poor thing! well, ever since i lived in london... they won't take my blood. i might have mad cow disease!!! I'm B+, CMV-. They were always after me to donate platelets. Being CMV- made my blood safer to give to people with compromised immune systems -- premature babies, and cancer patients. It was always gratifying to know that people who really needed it would be getting my blood. But alas, I spent a semester in England and then I told them so on a questionnaire, and they turn me down now. Pretty stupid. They need to be figuring a reliable and simple way to test for Mad Cow disease (actually vCJD) because ruling out so many donors is making it really hard on the blood supply. I was told they lost at least 1/3 of the U.S. donor base. Also, in England, any blood for use in those 12 and under must come from outside Europe! Only donations for those over 12 can be British. This is because of the suspected "incubation" period of vCJD being 10-20 years! The British gov't. apparently was trying to guarantee a future generation, because they were scared shitless that they'd have a HUGE population of people coming down with the disease. Well, that's what a government gets when it discovers the disease in cows, and despite not having any factual basis on which to say it, tells the public, "Never fear: this can't jump to humans." :mad: -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... One time while I was playing frisbee with my friend in college, he threw it to me and I "tipped" it 35 times and then caught it! We were amazed! I mean, I'm pretty good, didn't know I was that good! Dude, reading your story fills me with a huge load of sympathy, but also helplessness because I realize that there is nothing I can do to help/change things for you. I understand a sliver of what you are suffering only because I simply know what a bad headache can feel like. I am not someone who suffers chronic ones, or migraines, though. But I know enough about them to realize that pain in any part of the body pales in comparison to pain in the head. One can get along at work and everyday chores with pain in an extremity. Put that excruciating pain in the head, where your consciousness resides, and it is altogether different: it's like it takes over your being. I really wish you luck in conquering whatever the source of these headaches is, and luck in returning to full health.

IIRC, the chick in Vanilla Sky ended up DEAD, and the guy (the analog to your friend) ended up horribly disfigured. You might want to watch this one carefully. Oh, I don't mean to be rude, 'cause I know you were rushing to get the story told, but it got pretty confusing. I'm not even sure if you were talking about only one girl between the beginning and end of the story. The one about moving close and going to school nearby, is that a separate girl from the one who leaves the phone messages? Doesn't anyone have real names any more? They don't have real identities, real mentalities, real minds... why would they have real names? They're stuck in a juvenile mentality even as they become "adults." They're less about living their lives than they are about how people SEE them living their lives. These are walking egos, and they crave attention. They make up these silly ass names because it makes them feel special and important. I think it just shows how freakin' shallow they are. You have no doubt noticed that many of the "rap names" are just self-glorification attempts -- names designed to imply that they are the toughest, baddest, best, most this-or-that... It's just lame shit to me. And since when did the word "ice" denote that you are so wonderful? "Ice-T" "Ice Cube" "Vanilla Ice"... Is "ice" somehow now equated with being ultra-good, ultra-"cool"? That reminds me of two other rituals I have. When we are wheels-up, I make the "fly" sign language sign, and I gesture like an airplane taking off. And when I land, I usually can't help but let out a "woohooo" as I'm collapsing my parachute. Particularly hearty "woohooo!" as I landed my first night jump the other week and stood it up.

Yeah, I do that often too, but not every load. At the few DZs I've been to, this seems almost compulsory!
