I love Australia. I hate vegemite. In my younger days I think I cleaned it out of my kids' diapers. . On a whitewater raft trip, though, I was told about certain killer koalas that hang in trees and wait for you to drift by, then drop on your head, scratch your eyes out, and pull your ear lobes off. Smearing vegemite on your neck and behind your ears repels the killer koalas. I'm no fool. I immediately spread it all over me, much to the entertainment of the others in the raft. But I didn't get koala ambushed, either. I thought those things were always too cute to really trust. Koala Dundee They're called Dropbears and they are a seriously threat in Australia. Just follow local advice and you should be safe.

Thats $AU by the way....same price as slots to 10.

Hey willso i tried to reply to your email but 'something' wont let me, ill try again tommorow!

I can answer the gear one. Compare what you'd be spending on gear hire each jump and at how much you're prepared to spend on your first rig. Then look at how quickly it would pay for itself if you werent renting. For me, at $28 rent a jump, a $2800 rig would be paid off in 100 jumps, which isn't a lot. Easy.

Congratulations!! Even though i've never heard of a CAT8 before

Just go out and enjoy yourself!! You obviously REALLY want to do it or you wouldn't have worked so hard to book in tandems/static lines. Trust me, you'll love it, and then wonder why you ever posted that stuff! Great to see skydivings taking off in Singapore, its a beautiful place

Hey! We dont eat THAT much beetroot!! and vegemite is an acquired taste!

Awesome, another aussie one here. You've done the scariest AFF jumps, it's all fun from here on in! and dive exits are the best, it's just 'open door, jump out'

haha i feel your pain. But i have almost all my gear now..jumpsuit ($50us brandnew BevSuit), gath, goggles, gloves. Now i just need one of those parachute things ive heard so much about and thats looking like being in two weeks! Yay!!

Thanks guys. Like I said, i want to log a lot of jumps on a 170 (which will be awesome after the 270) and get very comfortable before i fork out for a new 150. My main problem in choosing a canopy is that i dont have access to demo rigs or canopy courses here. I was just really interested in the performance differences similar sized canopies could have due to their construction etc...
-
My main 'target' so far is to a 170, im at a small DZ and my canopy control has been recognised as good. Im just worried that at 176lb geared-up I'll get bored with a 170 easily. Then again, I will be dropping 100ft2 from this agonizing 270ft2 monster so a 170 should keep me enteratianed until ive got the cash to drop to a newer 150 after a few jumps...

Yeah thats what ive done, now i feel really stupid. Does make much more sense though.

Sorry if this has been asked before. Im looking at my first rig, and my loading on a sabre 150 is .85 which is very acceptable as far as i see it. However, talking to a CrEW dog at my DZ he was saying that 150's are the start of 'performance canopies' (compared to 170's anyway). How much of a difference does wingloading vs. canopy performace make? Could i get in trouble even if my loading is fine? I hope this makes sense....

A tiny bit offtopic, but for me today marks one year since my friend was killed in a hit and run while visiting my home town. It totally ripped through our group of friends, and long story short, his death inspired me to do things id only ever imagined...like skydiving. Now i cant imagine my life without it, so thanks Ant

Started when i was 19, which i still am now. Most jumpers at my dz have professional careers and a fair bit of money, where as im just working for cash right now before i start education so it does make it a little difficult (and different) for me. I manage though We had two friends both in their 60's do AFF1 a few weeks ago.

1. Whats your name? Brodie Kearon 2. How old are you? 19 3. Why did you decide to start jumping out of airplanes? A good mate got killed and i decided to do everything i'd ever dreamed of. and got stuck on skydiving hehe

Is it even legal for you to wear a frap where you're from? I know we have to use hard shelled helmets until we've got our C's. Ive got a gath, its ok but doesnt offer that much protection.

haha thats awesome

Erno worked at my DZ for a fair while doing tandems in south australia, now he's gone and everyone misses him hehe.
