Empuriabrava (Jurassic) reunion dec 22th
brokky replied to brokky's topic in Events & Places to Jump
22th of december at Empuriabrava:(1st day of x-mas boogie) Big party the idea is to gather as much Empuriabrava staff, ex- staff, regulars and ex-regulars as possible. People not belonging to any of these categories are of course also welcome. Evening party with video (you don´ t want to miss that one..) and maybe even a few drinks... More info soon. Hi Tobi, Hope your operation went well and I wish you a speedy recovery. About the accuracy: although i never really liked the stand up rule , the real problem is that competitors can pull up as high as they want to avoid overshooting. There´s been injuries because of that at many competitions. Maybe a second set of sencors (for example at the end of zone 1) with vertical extension penalty (0..)can lower the risk of injuries ??? just an idea... Bruno wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

Hey Ben, I am using an EF 17-40 mm with a 5D and I like the results. Now this lens on a rebel xt (or 350D,400D) would be like +/- a 27-64mm.If you are happy with this range and want to go for a full frame camera soon this is a good lens. If you plan to stick with the rebel for a while I would get the 10-22 EF-S (would be like a 16-35mm) and sell it later. Here´s a picture taken with the 5D and the 17-40mm( at 17mm) and a detail of it. Bruno wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

Hey Karen, For me the Spectre with dacron lines is an amazing canopy for cameraflying, mainly for the openings...the dacron lines give it that bit of elasticity so that even when the opening occasionally is a bit faster it never slams you. I agree , it is not the hottest flying canopy out there but you can still have a lot of fun with it. It´s not that I don´t like faster canopies, ( been jumping velo´s and competing at many swoop comps for a while now ) but the Spectre gives me that extra peace of mind so I can concentrate on filming. Years ago , I regularly had neck problems due to hard openings with a camerahelmet.Haven´t had any of those problems during the last 8 years that I have been jumping Spectres. Have fun taking stills! When filming from the top, pulling at break-off gives you probably the most separation from the group( horizontal AND vertical separation).Going to the middle and pull at normal altitude works if the people you film are good trackers and they know you´re there. It´s also a good idea to have an audible alti set for the planned break-off altitude and just pull then. The trackings tend to be short if the break-off is for any reason lower than planned. wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

Yeah I got that part a long time ago when learning to shoot video. My question, more specifically is what is his(laszlo's) thoughts/experiences on the distances mentioned when using a full frame sensor (5d) and the 15mm. If the lens is only appropriate say from 1-5 feet from the subject(s) then its more suited to tandems or small groups that you can stay relatively tight with. At what point/distance using the 15mm on the 5D does the subject(s) start to become that little spec in the sky? You ´ll have to stay reasonably close, but even at bigger distances the quality is not bad. Attached is a picture of a "bigger" group , taken with the 5D and canon 15mm,with a detailed part of the same picture. Enjoy your camera!! wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

You will need to buy a Canon cable release for the 5D (same as the one on the 20D, not a standard minijack like on the 350D/rebel) cut it and connect to any standard bite/blow switch. enjoy the 5D! wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

great! means you have a Sigma for Canon then.... wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

Sigma makes lenses for several brands of cameras. You just have to make sure that you buy one that will fit a Canon.(it says on the box). hope this helps.. wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

Empuriabrava weather over december ?
brokky replied to RandomLemming's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Next time you get off the plane here, please drive on the right side of the road... wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com -
With rears you don´t only change the angle of attack of the wing.By applying too much rear riser you actually destroy the airfoil itself ( pulling down only the C and D lines ).That´s why rear risers are only effective with minimal input. In the future we will see better canopies but also better risers ( For example 4 risers per side with a gradual system like some paragliders have...) wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher
brokky replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Here are some names of people that had to land in the recent years with a broken or dislocated arm/shoulder: Charles Von Zurich B.J. Worth Kate Cooper Derek Thomas Peter Lawson Vincent Van Laethem. And I am sure there´s many more and many of you know somebody that had a similar problem . Most of the times ,a cut away is just another cut-away,sometimes it´s survival. wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com -
PD Reserve wingloading 2:1 and higher
brokky replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Just upsized last year from a pd126R to a 143. I think the question is not if you can swoop your reserve or not. When you use the reserve, maybe you ended up lower than you expected under an open canopy ,with less options for an open landing area. Maybe you need to do a landing approach with less than full speed due to the small landing area. Also,I know of 3 friends of mine that had to land a reserve with a dislocated shoulder. The lower loaded reserve is a much better option in this case. But maybe it´s just me getting older... wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com -

Roman from Jetcat couldn´t make it so Yves had to start the engines on his own. Skipete flew the plane (as usual). wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

I called him today, he is already at work , flying his ( 2 engine...) Airbus. I´ve got some video, not really good...due to lack of room in the porter, I was the fireman ,videographer and photographer.I´ll see if i can compress the video in the next days.. wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com

Not sure if this is the right section to post but since there´s no aircraft section in this forum ,the wingsuit flying section was the next best option... Last thursday ,Yves Rossy did a flight with his wing equiped with 4 jet engines. After a few training jumps with dummy engines (to simulate the weight and drag)he did a few flights with 2 engines. With those he was able to fly level and in formation with the porter. Then he installed 2 more engines...,started the engines, exited the porter at 11000ft with the wings folded back, deployed the wings and then full throttle....the result :he was flying fast and climbing sometimes reaching 1000ft/min.,and just left the porter behind. After 5 min. flight he shut down the engines, glided to pull altitude (about 6000ft) and deployed his big parachute. All I can say is: respect to Yves .He´s been trying for years to get to this stage and this with limited support. Hope he finally finds a big sponsor to go on with his project . wuk?? http://www.brunobrokken.com
