  1. Unfortunately, people don't always help people in distress. That happens even in this country. Especially when people are disarmed and don't know whether anyone else will back them up. Don't you know, Kennedy, that that's what 911 is for?! Let the professionals do their job. Civilians are only apt to get themselves hurt. Um, the only problem is what do you do when there aren't any cops around? Anti-gun people never have an answer for this. Oh, no wait, they do -- they usually tell you that you should take some self-defense classes! Oh I think it would serve anyone right who ever said "only the cops should have guns" to be attacked and have people, unarmed, stand by unable to do anything to help them as they get savaged by criminals emboldened by the forced-disarmament of ordinary citizens. Nothing like being hoist on your own petard, eh, anti-gun fools? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  2. You know, I realize this will sound incredibly politically incorrect, and it doesn't necessarily reflect my actual feelings on the subject, but... does it not begin to appear -- given the incredible amount of civil strife in dozens of nations around the world -- that multicultural societies are beseiged with inter-cultural violence, and the best most peaceful societies are those that are more-or-less homogenous? What's it gonna take to make people live in harmony? Can disparate cultures live in the same country in harmony? Is it a pipe dream, that we should give up on? I mean, the evidence is in, and it does not look good, historically, for countries to mix cultures and expect any sort of peace. Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 3. From that article: So I'm trying to figure this out. Are they saying that Democrats need to actually BELIEVE in the right to keep and bear arms -- i.e. make a fundamental ideological change -- or just TALK like they believe in it? This article seems to say that they need to simply change the way they phrase their anti-gun message so that it sounds benign instead of sounding like the threat to gun ownership that it truly is. If Democrats pay a steep price for their gun stance (anti-gun) and Republicans do not pay one for theirs (pro-gun), isn't that like saying that the American people overall are PRO-GUN, and that the Dems are out-of-step with the mainstream? The article says that polls show that the public responds better to "gun safety" than "gun control." Oh, I see, so regardless of MEANING the same thing, (gun bans, of course, and ever-tightening restrictions, not to mention opposition to legal concealed carry), as long as they camouflage their anti-gun stance in more palatable, easy-to-swallow terms, they'll do better at the polls... Typical of the propagandistic crap that comes from Democrats regarding gun rights. They've finally caught on that the TRUTH of what they want re: guns is something that the public does NOT want. The "control" of guns, the legislating-out-of-existence of gun ownership is something abhorrent to the public, so in order to get it through, they plan to just CALL it something different. Why else would "Handgun Control Inc." change its name to "The Brady Center to Prevent Handgun Violence"? What a crock of shit. Same old gun-ban organization, new name. And "Americans for Gun Safety"?! WHAT GUN SAFETY?! How many "gun safety" programs do they operate? How many classes do they have to teach adults and children alike to use guns safely? How many "Refuse to be a victim" programs do they have? How many POLICE OFFICERS do their certified firearms instructors train to use guns safely each year? Zero, zero, zero, and zero. This gives lie to the bullshit name they've given themselves. It's like if the Nazi party in Germany had thought better of it and called itself "Germans for National Unity and Pride" in an effort to not come across as malevolent. Would it have changed anything? No. But it sure would be indicative of how cynically they manipulate the public through superficialities that deceive, just like the Democrats. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 4. Um, who's going to stand up, unarmed as a good little meek citizen "should" be, against criminals who are armed with knives? Maybe France needs to start issuing CCW permits. A single armed commuter bystander could have stopped this, and held them all for police while someone else used a cellular phone to summon them. In any case, isn't it enough for all of you that the French politicians have issued denunciations?! No protection. Just denunciations. This stuff sickens me, too. It's well beyond time for good people to fight back -- viciously. Things have gotten too far out of hand. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

  6. Well, it's true I was born with an analytical mind that doesn't let me just coast through life. I notice too much stuff, and yeah, some of it makes me angry. I would not characterize myself though, in general, as an "angry person." And I have to say that what comes across from me on this forum is a weighted representation of only one side of my personality. I guess it's where I vent the part that needs to be critical, and the impression that is given is "angry." But sometimes I'm agreeable and friendly: go figure. 7. I guess reading my post implied that I agreed with her and was congratulating her on her splendid character judgment ;). This was not the case, brother. By a 'good post', I meant that she simply stated that she had read your posts and that she did not respect your judment based on the content. I don't see a damn thing wrong with that. Michael Quote Actually, I did find her post to be well-written and articulate. At the very least, she punctuates well. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 9. 100 or so: 2: 2: 1: 1 of three: 4: 100 more. 100 miles or so to drive from West Palm Beach to Sebastian. 2 twelve-packs of Corona I brought with me 2 times I had to pay for them, because I had to inform the clerk that she'd charged me for only one of the twelve-packs. (I'm so honest!) 1 time so far jumping at Skydive Sebastian (and many more to come!) 1 jump plane at the DZ because the other two are up at CrossKeys 100 miles or so driving home -- and reallly needing to take a nap, trying hard to stay awake on the road. Skydive Sebastian is the nicest DZ I've been to so far in my 94 jumps. I had a blast!
  10. I don't think that any human being is completely at peace. That said, here's the back story. I love peace. I think peace is the most wonderful concept in creation -- better even than love, because it has the potential to contain love. My mother gave me a bookmark once that had the derivation of the name "Jeffrey": from Old French, meaning Heavenly Peace; Blessed One. I liked it, so I use it. I strive to be at peace. But just like you can be going through your day and realize, suddenly, that your shoulders are bunched and tense and you don't even know how long they've been like that, so do I try to be relaxed and peaceful during my days and nights but sometimes find that I've tensed up. I am not a belligerent person. I am not a violent person. I am given to strong emotion and strong convictions about issues. This is what happens to come across vehemently when I post, in many cases. But just like the fact that I'm a gun and knife owner and enthusiast does not mean I'm a dangerous or violent person, neither does the fact that my posts can be argumentative, emphatic, sarcastic, etc. mean that I'm not also a peaceful person, or that I don't at least try consciously to be. Is that enough of an explanation, or do you want to PM? Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  11. Sweet! Enjoy it! It's great to have your own rig! Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  12. I have never tried but I am sure a woodchipper is more than capable of chipping chickens. And if it's a cursed woodchipper, instead of bloody bits coming out the other side, you'd get the equivalent monetary worth of each chicken, in cash! If you love "Friday the 13th: The Series," lemme hear you say "YAY-UH!" Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  13. I was talking today with Nancy Tremblay, a great woman who is the heart of Ouragan Suits, and she's making me a custom freefly suit. She is a truly sweet, dear person (whom I've met twice and emailed lots), and she herself has a husband who suffered a severe skydiving injury. She is still by his side as he gains strength, and her own strength is to be admired. She asked me if I knew Nate Gilbert, and I said that I did not, but had heard he was injured. It saddened me when Nancy told me that he had died. I offer my condolences to all his friends and family. When Nancy told me that Nate had been trying to intercept a cutaway for someone else, it drew a picture in my mind of a friendly, helpful, skilled and confident skydiver, and yes, we are all victims of loss for having him gone now. I believe that when we die here we go to where we want to be and we have peace, so the sadness partly goes away when I think that Nate is now where the T-storms never roll in during the jump day, but maybe at night to make soothing sounds for bedtime. Peace, Nate. -Jeffrey
  14. Since this is obviously the beginning of a staunch trend, I recommend that you give up all remaining personal opinions you've held up til now and simply defer to mine. It'll make the transition to being correct all the time that much less traumatic for you.
  15. I was okay with it. She can feel whatever she wants to feel about me. She can say whatever she wants to say (within reason). It wasn't like I complained or something. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was a better-than-average post or anything, though. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  16. One of the things the lawyer in the article mentions is the deprivation of Fifth Amendment rights among others. I am curious about something. Where is it delineated and spelled-out WHICH Constitutional rights (assuming the subject in question is entitled to them at all) a person retains even when he is a criminal suspect, or a convicted criminal? I mean, there is no question that we do NOT grant SECOND amendment rights to convicts, and we don't even grant full FIRST amendment rights to them, necessarily (control of what they're allowed to read in jail, for instance, and what they're allowed to write in their correspondence, and whom they may associate with). So given that there is an obvious curtailment of which rights from among the Bill of Rights criminals have, WHERE IS IT SPELLED OUT EXACTLY HOW WE DETERMINE WHICH WILL BE TAKEN AWAY AND WHICH WILL BE RETAINED BY THE CRIMINAL? I mean, why are they still permitted to have FIFTH amendment rights but not second, or first, or fourth...? A guy in prison can't refuse a search of his cell or his person. He can't have a gun. His papers are not secure, and he can clearly have his correspondence intercepted, screened, and censored. Why then is it beyond question that he DOES retain, say, the right to counsel, or the right to remain silent, and not testify against himself? These are, after all, also Constitutional rights. So? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  17. I used to think clip-on ties were loserish fashion faux-pas untl I found out that they are better than ties for both the reasons specified: comfort and safety. I now think that the wearers of real ties are the dumb ones. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  18. Look, never would I have said that they should be stopped or prohibited from this -- only that I have utterly no respect for them having done it. One of those, "They should have restrained themselves" type of deals. Has nothing to do with being within the bounds of the law or not. It's more of a taste and decorum issue. The Dems have proved that they utterly lack decorum. I really doubt that the Republicans have had or are planning to have such a sick, degenerate hate-fest as this, complete with puffed-up, self-important hollywood schmucks the likes of Whoopsie Goldbern, Alec Baldwin, Barbra Streisand, Rob Reiner and Sean Penn. (These people may or may not have been there, but they're the core of the group I think of when I think of self-important hollywood types who think the public should give a shit which politicians and policies they support.) - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

  20. I don't know the history -- wasn't around for it -- so tell me if that was done in an obvious effort to influence a future election or just to lampoon the result of a previous one. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  21. Puhlease. Isolated cheap shots are not NEARLY the same as a huge "convention"-type atmosphere of celebrity after celebrity being cheered as they mercilessly and venomously lance into the President of the United States, with a contender for that office in attendance. That makes a huge amount of the difference, by the way: Kerry and Edwards were right there, reportedly laughing uproariously as these hacks shredded the President for everyone's shameful amusement. A big man, a great man, a man who should be president, should not tolerate the dragging of this campaign so far into a cesspool. And yet, mystifyingly, Kerry did tolerate it, and he laughed all the while. He doesn't even have the sense to distance himself from people like Goldberg and the other shrill, caustic Republican-bashers. That's not the kind of judgment I want in a president. It would be like if you walked into your high school principal's office and caught him and a few teachers looking at kids' photos in the yearbook and ranking them out, ridiculing them mercilessly. How highly would you think of your principal then? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  22. I'm not looking for respondents who actually attended the event. I myself did not attend. I was looking for people to defend what I had heard went on (and I'm sure we'll be hearing more about unless the liberal left media spikes the story). I thought it pretty clear that I had posted the link to an editorial about the event for that purpose. Sort of a "read this and tell me what you think of it." Isn't that common here? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  23. Massad Ayoob uses that very scenario in defending people who have righteously used a firearm in self defense against a knife-wielding attacker. There's more to the story, though. He goes into court, and has someone hold a dummy knife, and has someone else try to draw a dummy gun from a holster. Distance, 21 feet, I believe (that magic threshold). The kicker -- the knife-wielder is PRONE on his stomach when they yell "GO!" He gets up, charges the gun-person, and still wins the race. Reliably. Oh, and knife wounds are clinically much less survivable than gunshot wounds, according to what I've read. Not to mention knives never run out of ammunition, so they're lethal as long as they remain present. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  24. Homer Simpson: "Does liquor count as beer?" I am surprised that there are ten poll respondents who say they've been in at least one knife fight, period! Not me. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
