  1. Nope. You're in America. We're not telling you to do anything. This is about British laws. No one's taking away anyone's right to protect themselves. We still have the right to protect ourselves in the UK although we've never had the right to protect ourselves with the use of a firearm. See, we've never had the right to own a firearm, only a privilage. Therefore we've never had the right to use that gun for self defense - only a privilage. No one has lost any rights. None of us are telling you that you must; your countrys laws have nothing to do with us. Why do you suppose you have something to do with ours? Do you not understand that I'm talking in the figurative sense that "ONE" must give up his right to defense with a gun? Of course I'm not saying that your country's decisions force me, over here in the U.S., to give up my guns -- although there ARE people in your country trying to export your gun control insanity, in the argument that contravenes your old saw about what laws are good for one culture are not necessarily good for a different one. And for what it's worth, if I were in a position of having to harp on how I never did have a "right" to this or that, I'd do so with painful self-consciousness and a lot of humiliation, rather like having to talk about having had to give oneself an enema prior to a medical procedure. Not something I'd care to talk so frankly about. But you seem nonchalant as you freely talk -- as though there's no shame in it -- of lacking rights, as subjects of a government. I just can't get with that. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  2. Do you realize the ludicrous nature of coming here and claiming that Britain is a safe place "because their (sic) are no guns"???!! There are no guns??! End of discussion. You would need to be more attuned to the REALITY of the situation to make discussing this worthwhile. A statement like "there are no guns" in Britain is just preposterous on its face, and merits no further comment. (To say nothing of "most villages only have around 2000 people in them"... Has England got no cities? How do you have nothing but villages with 2000 people in them, yet have a population of 60,000,000? 30,000 such villages, I suppose? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 3. Some people have a problem with locking down their right to have guns for their own protection, in your attempt to keep from "facilitating" Dunblane-type massacres. My guns won't be used for a massacre, so they're not a threat to society at large. Telling me that I have to give up my right to protect myself so that society can enjoy the illusion that it has been made safer is just crap. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  4. WAIT A MINUTE. mr2mk1 said that it is LEGAL to use lethal force to meet a lethal threat when the threat to life is credible. You two contradict each other. He says so right here Maybe, but I can justify my opinion....several innocent children have been slaughtered recently over here due to the increase in availability of guns. I would like to see this stopped, but then I obviously need my head examined Obviously. You realize you just spoke of "the increase in availability of guns" even as we are observant of the fact that the guns are OUTRIGHT BANNED in the U.K.?? The point is, the ban isn't keeping guns from the criminals, so why keep the honest people disarmed?? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  5. But what about the part where you're outside of your own home? Your laws prohibit the carrying of ANY ITEM THAT COULD BE USED FOR SELF DEFENSE. Not only can't you carry your shotgun to defend yourself, you can't even have a KUBOTAN, much less, say, a knife like a Spyderco Military or something. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  6. It does me no comfort or reassurance to think that there are some people out there who choose not to be violent criminals simply because they are dissuaded out of it by the prospect of being killed by a homeowner. Like, they're sitting there going, "Y'know, I have no other problem with robbing and maybe killing people except for the danger to me that exists in such a pursuit, so I think I'll go legit." Seems to me that they are just always on the precipice of doing honest people harm, if that's the tenuouis way in which they come to be on the right side of the law. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  7. Why on earth do you find it at all preferable to be stabbed to death with a knife rather than shot to death with a gun?? Or are you claiming that you'd rather be attacked with a knife because you feel you're badass enough to go bare-handed against a guy with a knife? Like your triumph is assured, if "all he has is a knife"? Or are you misinformed enough to believe that knife wounds are not statistically more lethal than gunshot wounds? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  8. It is off the wall. The thing is, criminals do get them. It's a false assumption that these laws actually do make it "semi-difficult for these idiots to get access to guns." The issue then becomes, what options do their victims have, since we have to assume the assailants have guns if they so desire? If you have no gun, you can do nothing but capitulate. If you have a gun, you can capitulate if you wish, or you can fight. I prefer to have as many options as possible. See, your implication is that gun laws that keep honest people from having guns also stop determined criminals from acquiring them, and that's a fallacy. Your scenario of the guy with the pipe maybe having a gun... already, it's by luck alone that he didn't. Pipe or gun, the assumption has to be made that the victims were as good as dead, upon the whim of the assailant. Now, given that, I think it makes the most sense to let the victims be armed. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  9. That's a good thing, for you, since being caught with anything that can reasonably be used as a weapon -- even a defensive weapon -- is viewed as a serious crime in Britain. As for the soccer hooligans and such not being armed with guns... Who says that the people who are a threat to you have to be armed with guns in order to be a threat to you? Or for it to make sense for you to be able to defend yourself with a gun? I mean, if two or three guys with knives come to attack you on a deserted street, should you have to go at it with them with your bare hands, or even a knife of your own? What are your chances then? So it seems clear that a gun might suit a person for self defense even if his assailants don't have them. Make sense to you? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  10. What brought you around? Every time gun crime and violent crime comes up for discussion here, we get a few guys claiming resolutely claiming that everything we know, every report we've read, about a rising tide of crime in Britain is false. And then we get the guys telling us that human truths are not human truths, and that allowing people to be armed for their own defense may work in America, but somehow it just could never work in Britain. I answered that people should be allowed to carry on their person, like any truly free people. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  11. Are those that hard and high-velocity? I was thinking maybe she got hit with one of those 12 ga. beanbag rounds, or a rubber bullet. It makes me sick that so many people have no problem with this stuff being used by police against crowds because of the bullshit monicker they stuck on it all: "non-lethal." People take that to mean "non-dangerous," or "incapable of killing." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  12. On the early morning (or late night, depending on your perspective ) news, they are saying that in the "celebrations" after the Red Sox' win, there have been several CARS BURNED. What the fuck is wrong with sports fans, that they do this kind of shit. Never mind that it's a fucked up, asshole thing to do when your team LOSES -- this is what people now do when they fucking WIN?! The fire is started by a single person who decides to do it. What is on that fucking moron's mind?! "Gee, I'm so happy about my team, I think I'll destroy this person's property! Oooh boy, what fun! That'll tell the world how much I am glad about the Red Sox' victory!" -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  13. Heh, that's exactly what's in mine! I made it using a yellow foam practice golf ball. When I made my first Monkey's Fist handle, I used a real golf ball (a "War Bird" by Callaway!) and once it was finished I realized it was too large, too heavy, and too hard. That's when I made my current handle, the all-blue Monkey's Fist with the yellow foam core. They come out the perfect hand-size, very lightweight, and just a little bit "squeezy." By the way, these things are very difficult to make! That one in the picture is the result of at least 2-3 hours' work! But worth the effort, in the end.

  15. No... it couldn't have been for the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS SHE'S WORTH. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  16. DARE stands for "Drug Abuse Resistance Education" (unless they changed it). Around here, I've seen cop cars decked out as low-riders, with fancy rims and paint jobs and accessories, all "DAREd-out," trying to appeal to "homey." It's a sickening waste of money. Cops trying to appeal to gang-bangers and shit reminds me of Mayor Quimby on The Simpsons trying to "relate" with the kids at the comic book convention, but calling the superhero "Radiation Man" instead of "Radioactive Man." All the kids knew he was a fuckin' poser jerk. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  17. I don't know if they skated or responding or not. What I do remember was quite clear, since I was at ground zero living here in Palm Beach County (don't worry, I'm not one of the fuckin' morons who couldn't figure out how to vote for who he wanted): the Florida Supreme Court extended recounts (the ad nauseum attempts by Gore people to find a way of claiming that Gore had won) to an arbitrary date despite the fact that Florida elections law was EXPLICITLY CLEAR ABOUT THE DEADLINE FOR RECOUNTS. They searched and searched for ways to buy time for Gore-ites, and the USSC stomped them down to reality. Sorry, you don't get unlimited time to finagle a way to speciously show that Gore won the state. For the record, no, I don't think we'll have a clear, uncontested election. Polls are saying over and over that Bush and Kerry are in a dead heat. When that continues to election day, it's going to mean that whoever loses (most likely Kerry) is going to scream that there were voting irregularities and that the whole election was a fraud. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  18. His hero is John "I don't fall!!" Kerry?? I always thought Tuna was a Bush man... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  19. I voted "Voter Fraud." Whenever they lose something, they blame it on something wrong or illegal that they claim the Republicans did. It can NEVER be because they and their ideas are simply not popular enough with the people to win them elections. After all, everyone knows that they deserve to be in charge of us all... they just don't always get what clearly they deserve, since they're so smart and know what's best for all of us, and how to run our lives. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  20. Hi everyone. I was just curious about what kind of deployment handles are most popular. Regardless of what kind you have, do you have it because you picked that kind, or was it just what came with your rig? I'm interested in this because well before I ever knew that Monkey's Fists were used in skydiving (a fact I find really really cool!), I just knew them as a knot that I had learned from a book. I've been making simple ones since 1993, and when I found out that they could be used as handles, I just had to make one for my rig, from royal blue paracord. And just a few days ago I made one with two colors, for the first time. (Never seen any done that way, either.) Pic attached of my new Blue-Green Monkey's Fist. What do you think?
  21. Hmm... Interesting... coming from Mr. "What is S&M?" Its BDSM that I dont know.... BDSM is "Bondage & Discipline / Sadism & Masochism." You can imagine my confusion -- I knew that before I knew what "BSBD" means!! I was seeing that all over skydiving posts and going "whoaaaa...." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  22. Cool pics. I like the foot-rope one -- nice creativity there.
  23. I was thinking the same thing! Yeah, Shelley is gorgeous!
  24. Yeah, I still remember that Moonraker sequence. It was the intro. Jaws and Bond fought over a single parachute, and then Jaws ended up coming down on top of a circus tent that broke his fall (and enabled him to survive). (Who knows?... It could work! ) TV: There was an episode of Cheers where a whole bunch of the cast went for a first skydive. Of course, the depiction was like they were all gonna solo out of a DC-3 or something. The plan was for them to hold a banner that advertised Cheers. But they all chickened out, until the pilot pretended to have engine failure, and they all "bailed out." I mean, watching a show with such a pathetically stupid and unrealistic plot device, I have to ask why they bother to write stuff like that. I typically dislike shows that have to distort stuff so grossly in order to make it fit a false perception of how things are. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
