  1. Coming soon to a PBS affiliate near you: The Don Imus show.
  2. Limbaugh and Franken are both infidel western pigs, just ask any Iranian Mullah; there is no balance there.
  3. I agree with the maintenance pigs and fuel hogs part, but when you are a marginal turbine DZ for climate or size reasons those costs are dwarfed by the capital carrying costs. As for the more crashes and deaths part, I would like to see some stats if you have them. I can only recall the Utah crash off the top of my head, while I can think of three Porter crashes and two Twotter crashes without straining.
  4. King Airs really need to go the way of the Dodo. King Air 90s are less than half the price of any other turbine jumpship on the market. They are a great jumpship in their niche as long as the jumpers understand their limitations and the videots stay the fuck out of the tail.
  5. Our DZ dog Mindy did her first downplane today. She kept looking at the ground, looking at Dave, looking at the ground, looking at Dave, kinda like,.."Are you sure this is OK?"
  6. What if they have been properly trained to shit in the long grass like a civilized dog?
  7. I am an atheist working on a dropzone owned by Christians. We have some other Christians working on the DZ but I really don't see it flavouring the DZ much. We have one Christian pilot and one Muslim (heritage) pilot. I like to think I live in a tolerant community of friends.
  8. Karl Marx sponged off Engels' evil capitalist father for decades.
  9. I have noticed that the people in the front of the aircraft seam to think that they need to start moving toward the tail as soon as the room appears. Unless it is a fourteen way the people at the front should stay put until the first group leaves. To my way of thinking only the first group and the first person climbing out on the second group need to move during run in.
  10. Many of the hippies of the 1960's were indeed from very well to do families. Many of the anti-war leaders were very well educated and benefited from their draft exempt status to get that education and have since done quite well for themselves baded on thier family position. Many of the communists were from well to do families and suffered from guilt about their familial status.....but have gone on to embrace capitalism and consumerism. When you HAVE money you can afford these little detours in your life. Umm,.. ever heard of Fredrick Engles?
  11. Protein requires water, lots. You need 1/3 of a bottle of water just for breathing overnight. Add the protein shake and exercise and you need lots more. Is this a beginner pilates class or did you just jump right in? If you are returning to the gym after a long break you will do well to have a two to four week period devoted to nothing more than reminding your body how to exercise; really easy activities for longer and longer periods of time rather than really difficult or strenuous activities for a short time, and lots of stretching. I recently returned to my workouts after far too long without. I spent two weeks doing circuit training. This consisted of doing one set of a really light weight followed by one set on a different machine with light weight and no rest, followed by another, followed by,.. you get the idea. This got all my muscles moving and kept my heart rate up without really straining. Twenty minutes of stretching is my personal minimum per workout. It is very easy to try to emulate the really fit people you see in the gym, but you really need to taylor a workout to your abilities and needs. I think one of the main reasons people fail to stick to their exercise routine is because they aim too high too early and end up over-training. This is a good way to injure yourself or to end up not progressing because you are asking your body to use more energy than you are capable of processing and ending up with no energy available for the rest of your daily life. Baby Steps!
  12. OK Literal Man here. What is your max suspended weight under the 285?
  13. Umm,... What else have you tried?
  14. From the CSPA Chat list: I heard tonight at the 10h:00 PM TV news that Sergeant Christos Karigiannis was one of the 3 Canadian soldiers killed by a bomb in Afghanistan today Wednesday June the 20th. Chris is one of our fellow CSPA member. Chris has written an article "Once more into the zone" in October 2005 Canpara issue. The article was about how to get the best from a load organizer at Rantoul WFFC. I met Chris the summer of 2005 at Rantoul. A proud Canadian and a gentleman as well. If you look at the October 2005 Canpara issue you will see a picture of a dozen of Canadians attending the 2005 WFFC including Chris Karigiannis C3068, C2 and IA My sincere condolences to the Karigiannis family.
  15. It had nothing to do with the mayer sticking to his word. It had everything to do with it being none of his business. The American Carrier entered a Canadian harbour (federal jurisdiction) at the invitation of the Federal government and docked at the Federal wharf. The mayer was welcome to divest the city of it's entire civic nuclear arsenal, but he had no ability whatsoever to attempt to direct Canada's foreign policy; Kinda like the current mayer of TO.
  16. Under the Canadian constitution the city government and so the Mayer is a creature of the provincial legislature. Since both foreign affairs and defense are federal jurisdictions the mayer should not be doing anything about the war; he should be doing something about the sewers, schools, parks etc. About twenty years ago the Mayer of Vancouver declared the city to be a "nuclear weapons free area." An American carrier docked at the federal dock downtown about two weeks later. It really pisses me off when these assholes ignore their own duties and try to mind other pols' bailiwicks. Kinda like cops trying to be judges or judges trying to be legislators, it just doesn't work.
  17. We just outfitted with the SET 366 (not the 360). This is by far the best offering from Strong so far (damning with faint praise I know). The openings are very soft on brand new canopies; I am a bit concerned as to how much they will slow down over time. The handling characteristics are great and the toggle pressure is the lightest I have seen on a tandem canopy. The flare is very good with the stall very low in the range, and only available with heavy passengers (I weigh ~175) I would happily carry a heavier passenger than I would on an Icarus 360, although the Icarus I have jumped was quite a bit older.
  18. Too bad it is a delusional view of the past. At the 1990 Convention Jerry bird tickets were $2.00 and Tom Piras ones were $3.00 (in addition to your own lift ticket). i can't remember if video was also extra or not. You had to pay extra to jump with Guy Manos, Norm Kent didn't work for free, nor did most of the big names. There was then and still is today leaders in our sport who enjoy jumping with juniors, but not everyone can afford to devote a lot of jumps to unpaid coaching; I saw Steve Curtis walk up to a guy on the tram in Eloy this winter and ask him if he minded jumping with him. That was really cool, but most days Steve has to earn a living. I have never heard of Carol Clay but I am glad you had a good time jumping with her, but when you were a junior in the mid-nineties the scene was not significantly different than it is today.
  19. Here's the hot hint- There are more people outside the US than inside,... no really, I'm not bullshitting on this, it's true.
  20. Well, that might be OK if it's alright with skymama, but them Tex-Mex boys already got their rope out. i would hate to disappoint them.
  21. Can anyone elaorate on this? "flare the same no matter what the conditions. Do it the same every time." This does not make sense to me... If you have vertical instability you may have to do something different to deal with it, but the speed of the wind normally has exactly zero effect upon the flight characteristics of a canopy. The goal of a flare is to achieve a zero groundspeed just before touchdown; I think S. Miller's point is that a difference in horizontal wind means you need to adjust when you flare not how.
  22. So would 1m^3 still=1Kl=1^6g of water at standard conditions?
