  1. This one I am curious on - just how would you do that? ANYTHING aviation related is going to have a large overhead. Don't forget that most of it would have to be done by union TV workers - that adds to the cost as well. I happen to know a few people that do video production for a living - the cost of that equipment is not cheap at all...esp since you want good looking video. Then there is the character generation, animation, music, and license fees. Then you have to pay the hosts, editters, voice overs, etc. None of that comes cheap. I'm not telling you to not pursue anything. This sport is full of innovators that went against the flow and changed it for the better. Do what you need to do. But just realize there are significant costs when it comes to production for TV. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 2. I just read about this in the paper as well...was on my way to post it in SC. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0501210325jan21,0,2163538.story?coll=chi-news-hed Shouldn't be too long before this thread gets moved. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 3. You have to be one of the most contrary individuals I have ever met. I wasn't doing a comparison - I was stating a fact that there was a first movie and that it never hit the streets. I don't care if it was done by Corman or not, it was still a bad movie. FWIW, some B movie directors have made a step up to the prime time - Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi come to mind. According to the information at the link I provided, that movie did make it to the final weeks of editting. If you can't find a link to prove otherwise, well...then I won't believe you. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 4. Agreed - all PCs have some issues and can drag to a crawl. I use my laptop for just about everything and it runs slow as shit now. However, the PC I use for performance (digital editing and gaming) runs like a dream because I've trimmed it down and did some registry hacking to get it to do what I want. Then again, just about any consumer computer has a ton of glut on it that isn't needed to help drive sales. Including mac. Nothing will ever run as fast as a custom built mission critical server. edit to add: Get video of that skydiving PC! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. A lot of the details of that first film used to be on the "Coming Attractions" website that was hosted on Corona - the site closed and merged with Cinescape. All of the "Development Heck" pages from the early 90's version are now gone for good - it was a comical read. I think that Aint It Cool News has talked about it at length if you want to search their backlogs. The new Development Heck isn't as strong as the first incarnation and it tends to suck up to the studios so they can get interviews for their magazine but you can find a summary of it here (it treats it a bit too fair): http://www.cinescape.com/0/editorial.asp?obj_id=36858&aff_id=0&this_cat=Development+Heck The current movie has been in talks since 1992 and didn't get rolling until 1997. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 6. I wear my swoop cords under my gloves because I don't want the loops out there more easily able to snag on stuff, like my hacky. (I would hate to throw out and bring my hand back in front of me to find I had my PC stuck in it.) I test my swoop cord length carefully, with a margin for error, to make sure I can still reach everything I need to. So I may be sacrificing some swoop cord performance range for the flexibility and cleanliness I want, but that's how I do it. I've worn swoops on almost all of my jumps - they are a terible hassle and I have too many stories of them getting snagged on something. However, you never want to have them under your gloves - as said before, people have died from that scenario. Their are too many ways for your hands to get snagged and restrict your other hand from moving. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. I've been on the Internet since 1986 running Unix(s) and (more recently) Mac OS X, and taking absolutely no precautions against virii/spyware/adware. I've never had any of them. Boy, I must be really lucky!!! Hey, ya' know what? I'm gonna go buy a lottery ticket! I've been on the net full time since about 1991. I grew up on Apple's, TRS-80s and the classic Mac and I really like OSX. I was an AIX administrator for a few years, part of that time was at IBM working with the engineers that created the RS6000 line and the software. I can tell you from their mouth that there are holes that can be found in all System V unix variants. But the people that attack those systems are not your run of the mill hacks looking to get press with their new worm - they are looking to do a bit more damage which is why you don't hear about them as much. They have very focused attacks. You don't see worms spread on Macs as much because there just are not as many of those sitting on desktops. It makes perfect sense to think that the more clients you have to spread a worm, the more prolific the infection will be. Also, most of these hacks like to target PCs because of their M$ $ucks attitude - just read the 2600 forums and you will see how much they really hate MS _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. You can set all of those to update automatically when you are online. That's not too hard to do - just log on with dial up, or leave the PC on while you are on broadband. btw - there is plenty of spyware and virii for Mac and Unix, it just doesn't make as much news. Hell, there are virii for Java based cell phones. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  9. Ride Check - If I can get approval from the boss, I will be flying in Thursday night at 9:55p to Ft Myers and the flight out would leave around 7:30p _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  10. You should check out the description they put for the weather on the Chicago Sun Times - its an editorial every day about the weather on the front page. Today it says "Enough Already" and I have seen "angry, odd, sad, cheerful, neverending rain, etc" _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. Make that another one - I created a new character "Birdemani" and paired up with someone to get up to level 5 1/2 quick. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  12. Both said by PK. Why kick a man that isn't even here anymore? Let it go. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  13. Makes you wonder how they will balance that off. There are a ton of high level heros in that game now - I've played a few minutes on my friends account and saw a fair share at level 50 already. Maybe new PvP servers like in WoW. I wish I had the time/money to play both - it looks like a fun game. It was interesting to watch them get rid of the Nazi enemies because of the new Germany servers. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. Yup, I keep hearing PvP for that as well. However, you will not be able to fight others within your own class (villian/hero). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  15. Pick up RCT3 - it's the best version yet. It has a sandbox mode where you can take all the time and money you want to build a park and/or scenario (no more hacking to do that). Also, it has a Coaster Creation mode where you have the same unlimited time/money to design what you want. Blizzard has always been the toughest on code, authentication, mods, etc. The good thing about that is the quality in their games is always top notch. Isn't there a console version of Starcraft coming out soon? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. Are those the same guys that made the mod for BF Vietnam? (kinda full circle making a WWII mod, no?) Have you ever tried to even make a level? In college we used to make our own maps for Doom and Doom 2, but once they started making levels that had true depth to them it became hard to do. When I saw the first true total conversion (Aliens for Doom) I realized I never had a chance in that industry. I picked up the UT2K4 special edition with the DVD that teaches you step by step on how to create everything for a level and I am still in the second lesson. I just don't have the time or patience to do that much detailed work. It's always nice to hear stories about gamers that get hired from their mods - but those stories are rare. Part of the problem is that there are too many terrible mods to work your way thru, esp when you have some someone that hacked apart the engine to change some rules of the game. edit to add: I'd love to work in the game industry but all the jobs are in CA and I'm not in the mood to think about moving anywhere right now. To this day I still kick myself in the ass for quitting a job as a paid beta tester for Battletech - I was in college and my mind was more on the newmedia than gaming. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. Check out www.Contiki.com I had a friend go solo on one of their European trips this past summer - she loved it and made plenty of friends along the way. The group you will travel with will be made up of people from 18-35 from all around the world. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 18. Good to see they went with a full upgrade - I skipped on Battlefield Vietnam but loved BF1942. I may hold off on buying it when it comes out - that will be jumping season and I have a stack of games I am playing thru right now. That may change since we are going to get 8 or 10 more inches of snow this weekend - looks like I am staying in and gaming all weekend. WoW, CS:S or UT2K4 anyone?? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  19. Jack, Thanks again for doing this yet again. The larger tent last year was the perfect size and it really helped when the rain came down. Hope things get better for you two and you can make it up here. Can we send you a money order to your attention via the store? Who should we make it out to? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. You can always check out www.BroadwayInChicago.com I just saw "From Fear to Eternity" on the Second City Etc stage last week - it's one of the best shows/troops I have seen there in some time. The best part about it is that it's half the price of the main stage (it cost me $36 for two tickets) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. And then there are the stories when the person should have had one. I'm sure you have heard Mike Wolf's story about his cutaway and how he really could have used a hook knife. Hook knives were needed at the dz twice this year - once in the birdman tangle, and then another when a bootie snagged on the Cesna step and the jumper was stuck hanging upside down. The hook knife saved the day both times. And as it turns out, it was the same jumper in both scenarios. I don't plan to use my Cypres, but I have one and spent the cash on it. I have a hook knife on my chest strap for the same reason (and I can reach it with either hand). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 22. Two DZs around Chicago now. The other two have closed in the recent past. Also, if the money was so great for Quincy, why did they try to push us away? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. If you stay in the sport you will come to the same conclusions. We all do eventually. You might be surprised what Gareth has done for skydiving over the years - there is a reason why he has that opinion. Think of it this way - as a kid you used to get mad at your parents for not thinking you knew what was best for yourself. Then you got older and wiser, and realized they knew what they were talking about and now you say the same thing to kids...maybe even your own. That's how this sport works. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  25. I noticed an odd smell about a week ago, but it didn't smell like oil. It doesn't help that it's winter and my nose is clogged 24/7 here and that I have one of those vent air fresheners. Normally I don't use JL, and like Stacy I tend to watch them but they had all of the windows to the bay blocked off with signs. And my work hours make it tough to get anything done during the week, so I took advantage of my Xmas holiday and went to the only place that was open. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
