  1. You mean like Neal Houston, TK Hayes, Liz Mann and all the other born Canadians who have abandoned their homeland for somewhere else? Should they all be stripped of their citizenship of convenience?
  2. Que? I jumped with Lyle in Arizona in January and jumped at his place about a month ago.
  3. I just saw a news story that showed the police beating up some clowns. That was ok, but then it got really good and they showed the cops beating up mimes! I mean,... how good is that?
  4. When I worked at a DZ that used static line we had an identical procedure.
  5. I am not sure why the author is so mystified,.. If the house is deadlocked the Senate shall choose from the top two vice-presidential candidates and that person shall be president.
  6. Umm,.. no. Sikhs are monotheistic.
  7. He went over there in 1988 when he was two years old. I don't think he was all that clear on the Taliban's stance towards the west. It can put you off all you want. He was born here, he has all the rights of citizenship, and there is no process available for us to deprive him of that. Wrong again. He received his education in Pakistan and Afghanistan. This is getting tiresome. He didn't leave to fight against the west; he left because his diapers needed changing and his mother was going to Pakistan. two year olds don't abandon anything. Because he has just spent five years in a jail cell and will play whatever cards he can to get out of there. I would too. As i said earlier, this guy is a big problem for us but we have to deal with that problem within the boundaries of what makes us a just nation. Abandoning the constitution is not an option.
  8. The other disadvantage to the system (as with the SOS) is that the ripcord must be extra long to ensure that the correct sequence is followed (the cutaway cables do their job before the ripcord). Two possible problems come from this: 1. The student feels the resistance from the cutaway cables and stops pulling, thinking the job is done, and doesn't complete the ripcord pull (this one is particular to the SOS). 2. A small student with short arms and a poorly adjusted rig may be able to get to full arms length without pulling the elongated ripcord. The fix is to emphasize that they go back into a big wide arch with the reserve handle in their hand, but it seams to me that you are creating one problem while fixing another.
  9. But of course you weren't always an experienced instructor; was the door closed between students when you were a raw rookie instructor (he asked rhetorically)?
  10. Ya, i was asking whether the door gets closed at all rather than who actually does the opening and closing.
  11. I don't think he will be convicted if sent to Canada. The coalition forces invaded a sovereign country and some of the people there resisted. Kadr was captured before the new civilian government was established, so he was definitely not breaking any Afghan law. The fact that we have determined that it was a "righteous war doesn't change a thing. The losers of a war are not criminals just by being on the losing side. While the act of being in a gun battle will usually land a youth in adult court, being indoctrinated into an army as a child and being attacked while in the presence of your father is a situation which will weigh heavily on the supreme court. I very much doubt they would allow him to be tried as an adult, and any sentence handed down (if any) would be already deemed to have been served.
  12. The fact is he is a Canadian, so what should we do with him? He has been in Gitmo for five years. Under Canadian law time spent in remand before conviction counts double- ten years served. If he is sentenced to twenty five years he is eligible for parole in umm,... now. This guy is a big problem. He spent his sixteenth through twentieth years locked up with some of the worst sociopaths on the planet. That doesn't mean we can throw out our constitution the way the Americans have. There is some recent evidence that we can help child warriors, but it is highly dependent on getting to them while they are still children (and we will have to wait a few years to see if they stay helped). This guy is past that stage. It's very convenient for us that we don't have to deal with him yet, but we will.
  13. Omar was shot and captured in the same battle that his father was killed in when he was 15. My point is that he was not some rebellious teenager, he was sent to training camps by his father and told that this was who he was. As to why we let this family with their terrorist history in in the first place, we didn't; we let in a single Egyptian man and a Palestinian girl. Neither one had a terrorist history. Omar Kadr was born here. Like most countries we have no process for stripping born citizens of their citizenship for any reason (although if you have ever voted Parti Quebecois there are those who favour just such a process). Most western Canadians see seperatist and their flags as a much larger threat to our country than Hezbollah (Hamas is not a terrorist organization BTW).
  14. Go to the CBC story cited above and read all the stories on the right hand side of the site. He grew up in Kabul in a compound with OBL and his family. When you look at it an Afghan resident child who is fighting an invader can hardly be classed as an illegal enemy combatant. Somehow I can't see him getting a job down at the mini-van plant and living happily ever after though.
  15. What about the countries with compulsory service? The child of a Canadian Father and a Swiss mother has obligations to Switzerland. Should meeting them cost them their birthright?
  16. Do you close the door between students or just leave it open during the go-arounds?

  18. Earl Weaver during the pre-game meeting with the opposing manager and home plate ump: "Well, are you gonna actually do your job tonight? Home plate ump Ron Lucciano: "Earl, your never gonna find out."
  19. I think it's great that Arni is doing it. It sends a message that not all republicans give a shit about this.
  20. According to the BSRs? Since July 18, 2004. Oddly enough, that date sticks out in my head every year. The vote was 15 for, 5 against, and 1 abstained. I think they recessed around 1:00. Blues, Dave Do the BSRs not also demand that the equipment be used according to the manufacturers specifications. UPT and Strong are quite adamant that no-one under eighteen is allowed to make a tandem.
