    Unless you're looking for packing practice or have some reason to suspect that the main was incorrectly packed, it should be fine. In the U. S., the repack cycle for reserves is 4 months. A main should be good for at least that long. There are many that have been packed for years and open just fine. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome...     I'm sure there are plenty who frequent this forum who have never been a Tandem passenger. Being trained on S/L and jumping for a while before Tandems were invented, I never had the urge to go near one. Now, it's extremely rare to find someone who didn't take a Tandem ride before learning to skydive. I wonder how long it will be before there is no one left who never wore the passenger harness for that amusement park ride. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome...     I was trained on S/L before Tandems were invented. I think it would be very scarey to do one now.     Since you ask, in my opinion, stepping out of an airplane by yourself changes that status. You wouldn't get out of the back seat of an airliner and tell people you're a pilot, would you ? I don't mean to insult you, just to clarify things. "Whuffo" is not necessarily an insult. (Some of my friends are whuffos.) Good luck with your training if you continue with AFF.     That's why the last thing we need on here is whuffos (I'm sure the OP's 1 jump was a tandem) making comments about people's skydiving and stupidity. People who can't - or won't - do something really don't have any room to comment on the skill and preparation needed for something like that hangar swoop. Sure, it didn't work out and the guy creamed in. But having the skill and guts to try it deserves major respect (in my opinion). The dude who exits low and opens low - OK, he's just a dumb fuck.     If you've lost one steering line, and are landing that way, don't use the remaining steering line and the other rear riser to flare.
