Yup...absolutely...and that's what I hope they do if I ever need them to. And, as usual, I completely agree with you. Just like I don't use a seat belt and therefore don't feel the need to learn to drive well... I don't use a dytter or cypres and figure that I no longer need to learn to use my eyes or other senses. Funny thing...I DREAM skydiving - and not in the "whee...lets have fun!" way...I dream it in preparation for emergencies. I have had about every malfunction I can think of in my dreams.. one of them was that I had jumped...and looked down and didn't have an altimeter. I looked around and was completely alone, so nobody I could hook up with or watch deploy... I remember in my dream counting to 30 while watching the ground before pulling (and doing nothing but counting and staring at the ground/horizon)....estimating my altitude after that time and such... what's funny is that my backup devices (cypres, dytter), I actually FORGET that I have them once in the air. I'm always a little alarmed when my dytter goes off - because I forget about it! And when I had my hard pull reserve ride, it wasn't until that evening when someone mentioned my cypress that it even occured to me that if I HADN'T pulled at 2K (as I did) that it would have fired...just never occured to me. interesting, though, that I never forget to turn either one on at the beginning of the day. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

I have jumped without a dytter..but dont like to and won't if I can help it. You can also jump without an altimeter...many do! But I wouldn't. I'd rather ride the plane back down. Doesn't mean I'm dependant upon these things..it's just because I know I can screw up..I know I'm not perfect..and neither is anyone else in the sky with me. Every thing I can do to protect myself - I try to do. whether it's taking classes...or practicing...or wearing a helmet, altimeter, dytter, gloves, cypres... doesn't mean I depend on these things and therefore take chances I wouldn't otherwise - except for the change of simply jumping. Not to speak for him..but I wouldn't jump without a reserve even if it wasn't the law. I bet he feels the same way... Nope...I'd drive it to the shop, only because I wouldn't have much of a choice - the belts need to be fixed before I can drive it. But I would also bail out of an airplane without a cypres if the engine died and the pilot said, "Everyone out!" and I saw his feet fly out the door. The more apt comparison would be whether you would drive your car to the grocery store if the seatbelt was broken... I don't go anywhere without my seat belt fastened if I can possibly possibly help it. Edited to add: I don't drive differently because I have seat belts on - I don't drive faster or crazier than I would if they weren't on. I try and drive safely regardless. Same with flying..I don't fly crazier because I have a Cypres - I try and fly safely regardless. I just have enough years behind me to know that I'm flawed, I screw up, and want as many protection devices behind me as I can possibly have for the times I DO screw up (as I know I WILL screw up! Heck, I already have - not needed a cypres, but still, I've screwed up more than once!) -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Names of who/what? I was joking. Sexual conquests. I wasn't asking you specifically, this why I said "women". Hee hee.. I am a woman. but I can truthfully say that until my husband started jumping, I had never slept with a skydiver. And to this day - he's the only skydiver I have slept with. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings -

Validation of Tinkerbelle's D#272
elfanie replied to Tinkerbelle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
She's not joking...she really has that license number, and it was given to her by Bob Sinclair (I know him - he lives at my home DZ). But this post was, I believe, a light hearted "all in good fun" playing around sort of way. (in other words, it probably would have been better suited for talk back...) but yes..he gave her his license number..and kept his #57 C license number. (he was also dissatisfied with his C license number, as he was hoping for #69. I guess you'd have to know Bob to know what a character he is. ) This isn't meant as a pissing contest about numbers - and Bob wasn't pouting about his number. That was just his way of saying, "What difference does it make? I don't care...see...I'll even give it away." But bob is that sort of guy...that's why, I think, he's been able to jump for over 50 years. (yes, literally) doesn't take things too seriously. -

Heh. I'm 23 (will be 24 this month) I wear a 11 1/2 or 12 shoe I weigh 250lbs All striaght up truth, there's no reason to lie about any of that. I'm 34 wear a size 6 shoe weigh 140 pounds wealth: won't lie, just will say that it's nobody's business jump numbers: 84 sexual conquests: I've been with a total of 5 men including my husband. next? -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings -
*laugh* I'm not trying to! This is the result of not even knowing enough to be able to form an educated QUESTION. Thanks for trying to answer me, though. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

How much would it cost to lease a Grand Caravan for several months for a dropzone...just the plane, not the pilot... -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Ok...so I jumped the Sabre2 170 this weekend. SA-FLIPPIN'-WEEEEET! And that's just about all I have to say about that. I was very surprised at how different it felt...turns were much snappier (in a very good way!), I got good penetration even though the winds were a little higher (15mph)...landings were DREAMY ("Nice swoop, Steph!" "uhh...I wasn't trying to swoop, just 2-staging it..but thanks. ")...I loved having more control on the landing where if I started to flare a LITTLE too high it was ok, just hold it and slowly let myself down (or if you flare a *little* too late, just flare a little quicker and pop yourself back up)... Sweet canopy...and openings, how nice! Ya'll were right that it does "hunt" and the canopy swish-swish-swish hunts for heading on opening and I was very aware of body position. No line twists..but I could see how that could be a problem pretty easily. soft openings...and I do NOT have that whiplash feeling of soreness that I have had for the last couple of months jumping that Sabre. Now the only problem is...do I HAFTA send it back? Very nice canopy...sweet ride she gives. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Stuck near Eloy with nothing to do?

Hee hee... I was chatting with Bob this weekend...and told him I had 'met' you on the computer. ("Oh, I don't get into new Fad things like computers." he says with that cheshire grin of his) I told him what you'd said..he laughed and said that he did not sell the number to you...he GAVE it to you, and mentioned the ticket he gave you to prove that it was yours. -
feh...I'm the opposite. the bigger the canopy...the bigger my diamond needs to be!! -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Hee hee... * the more people that are watching you, the more likely you are to screw up your landing. (Odds increase if there are whuffos watching, and increase more if the landing is being video taped.) Screwed up landing is almost guarenteed if any of the people watching you are whuffos that have been too scared to come out and watch you jump and that you have FINALLY convinced to come watch you... * Beautiful weather during the week means cloudy and windy on the weekends. * People who say they'd like to try skydiving "someday"...rarely do. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

"It's seeping in through the vents.." ************************ "Atouk zug-zug Lana..." *********************** "hump or death, hump or death..hump death, hump death.." Big Boy Wants to Jump : HELP HIM JUMP

Yeah!! So we'll get Aubrey, Rico, and Brian (the three falling anvil's!) over to Coolidge...me, weighing 140 pounds, would love to jump with all three of ya'll! I have a mean arch, I tell ya - MEAN! (And if anyone gets a chance, Rodeo one of these big boys! Brian and I pulled out 190MPH just doing a rodeo jump. ) We'll just have to get our DZO to do one of his famous plane fumigations so we don't smell all of your fat sweaty selves. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings -
My dear sweet husband said I needed to respond to you by saying this... Let's just say I'm not in favor of laws that ban things based on how SCARY they look. (you and I agree, John....absolutely.) -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Luckily...I live in Arizona, where it is very legal to carry concealed. How do I know? *whistles innocently* Huh? Did you ask me something? -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

But not with a .22 depends on how lucky you get with that one shot... -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Why do you need so many guns? we don't NEED so many guns...we like them. The .22's are fun for plinking and small targets like rabbits and squirrel the 30-06 and the 270 and 30-30 are good for elk and deer the handguns are mostly for fun the .44 mag is good for bear hunting the 7mm mauser was built by my FIL and grandFIL and passed down to my husband We don't have them because we NEED them - we have enough money to go to a store for our meat. We have them because we WANT them... (that's like asking why we have so many televisions in the house...why do you need more than one? or so many telephones...or asking a collector why they have so many cars...) -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

My family owns several guns...only one of which is "mine"...it's a Browning 30-06. Why? Because we are a hunting family and enjoy our guns. (although the 30-06 isn't nearly as much fun to shoot as the little .22 pistol or the .22 rifle.) We also have a 7mm Mauser, lever action 30-30, 270 WSM, Kimber 1911 .45 ACP, Ruger single-action .44 mag... but those are more "family" guns. or my husband's guns than they are mine.. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

there are at least 3 DZs closer than california... Coolidge Eloy and Buckeye They are all around the Phoenix area... -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings -
Doesn't it also have to do with the actual canopy size as well as wingloading? A wingloading of 1.3 on a rectangular 230 is not the same as a wingloading of 1.3 on an eliptical 135....right? -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

If he has that much muscle....then if he got down to 200 pounds he might LOOK totally healthy, but I highly highly doubt he would actually BE healthy. You don't just lose muscle weight like that...doesn't work like that. and I'm worried about my 6'2" husband getting all the way down to 200. I'm not so sure that he will look as good if he does...more yet if he will be as healthy. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings
