But that's not my standard. You sure do like putting words in my mouth! Come out to the gay boogie and meet me there and we can experiment with alternative things to put in your mouth. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

It must be an idyllic life to be so chronically incapable of understanding. Your standard for calling it "incapable of understanding" seems to simply be "doesn't agree with narcimund." Faulty standard. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

That is part of the problem the world is experiencing. There are people whose societies are mature enough to have moved past despotism to elected representative government, forced to live right alongside societies that have not come that far and thus are DANGEROUS for many reasons. If you are in a republic, it's a lot harder to get your country to go forward with a plan to invade and conquer, because there will be disapproval and resistance to that plan from within. If all you need is some clerical leader of a country making a despotic decision, isn't it easier to order up a war? Isn't it easier to get sponsorship for terrorism to happen? So, how long should the civilized world wait while the laggers catch up -- or don't even make an effort to catch up? If your neighbor was storing sweating sticks of dynamite in the shed near the fence that's 6 feet from the corner of your house, is it not in your interest, and your right, to try to encourage him to get rid of it and store more stable stuff there? It's also like a neighborhood homeowners' association requiring that homeowners can't let their properties fall into disrepair because it brings down the neighborhood. Pressure can be brought to bear, and it's really not wrong in the case of sovereign nations dealing with DANGEROUS sovereign nations and their leaders. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Um, fine. But I mean, what's the point of calling it an Atheist Boogie if people are going to do religious things? What's the point of calling something a Gay Boogie if it'll be just the same old people who'd be there anyway if it were not specified gay? When the argument is raised that the gays should have a day when they can flirt more effectively because normally it's 10-to-1 straight/gay, and then they have a boogie where straight people are once again likely to outnumber them the same as they always do, I don't see the point. It seems that the wide-open invitation itself is what undoes the point of the specific kind of boogie... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

"Democracy" was born with the name "freedom"? I think the point is, we try to get them to hold free democratic elections that will elect NON-TERRORIST, NON-DESPOTIC leaders. Anything else defeats the purpose of democracy. What if the people of the United States elected David Duke, and a bunch of other bigoted congressmen, and managed to get the Constitution amended to actually specifically allow slavery, and then any non-white could be enslaved? Would you think everyone should be all right with that? Certain "election" outcomes are not satisfactory on a very basic level of principle. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Does a gay man skydive differently from a straight man? Does a lesbian skydive differently from a straight woman? Bill, you're wide of the target again. You're talking about GENDER, not what you claimed to be talking about, which is SEXUALITY. Has Brian Germain spoken about the differences between gay and straight skydivers? Because you brought up the differences between WOMEN and MEN. Not at all the same thing, and not at all on topic. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
-
{sigh...} This is not a sexuality boogie. it's an affinity group boogie. And thus the entire argument dissapears in a puff of smoke. Skydivers don't like each other enough to just have a "skydivers' boogie," then? It has to be specified to be about a sexual-orientation-affinity? You missed again. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

QuoteI'd love it if this thread goes on forever (without degenerating negatively). It's good marketing. Keep it up. Quote Heh, "keep it up." Is that a sexual reference? Um, I just came up with a fabulouth way you can thank me for giving you all thith exthpothure and publithity!... I started a thread to gripe about a gay-specific boogie, and before you know it, the thread was FLaMinG! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

That really is not the reason I go to the dropzone. I go to the dropzone to skydive. If there's the chance to flirt, I may take it, I may leave it. I certainly won't do a bunch of jumps and then go home lamenting that I couldn't get any flirting done at a place where I go to skydive. So what if gay people don't get as clear a chance to flirt at the dropzone? Is there supposed to be some entitlement to equal opportunity to flirt? Like, if there are only 3 known gay people there, but 17 known straight people, the straight people are being given something unfair and the gays stand to have something done on their behalf to even things out?? So sorry that there aren't as many gays around as there are straights. Is that something straights have to come up with a solution for? Besides, if a gay person wants to test someone's tolerance, he can just check out the asses of, and flirt with, the straight guys. See what happens then. I'm completely straight, but if a gay guy makes some flirtation with me, I can handle it and make a joke out of it or whatever and it's no big deal to me. And if a guy OR a girl wants to check out my ass and like it (as in look at it...) fine! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I think it's because you want me to do some of my fancy knots on you... I propose the [B]ATHEISTS' BOOGIE. Just to see supposedly tolerant people show that they aren't, really. Because atheists are clearly not supposed to have rights, and everyone knows atheists are evil, amoral people. No one will be allowed to pray to god for a successful skydive. In fact, everyone will be required to be responsible for the success of his/her own skydive. And everyone will be expected to be nice to other people because that's a better way to make the world work in a peaceful, pleasant manner and to make life good, and not because they fear eventual punishment for misbehavior and mistreatment of their fellows. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... "Harvard President Ousted" Damn! One letter different and this coulda been another obscenely funny and enjoyable GAY thread! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

No one is denying you that right. But you posted your feelings in Speaker's Corner, so did you honestly expect a few pages of people simply agreeing with you? It seems that most people on here just don't feel the same way that you do about this boogie. I got less of a sense of "I don't agree with you" and more of a sense of "Who do you think you are to challenge it?" in the responses. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I can't vote in that. I don't feel that any of the choices are across-the-board valid of all cops, or even of a police department in general. Some departments around here are well-known for being rife with various types of corruption. Riviera Beach, for example, is a shitty town and has a police department in which some of the members get arrested for beating or killing their wives. There was one case in which a female cop shot and killed her husband on Thanksgiving day a few years ago. (Claimed he'd been beating her; but I don't think the shooting was done during a beating that she was seeking to end because she feared for her life or anything. I think it was done retribution-, I've-had-enough-of-your-shit style.) Pahokee, Florida's police department is so corrupt that they are DISBANDING IT and replacing the department's duties with Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputies to do the police work there. (Pahokee is also a slum of drugs, AIDS and criminality, festering in its own feces.) I long ago stopped believing that Mr. Officer is your Friend and He's Here to Help You in an altruistic and magnanimous sense. I've seen and heard cops be asshole jerkoffs. And I've been on the receiving end of VERY professional, courteous treatment by them. Overall, I think that if you don't act as an asshole to cops, you are not going to have a problem with them. Avoid committing criminal acts, for one. Avoid DRESSING and CARRYING YOURSELF in a way that EMULATES criminals (think "hip-hop dress" and demeanor) and you will not be associated, mentally, with criminals in a cop's mind. Be polite and respectful when you deal with cops who approach you. What makes you start this thread, anyway? Have you been unjustifiedly hassled by cops? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

You just answered your own question, then. It only took 152 posts, but we got an answer. Huzzah! Ridiculous leap of logic, there. My point was that if we are going to do skydiving at all -- a rather pointless activity (we go up, we come down; we go up, we come down...) -- then we're going to have events for it. So if the activity itself is accepted, then events at which to do it are no longer "pointless." What is pointless is to then put arbitrary divisions among those who do it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

How Do YOU Feel About The Possible Port Purchase and Why?
peacefuljeffrey replied to boinky's topic in Speakers Corner
What's that reply for? Are you peeved at the spelling mistakes but don't want to be flamed as a spelling-flamer? Or do you have something to say about his premise? Or are you just having trouble articulating? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
How about you show me the "compelling need" for Lost Prairie or the Byron Boogie or the WFFC? I haven't been to those, don't know really what they're about or if they're "themed," but in general I would think they're just for generic skydiving, not skydiving for gay people, or any other special interest group. There is no "need" to skydive at all, let alone to do certain kinds of skydive disciplines, or to have special skydive events. If we're going to skydive at all, it makes sense to have some sorts of events. But to me, it doesn't make sense to have skydive events that have to do specifically with a given sexual preference. Might as well have a blond-haired-people boogie -- and then say that oh, yeah, anyone with any color hair can come, too. (Makes the blond-hair thing moot, just as inviting heteros to a gay boogie makes being gay there moot, and sort of blows the theory that it's about making gays feel at ease there more than on any usual day at the DZ.) It's amazing how many people will come out of the woodwork in a thread like this, not to address the question, but to challenge the asker for even posing the question, and imply that he has no right to do so, or that his right to disagree with the boogie is diminished before the right of those who agree with it to agree with it. Y'all claim to be the tolerant ones, but you appear pretty filled with hateful intolerance to me... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

The 30 people who have all tried to appease "Peaceful" Jeffrey and been ignored are all wondering if there anything that can get through to him or if he's just going to keep antagonistically pounding his miserable misunderstanding over and over and over. Either (A) he has no sense of fun or (B) he's intentionally missing the point so he can try to convince anyone else that an enjoyable party is something it isn't. How about it Jeffrey? How long will you keep ignoring the obvious so you can be argumentative and political about PEOPLE HAVING A GOOD TIME TOGETHER? All day, I suspect. Maybe longer. How many posts would it take for me to reply to before you are satisfied that I am not "ignoring" posts? In fact, who has the plurality of posts til this point, anyway? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
-
That's about the only offered reason so far that I think seems pretty legit. Thanks. - Why do you need a reason to get people together? You obviously haven't been paying attention. It's not about "people getting together." If that was all it was about, it would be a regular day at the dropzone. This was specifically about an event that caters to a specific sexual orientation, and then applying that to skydiving, for what I view as no compelling reason. Gee, it really seems as though a bunch of people here want to deny me my right to feel that there's no compelling need for a gay boogie. Surprise surprise, there's intolerance among the people who scream loudest for tolerance. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
