You're right...there's a time and place for feeding a baby. time: Whenever the baby is hungry Place: Wherever you are at the time. Would you have felt differently if she was bottlefeeding? If so...WHY? Baby was hungry...she fed her baby...so flippin' what. I've nursed my babies everywhere and anywhere. I figure that my baby comes first...and if someone doesn't like it, they can look away. Discretion is a different discussion...and if you want to disagree with the MANNER in which she was feeding her baby (with both breasts exposed, not discreet) then that is a discussion to be had. But as for feeding a baby in a bank....feh. She should feed her baby anywhere she is when her baby gets hungry. (if she hadn't fed her baby, you'd be somewhere complaining about people having screaming babies and how annoying that is!) but now you're venturing into MY workplace territory... I'm a doula...childbirth educator...student midwife...lactational assistant... I do find it amusing that when I nursed my 14 month old at the dropzone two weeks ago...one of the jumpmasters (who did have the decency to look moderatly sheepish when talking about masturbating and 'playing with the tip' complete with manual visuals in front of me) noticed what I was doing and the reaction from him was absolutely hysterical. My husband was cracking up at him...eyes to the ceiling...stammering, "uh uh..we'll finish talking when you're, uh, done..." as he wanted off all but whistling. Why do guys (especially young guys) get so freaked out about moms feeding babies??? -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Almost Cutaway on Level 5
elfanie replied to bluewaterstream's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Feh... I had line twists after AFF (well, ASP, which is basically the same thing as AFF with a couple of tandems first) and didn't freak out. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to do static anymore... -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings -

Being able to pack your own chute is required for the class A still...yes. doesn't mean you have to be good at it, doesn't mean you have to continue to pack it. Means you have to be able to pack at least one parachute in your life without assistance. (and you don't even have to jump it. ) Me? I'm in the process of learning to flat pack, and can do 90% of it by myself now. (some of it I'm having trouble with the sheer strength required...it's a Nav 220 with ripcord and I don't have the strength to close the pack myself...working on figuring out how to do that and finding it very difficult.) -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

I did my training at Arizona Skydive in Coolidge..and it was great. I'm sure that I'm going to upset a lot of people with the following statement...but... I jump Coolidge, just 20 miles from Eloy...have never jumped Eloy...and, honestly, don't have any sort of desire to at this point. Nothing against Eloy, I've heard nothing but fantastic things about them!! It's just...I'm more a "small town" girl than a "city" girl. I like the smaller "family-style" attention we get at Coolidge. There is a place they/we've set up for my kids to play, I know most of the people down there now by now and they know me....and I like the small-town feel of it. I don't think bigger is better...or that smaller is better....anymore than I think living in a city is better/worse than living in the country or a small town. It's just different. And I'm a small town style girl (living in the city of Phoenix. heh.) I also did the "every weekend" thing, and found that very very useful. First off...after 2-3 jumps, I'm tired! My arms get bruised...my muscles are sore the next day...I'm just tired and don't think I"d enjoy doing 10 jumps a day at this point. Second off...having the weekday-long break gave me a chance to reflect and learn from my jumps in a way that I don't think I could have done otherwise. At least two different weekends I came back after thinking about my previous jumps and said, "Ah ha! I know what I was doing wrong!" and my next jump was significantly better...just because of the reflection time. Again...I'm not saying that my way will work better for anyone else! I'm just saying that it worked best for ME! I loved my small-town dropzone (Coolidge) and loved jumping 2-3 times each day on the weekends only. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

When I had my "unstable exit" for my AFF7....I got video of that as well. Got turned the wrong way into the relative wind which flipped me over onto my back into a dearched position. Like you...I ARCHED. As soon as I arched...FLIP back into belly-down. Here is the video... My graduation jump Now...that being said...I don't think that if someone were able to maintain a frozen/fixed position that they would maintain a frozen/fixed freefall. Lets say that the frozen position is one in which one shoulder and/or one leg is dipped down as if in a turn. Like the windmill or a pinwheel, the skydiver would turn...quickly falling into a spin. As the spin became stronger, their body (in the same 'frozen' position) would rotate onto their side somewhat..right? due to the centripital force of the spin. So a stable position becomes a dynamic one..one which responds one way to begin with (turning/spinning) and yet changes with the speed of the spin. that's just an example of what I can see as the position, although frozen, still becoming dynamic in the manner in which it falls. Of course...I'm still just a baby in the sport, so I fully expect someone to tell me that I'm way off base (although hopefully they will also explain to me WHY I'm full of it, so I can learn...) Also waiting for someone to tell me what cool pictures/video I have for such a newbie. heh. (give me a break...I haven't had the experience or time in the sport to get some of the awesomely cool pictures/video that some of the people here have earned!) I got 100.9 % Not sure how I feel about that....except that I think I felt a few more grey hairs plink out on top of my head. Elfanie -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings

Background: I'm a newbie, ASP graduate with 18 jumps on self-supervision. I've always had stable exits....except for my first solo exit which was a rear-diving exit. (kept legs too positive, caught wind, flipped me onto my back, immediately I flipped myself back to belly-down and continued with my jump. See the video of the jump here under "graduation jump video"... My Skydiving Site ) Anyways, of the jumps I did this past weekend I did two non-solo jumps...one was a "coach" type jump (with a friend of mine) to practice docking. On that exit, there was some sort of miscommunication, I did a poised side-exit where he was expecting me to do a backwards facing-him exit. he had my chest strap...so he ended up flipping me onto my back. I did the only thing I know to do...which is I arched. He let go of me, I flipped myself belly-down, and we did the jump. (see the video of that jump at the same page listed above, only this one is under "Jump #16"). Ok...so now I'm going to do a 3-way, first ever. Exit SUCKED. Plan was to get into a circle, accordian on me, circle, accordian on V, circle, accordian on R, circle, break off, track, pull. Get into position to exit...ready, set, exit... and we were all over the place. I'm holding onto V who's holding onto R who's holding onto me. Felt like we were potato chipping and started bouncing around a bit...I'm holding onto that grip for dear life. I felt R break off so I released V and got stable. IMMEDIATELY when we released, V dropped like a stone. I fall slowly so I spent the rest of the jump trying to dive-n-track to get down to their level and never did make it. I asked them what went wrong..V claimed it was his exit and he didn't turn enough into the relative wind....but it brought up a lot of questions in my mind. First, I have a lot more respect when looking at those 15-30-50 ways pictures! But the question that I have is...is ther a secret to the group exits? All I did was get into position, step back and ARCH. What do you do if you're in a group linked jump and you find yourself flipped over underneith other members or if you're unstable...how do you, while linked to others, regain stability? Is there a trick? Any hint/tips is very appreciated...I'm just so new and absorbing everything I can from the most experienced. After two not-terrific exits with others, I'd like to learn how to have good exits for future group jumps. it was suggested to me that I post this into a new thread since it was originally posted in reply to "graduated" (which most people aren't going to go back and re-read that thread) My husband and myself graduated our respective programs this past weekend...he from AFF and I from ASP. I have pictures of a few of my jumps up online....and although they photographs aren't really clear (since they are taken from a video), I have step by step pictures of my graduating jump...the good, the bad, and the ugly. heh. here is the link to my main skydiving page... My skydiving page and yes...in keeping with tradition, we know that we each owe the dropzone a case of beer. so, just to keep good karma...we bought them three cases - one samuel adams oktoberfest, one corona, and one flat tire. and for my jumpmaster who made an offhanded comment that he's a bourbon drinker....I bought him one Maker's Mark and one Woodford Reserve. That should settle up our karma points, right? heh. -------------------------------------------- Elfanie My Skydiving Page Fly Safe - Soft Landings
