  1. I can think of at least 3 that an AAD did save their life and one for sure that an rsl did. One of the AAD saves an rsl would have done the trick. I can also think of 3 fatalities that an AAD would have saved them but an rsl would not. Also 3 that an rsl may have saved but an AAD not. The largest number is by far the number of fatalities I can recall that either one would have done the trick.
  2. I didn't answer the poll. having recently ceased being a professional it is a question that is very much on my mind. If I don't set some sort of budget I know I will overspend, but even a modest budget is hard to swallow, having not spent anything to speak of for so long.
  3. Actually it's worse than that. Those export subsidies often result in retaliatory tariffs. The net effect is a transfer of wealth from you to a foreign government.
  4. I have worked at a 2200 msl dz for a while. We use a narrow body 182 with P. Ponk 0470 wing extensions and some sort of wing tip technology. We take 2 tandems to 15,000msl turning 0.5s or better on cool days and under 0.6s on hot days (>25C). As was mentioned above, the mods are as expensive than the plane.
  5. I would never blame the individual for taking advantage of the system (kind of reminds me of the argument about how Warren Buffet should just send the government money if he thinks taxes on the rich should rise). If your father refused the subsidy it would not change the system one bit.
  6. Of course there are also efficiencies foregone to recapture as well. As ShcShc11 pointed out, the decision to use corn over grass (or grain) is better approached without subsidies. Of course ridiculously subsidized water rates for livestock farmers should also be addressed.
  7. Do a few hand am jumps with you own gear to get your procedures down prior to taking it with a tandem. Remember to point the lens at the subject not yourself. Get used to a lot more grabbing of your arm than you have previously been comfortable with.
  8. I don't disagree, but it will cause a recession next year in both our countries.
  9. I that a prediction or a prescription TK? I must say that if it is a prescription I am surprised to hear it from you.
  10. Probably the best thing for the long run is for the country to steadfastly go over the cliff. This of course is contingent upon me not losing my job in the short run; ahh there's the rub. Edited to add: I voted for the "kick the can down the road" prediction.
  11. I saw a headline banner the other day to the effect "Shatner abandons bid to have Enterprise retired." Anyone know anything about this? I presume he wanted the name to be retired not the ship which of course is being retired with or without the input of a foreign actor. I really don't know why he would want the name retired. As a Star Trek fan I hope the US Navy commissions a new Enterprise very soon. The navy should always have an Enterprise until the the day the interstellar fleet has one.
  12. So does that mean there is an habitable zone on Mercury?
  13. Are the suburbs not generally within the MSA of these cities? If so such moves would not count as out-migration.
  14. Looks like they left it out. Go here: http://www.ipc-wcresults.org.uk/Mondial_2012/Accuracy+Style_Senior/_Senior_Results.html Does anyone know why positions 45 through 149 have results for round 3 but none for round 2?
  15. ........................................................................ Probably after they threw away all the orange nylon dummies that sewed for them! Hah! Hah! Ron Dionne (of Campbell River) deserves the credit for inventing that dummy pilot-chute. The bungies were just a little short for the vigorous throws of some of the sqaddies. Too bad as they were a great learning tool on the ground and a garbage saver in the air.
  16. Step 1- Close all the US bases. Step 2- Eliminate all military aid in the region (except Israel which has nothing to do with oil. Step 3- Turn your back and walk away. The US's policy in the area has revolved around keeping the oil flowing for over 60 years. They are a one trick pony and we are all pretty tired of the trick. The moment the oil is not needed they can fuck right off. They become important like Zimbabwe.
  17. I test jumped an Optimum 126 lat year and was very impressed. I was a bit dubious about getting such a small reserve but was downsizing to a 105 main and just couldn't be comfortable mixing that with my 150 reserve. The flight characteristics and flare of the Optimum were brilliant.
  18. 721 days 'till the midterms. Primaries start in about 14 months.
  19. With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain. -Lawrence Binyon 1914
  20. Yes he is. He is also right. The very word RINO is emblematic of why the GOP lost. Big Tent political parties tend to lose when they shrink the tent. Small doctrinaire parties such as the libertarians can influence policy, but they never gain power.
  21. It has been a while since I flew an accuracy canopy, but if I recall correctly a prolonged toggle spiral tends to stall the slow side of the canopy producing an inconsistent, uncomfortable spiral.
