This took a lot of pullup cords... _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Just sitting and wondering if all skydivers use pullup cords as much as I do. Does anyone else have anything in their home that has either been repaired with a pullup cord or engineered completely from pullup cords ? Please don't run toward the landing area

Sounds like you need to mellow out and not be so twitchy. If you react blindly to occurrances in freefall, you may make a wrong move. Try to think about your moves, rather than knee-jerk reacting. You'll find that taking that extra time will still allow you to react quick enough, and you won't be wasting time doing the wrong thing. Ha ! That's some unusual foresight for posters here. To respond to your original question - Yes, you do have a problem. You're concentrating on how good you're going to be and the hot gear you are going to jump rather than existing in the moment and dealing with your current gear and skill level. Try to maximize your skill with the gear that you have. The progression will take care of itself. I'm almost burned out on responding to this sort of thing. Every guy who posts with the, "Jump numbers are not important, I'm special, I have mad skilz" line always thinks he's the first to feel that way. It's almost a revolving door on this forum. Some get their shit together and progress safely, some end up burning in. This is a high-risk activity. People ask for advice from those who have learned enough to survive it, then tell them to Fuck Off when they care enough to give their honest opinion. Everyone knows the real answer. You're a grown-up and your life is your own to spend as you wish. My only request is that you ask your relatives, in the event of your death, to not bitch at folks on DZ.com who are discussing what a dumbass you were. I'm surprised that no one has told you yet, but there is a very special custom in which, after your 5th jump, you give each jumper at the DZ a $20 bill. Make sure you bring plenty. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Don't forget all the intangibles you get on real skydives; possible malfunctions, cutaways, canopy collisions, botched landings, etc. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

If anyone is interested, here is Tim Wagner's reply to the question: "I was wondering when someone was going to ask. No, not yet, I don't have a capture card here but I'm hoping to get something up before the end of the week. Stay tuned."

Is Omniskore posting any of the Nationals videos? I can't find it on their site, but may be missing something. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I had one like that years ago on a Sabre 1. I cut the knotted line with a hook knife and landed on rears. Replacing the lower steering line was cheaper than a reserve repack. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

The CF portion of the U. S. National Skydiving Championships starts today. Mant of the best CRWDogs in the country are in Arizona to wring out the best performances they can on some very demanding jumps. Please keep our friends in your thoughts for a safe meet. Here's to a good competition - may the best teams win. They will be competing without two familiar faces present - Joe Lambright and Buz Walton. Joe had been a CRW competitor longer than a lot of current CRWDogs have been jumping. He poured himself into it, and I know that his team will feel his loss on every jump. Buz didn't have as many competitions to his credit, but no one can deny that his presence at the Nationals was always felt and appreciated. These guys are always missed, but somehow the gathering of competitors at the Nationals makes them conspicuously absent. Kevin3 _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... I hear that their marketing dept. is looking at that. They're considering changing it to the "Crater". _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

How, and what is it about skydiving
kkeenan replied to justintime1983's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You are manipulating the elemental forces of the universe for your amusement. You are seeing sights and experiencing feelings that the vast majority of those walking the earth will never have. And you are doing it all with some of the most talented and high-spirited people in the world. What's not to like. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... If you're looking for a useful read, check out the search function of this website, by now, almost every possible question has been asked and answered, some of them many times. This is a great guide to research for newcomers. Welcome to the sport. Be safe and you can enjoy it for a long time. If not, well, you'll also read the consequences of inattention and inflated ego on this site. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Correct. Except for the friction between the cable and the edge of the housing, which should be very low, the cable doesn't know which direction the handle is being pulled. It pulls the pin the same. Certainly, if you pulled it 180 degrees in the wrong direction, back in the direction of the housing, that would be the most friction and the hardest pull. But the system is designed to function with a wide variety of pull directions. Straight down in line with the housing is the most efficient, but straight away from the body is the direction with the most muscle power available in the average body. There are a lot of variables. The regs state that the pull force should not exceed 22 lbs. I believe that is measured in a straight - inline with the housing - pull.
