  1. I'm in the $25 - $40 k range. :(
  2. I know I can't really add to this, but I want to say a few things. (1) I think the instructors are underpaid. They risk their lives up there with students who are nervous and sometimes ungrateful , yet they go up, on their own free will to help someone else into the sport. What does an AFF-I net? Around 30 a jump? When you take in account most people pay upwards of $300 for a jump on a level one AFF, that isn't a lot for the Instructor. (2) With all this talk, you guy's make me glad that I picked a DZ that has been around "since the old days" and so have the instructors. They're worried about safety, progression of the students and a family atmosphere. However, I can see how a larger DZ, in a warm weather state would need more and more AFF-I's in this growing sport and taking new instructors and progressing them even faster than before. Is it good? No, but I think it is one of those things that a lot of people who quit the sport call "politics".
  3. Single - right now. Dated a girl for around a year, broke up with her and now I'm single and enjoying not having to worry about how someone else feels. Still, I'd like to find someone who enjoys computers / good cinema / and jumping out of airplanes..Don't see it happening anytime in the near future though!
  4. Let's see... My Sony 46' WS HDTV ... Why? Because the tubes are already goin' out and I can't get ahold of anyone at Sony to back up their warranty. My 2002 Celica GT.... Why? Damn $483 dollar car payment. More DVD's then I can count - guess that's what I get for havin' almost 600.
  5. Extremely. I would think it is common courtesy to go and try to find someone.
  6. As someone who has experience with most operating systems, I have to say I love OS X on my iMac. I have a Win2k box also and I've ran various variants of Linux, but none of them suited my taste and demands. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not bashing MS or various Linux distro's, just not my cup ole tea. However, it depends on what you want. I won't give you the "more stable " argument, as anyone knows that 2K or earlier NT's are all very stable. Same with a properly set up Linux box. If you do buy Apple - remember the intial cost is expensive (such like skydiving, as someone mentioned) and you'll need to relearn everything you ever knew about a computer. As for applications, there is a lot of OS X applications that can mimic your old favorite Windows applications or even better them . And if you still crave those Windows apps, well get VPC and run WIN2K emulation.
  7. According to the almighty Mapquest.com Distance: 75.54 miles Time: 1 hour, 51 mintues That is from my house. Cut off 20 mintues if I leave from work.
  8. If this is the case, then he is one of the greatest men ever, right along with Hugh Hefner. *hugs 20 gigs of porn and stack of playboys*
  9. Thank you very, very much. I really do apperciate it.
  10. Anyone know which file name's are the two the above poster mentioned? I'd check for myself, but I am bandwidth challenged and don't want to download a bunch of the wrong one's..damn dial up connection!
  11. I didn't feel near as nervous on my tandem. Infact, the only thing I truly dreaded was (1) the plane ride, as I had never been in a plane and (2) actually looking out the door. Once I was out though, I loved every moment of it.. This time though, I'm nervous just thinking about it. I know I'll be fine - as I jumped with Jim on my tandem and he was great and the rest of the staff seemed to be great also. There's just something about it... Either way, like someone said, that's why we do it. For the rush.
  12. I took an appertinceship up in body piercing , so maybe I can chime in. The PA is a real good first gential piercing. Heals easy and the pain factor isn't all that high and most people enjoy them. Me, personally, I had a frenum ladder (four) at eight guage and I loved those more than anything. I say "loved" because eventually I got rid of them, for no specfic reason. Just got tired of 'em. I would like to go ahead and get the ampallang, but I have put it off for years now. One thing I'm not sure about is how the piercings down below would feel with your rig / harness. Something you may want to take into consideration. A piercing should be functional and not limit you in your other hobbies.
  13. Well, I done a tandem with Jim Moore last Sunday and I just now called to make my arrangement to start the AFF program on this Sunday . My training starts at 9:00 am. Question: How nervous was you when you started it? It's days away and I'm extremely nervous. It took me a couple hours just to get the nerve up to call and tell them I wanted to do AFF and make the arrangement. I was not near this nervous before my tandem. And what kind of things can I expect? Oh and what's the death rates on people and level 1 AFF? :D
  14. http://tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-2772/ TVtome is your friend. :)
  15. No offense, but it would seem to me that Base would also have politics, though not on the same level. Still, if you get into it truly hardcore, you run into risks of arrests and many other things. Seems like an odd choice. Either way, best of luck to you and I hope you won't mind sharnig your knowledge with us newbies. ;)
  16. You also forgot that no matter how cool it is, it's not funny enough unless there is a monkey somewhere. My advice: Light yourself on fire, land the birdman suit on a matress and then let a monkey come and put the fire out! Sure fire hit (no pun intended)!
  17. One day, I'll understand the obsession with hacking consoles for these things. As someone who has been into the gaming scene since Atari (and still collecting) and loves computers, I still don't see the point. Hacking the DC was part of it's death, now people are doin' th Xbox, down to the extent that there was callers on TechTv's 'The ScreenSavers' lastnight calling, asking how to transfer files from their PC to their Xbox, just for storage. Come on people! It's a game console, leave it alone. The same applies to the mass clustering of PS2 processors - which shouldn't of been to hard, see'ing as it there is Linux kits out there and more than enough knowledge on the clustering process. I agree with the poster who said the idea of a "super computer" is dated. At one time, namely the 80's or so, it was a great idea. Now'a'days it really does not serve a true purpose, other than for CGI farms and maybe a project like S.E.T.I .
  18. Well, I went and saw 'A Perfect Circle' and 'Year of the Rabbit' live Saturday - so they are dominating my playlist... Year of the Rabbit - Rabbit Hole Year of the Rabbit - Lie Down A Perfect Circle - Hollow A Perfect Circle - Gravity Depeche Mode - Black celebration Those are my main five songs right now though.
  19. While I don't personally smoke, almost everyone in my family smokes and I have dated girls who smoked.. Can't say I enjoy doin' it, as when you kiss it tastes like an ashtry (in my opinion). I however won't judge someone who does smoke..-shrugs- Congrats tho! Best of luck!
  20. While I do not understand your reasoning, I congradulate you with doin' something you are happy about and I can almost grasp what you mean. I can see how if , you are under all the politics and pressures that the sport would lose it's fun. As with anything, when it's simpler it is funner. Speaking of which, I see a lot of people enter the sport and think they are going to become instructors / shoot video (and which they may) and in general make a second job of the sport. For me, I don't see that. It would take away of the simple fun I get out of it. Goin' to hang out at the DZ, gettin' to jump and land. None of the pressure. As for comments about too many ego's - ego's are in any sport or hobby. You're going to meet people who just want to show off and you are goin to meet people who are complete dicks and there are goin' to be people that are great to hang out with. Either way, best of luck in any new adventures you decide to take up, because we all know the basis of being a skydiver is the "rush". :D
  21. I don't even bother using I.E I use Safari on my iMac running OS X. I use Mozilla on my WIN2K. IE = Slow and clumbersome.
  22. I now blame it on the dorky caps / hats we students must endure. :D Whatever happened to a fashionable plain black headgear? Bah!
  23. My aunt is disfellowshipped and so is my mother, but my mother is currently trying to get re-instated. My grandmother will not even eat at the same table with my mother, due to her disfellowshipment. She got disfellowshipped for smoking, by the way.
  24. No offense, but while you have a good example of how bad the religion can be - I also have to point out, that any religion has extreme people. I know one person who is in the religion and even after I left, if he see's me he will stop and talk to me and act like I am still part of it. I guess my point is, while I agree the religion on a whole can be a huge mess, there are people who believe in it and there are people who are nice. Still, I can't recommend getting into the religion, unless its something you truly believe in.
  25. :D I have no jump buddies yet, as I just started and any buddies I shall make at the DZ already saw the action. It was odd, as I felt so calm durin' it, but when I watch the video it looks like I was about to pass out.
