Sounds like some of the packers I've met ... _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Haven't tried it, but just hearing your description of the procedure made Dr Pepper come out of my nose from laughing. I'm not sure if that will have any effect on my sinuses. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I keep a lot of skydiving photos around my desk, so it's no secret. As far as "craziness" remarks go, I remind them that we launch people into space on rockets here, and those people are considered sane. Of course, ever since the Crazy Astronaut Chick incident, that has been in doubt. Kevin Keenan Kennedy Space Ctr. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Hang in there. It's no more complicated than operating the "Shift" key on your computer. How hard could that be ?? ...Uh, on second thought, maybe you should bail. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

New students don't stick with it?

Your source for the answer to that question is to be found in the closest mirror rather than the internet. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -

I have a feeling that the answers to most of these questions would be "Uh...We never thought of that..." _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -
That's probably the wisest advice. As you get older (in age as well as time in the sport) you have a wider perspective, and are more able to see trends that you may feel are negative. Things always evolve, and there is no changing that. Rather than fighting the evolution and changing the unchangable, I think it makes more sense to find the good and enjoyable things in the sport, and pursue them. I had a great weekend jumping at a DZ where young, old, noobs and vets all seem to coexist and have an awesome time with this sport that we all love. (OK, there is the occassional stabbing, but who doesn't have that once in a while.) So I agree with the advice to go with the good and ignore the rest. The DVD is very good. Thanks to all who played a part in the production. That pull-out by Jack Berke on the first jump looked even more hair-raising when viewing it again. Kevin K. TSR '07 _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I've had a lot of success with prerscription goggles from Sport Rx. If you wear them instead of contacts, it simplifies things. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

As usual, when one of the choices is "me screwing up", that's the right answer. Thanks for the help. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I'd like to see the "Groundbusters" design, but all I get there is the Hang Glider and Headache designs. Maybe I'm screwing something up. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

That's the bad thing about computers - they do what you tell them, not necessarily what you want. Ya know what they say, "Garbage in, garbage out". Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I had about 300 jumps when I became a B-52 Tailgunner (Defensive Fire Control Operator) in the USAF in 1973. I spent a lot of time flying in those babies with a rig on my back, but never had occasion to leave in flight. Kevin K. Very nice, Hoop. As a student jumper in Texas in 1971, I heard all about the big guys" in Cali and Florida. Every year, the hotshots from my DZ would go to ZHills, and come back with barely-believable stories of the wonderment going on there. It wasn't until 1977 that I made it to a ZHills boogie. It was big, noisy, and fun as hell. I think you were the DZO then. It's a long, strange trip that we've been on - some longer than others - but it sure has been a blast. Thanks for writing about your view of it. I look forward to reading more. Kevin Keenan Es-Cee-Are 3022 _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Do you really think this is the case ? I do a lot of belly, and in Florida, it's pretty hard to find enough to make a load sometimes. I had assumed that the freeflyers were in the majority everywhere. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

At orbital speed of 17,500 mph, 8 sec. = 38.8 miles. That should be adequate seperation. Kevin K. Kennedy Space Ctr. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Which injury is worse? Broken bone or Broken joint?
kkeenan replied to autoset's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A bone, as such, really has only one requirement when it is working - that is to stay rigid and support other body structures. A joint, however, has to smoothly move through a range of motion, sometimes in several axes at the same time. Therefore, for a bone to heal and work properly, it only has to grow back together and be stiff enough to support loads. Sometimes, it is screwed together with plates or rods to achieve this. A joint repair, however, has to leave that joint in a condition such that smooth, pain-free, full-range motion can be achieved when healed. That is much more challenging, and sometimes impossible. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -
If you think you may need to buy a case, then you should probably go ahead and buy it. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I was at a DZ where a news crew was filming some RW dirt dives, etc. When asked by the interviewer about the "tubes" on the jumpsuits (grippers), one jumper told her that the static electricity built up in freefall could be dangerous, and these were devices to disperse the electric field. He had her going pretty well, until some of the jumpers couldn't keep a straight face any longer, and the TV lady knew something was up. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Is there any chance that the folks at Sebastian told you the same thing when asked about these canopy sizes (Too small), and now you are looking for an internet answer that is more in line with your wishes ? Find a big, docile, used canopy to learn on until you have the skills to jump the things you see your friends on. It's a plan that has worked for a lot of people so far. Being able to manipulate the huge forces of Nature, like gravity and aerodynamics for your pleasure and entertainment. And to be around the coolest, most energetic people doing the same thing. What's not to love about that. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Backflying with tandems (Was Rocky Point injury)
kkeenan replied to davepend's topic in Safety and Training
All any of us have to go on is what people present here. If Jarred tells someone to "Fuck off", when given some safety advice, we must assume that he means "Fuck off". All of us cannot go and jump with him, become his friends, and understand his inner motivations. All we can go by is what he presents here. If there is a difference between the "Real Jarred" and the "Internet Jarred", how are we supposed to know that ? I think that you are upset that your friend has drawn so much flak. That's understandable. It is also understandable that you wish to defend him. But Jarred has done nothing but shoot himself in the foot with the attitude that he presents on this forum. Is it his "real" attitude? Who knows. The attitude that Jarred presents here is one of a bratty know-it-all, who wants to flout the rules. Here's Jarred's profile: ------------- Interests: Turning low and stabbing out of it. Turning too high and then turning low to stab out of it. Rapid downsizing. Not listening to anyone. Pulling low. Hooking my RSL to the middle ring on my 3 ring. Freeflying in an old SST racer. Doing hybrids on tandems. Cutting people off on landing while doing really big turns. Pencil packing rigs. Refusing to give and recieve gear checks. And doing other really bad stuff. muhahaha :D -------- Of course people put goofy stuff in these. Maybe, as you say, the "Internet Jarred" is different from the "Real" one. But this is all the people on this forum have to go on. Skydiving has always been about free expression and sometimes thumbing one's nose at the "establishment". I started jumping at 19 a long time ago, and have seen and done a lot of it. A time-honored concept, however, has been, "Don't kill the innocents". This includes Tandem Pax. That's what the heart of this discussion has been about. No one cares (at least I don't) if Jarred downsizes, hooks, jumps with no AAD, etc. That's his personal choice affecting his personal safety. It's the safety of someone's Mom, who comes out to make one tandem jump that we're talking about. That person doesn't know the added risk of a video jumper under them in freefall, and has no say in it. The person responsible is the video guy, who has shown questionable judgement. When you go to a party and drop a turd in the punchbowl - even if you are a really nice person, that turd makes a pretty poor impression.
