada - the jumping season is shorter but the skiing is great! You can always get your jumping fix in the winter by heading down with the Canadian Invasion to Eloy. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I think that your defintion of bragging may be screwed up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- brag : verb {I} -gg- INFORMAL DISAPPROVING to speak too proudly about what you have done or what you own: - She's always bragging about how much money she earns. - {+ that} They bragged that their team had never been beaten. braggart : noun {C} OLD-FASHIONED DISAPPROVING someone who proudly talks a lot about themselves and their achievements or possessions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am not reading any thing that comes close to speaking "proudly" in the comments people have made about fatalities in our sport. More like horror is what I am getting. I don't think these people are glad they saw what they saw and I don't think they want to repeat it. I refer you back to my original post in this thread and suggest you seek professional help. This fascination with death and the desire to witness the terrible emotions of those that are closest to the victim is not right. Edited to add: - You scare me - I don't want to know you - I don't want to be anywhere you are - I think others should be afraid of you too - I hope no one leaves their gear unattended around you "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
-
I second the point above - you should seek help working through this as it is not healthy. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Since many dropzones are including the lats and longs of their location, it's possible to use this information and build a link to Mapquest automatically ythat would show where a dz is located. I think this would be a great feature for people wanting to get to dropzones other than their home. By example, here's a map to a dropzone in Alberta using the information supplied. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&formtype=latlong&latlongtype=decimal&latitude=51.3933&longitude=-113.4719 Actually I had to correct what they supplied and put the minus (-) in front of the longitude. Maybe the visual clue would help dz's get their information in right too. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Bump. I think that having the Elevation listed for dropzones would be an asset. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
