You realize by the rules of Murphy you've now GUARENTEED that you'll lose another shoe... and it'll be the same one. My wife and I were doing a horny gorilla a couple weeks ago, when we broke her shoe got caught on either my shoe or one of my "slow-down" pockets on my jumpsuit (I say it got caught, she says otherwise ) and it pulled her shoe about halfway off. For the next few thousand feet she was slowly spinning on her back, with her feet over her head trying to put her shoe back on. She got it, too. Of course, I laughed at her the whole way.

Think they're going to sell just the watch separately? The abuse potential is tremendous... just imagine being on a load full of people with these on thier rigs... you get in the door, turn around, give them all a great big cheezy grin, and push the cutaway button on your watch as you jump out the door...

I assume your bev suit came the same way mine did- with plastic buckles to attach the coords to the suit, inside somewhere around the forearm/elbow area? I think he may be talking about those buckles. I found that the cords slipped in the buckles, so I finally sewed them to the right length.
-
Mine are adjusted so that they're extended when I straighten my arms out, but not when I'm in a regular boxman-type position. That way I have the go-slow ability if I need it but it's not all the time. Also, I replaced the nylon ribbons that came with the suit with ones that I sewed tube stoes to the end of, the idea being if they catch on something the tube stoe will break before my thumb does.

Might be just my perspective then, since I have if I remember right 47 jumps now. I just think it would have not been a big deal to add a bit more on canopy flight - perhaps not during the acutal AFF jumps, but mabye through the 10-20 jumps. I'm certainly not the most qualified person to say exactly when this stuff should be taught, I just think that your list is short enough and clear enough that it could be covered before 25 jumps - not to master everything obviously but to be taught it in a class format.
-
That looks pretty reasonable to me, I would have liked to have had that list as part of my AFF course.
-
What should be included in a BASIC canopy control course? I'm not talking about something that would involve all aspects of canopy flight - just something that would be reasonable as part of the A license progression. I think adding perhaps $100 to the overall cost of getting to your A is reasonable - but $300 is too much. Figure $100 for perhaps a three hour class on canopy flight, low turn avoidance, flat turns, etc. then mabye a couple coach jumps where you both have a radio in the air and they can actually fly with you a bit? Not sure about that part, how reasonable that is.

Yes, otherwise I'd only carry a DA. There's a lot of discussion (as I'm sure you're well aware) over condition 1 carry with 1911's, but my opinion is that they were designed with that in mind.

I don't care for Glocks that much personally. They're fine as far as construction, quality, etc - I just MUCH prefer the feel of a single-stack. I've never tried a 36 tho. Mabye I'll rent one sometime.

I paid a lot less than that from a place in Scottsdale. If you want their contact info let me know via PM. (So as to avoid breaking the advertising rule )

.45, Kimber. Mine looks like this.

230 main, 282 reserve for me. If I have to cut and then deal with the nerves, etc afterwards, I'd rather have it be easier to land, not harder.

Skydiving is one of the safest risky sports
bsoder replied to pkasdorf's topic in Safety and Training
Relative risk. bowling is SAFER than skydiving... but you could always drop the ball on your foot... -
Ok, what's an accuracy yoke?

I've noticed that at times as well. I do the pressurize thing every jump, once I've done my control check that's the next on the list. My ears have been sort of "crackly" (for lack of a better term) for a few days after I've jumped a couple times now. It seems to be happening less now.

Yeah, I see what you mean. The cable lengths would be an issue. A short MLW is definitely not an issue, I have several inches open below where the handles are now. I also know the rigger in question has a good history with the company, but regardless, the answer was no, so I have to look for other answers. We may end up shortening the harness back up a bit so I can pull it down a bit more with the leg straps. Other than that, I don't know if there's anything else I can do... Just live with it for a few years until I'm ready to get a new container. Kind of a bummer tho... that's the only thing that's not perfect. Otherwise it fits me great.
-
Oh, also, why would they not let us lower the chest strap? Looking at the harness, it appears that it should be pretty straightforward to do so.
-
I recently purchased a used container, a Vector 2, size V9. The harness was a C19, which is too short for me. I got measured by a RWS rep at a boogie recently, and came out with a torso measurement of 22". The rigger I've been working with added a couple inches to the part of the harness that attaches to the leg straps. The rig fits fine now, with the exception of the chest strap - it's too high, and the reserve/cutaway handles are really high as well. When I'm under canopy, the chest strap is all the way up right under my chin. I've tried tightening the leg straps as much as possible, not really helping much tho. The rigger called RWS today to ask if we could lower the chest strap and handles a couple inches and we were told no. Is there anything else I can do to help with this problem?

We had this discussion just recently. As long as you define "safe" as "safe enough" you're good.

The way I've heard John Kerry described is "The haughty French-looking senator from Massachusetts who served in Vietnam, and by the way did he mention he served in Vietnam?"
-
What fun would that be... now if you put a pick on one, and a buzzsaw on the other, you might have something... the First Battlebots Interplanetary Championship!

They're really just doing prepwork right now. The second rover reaches Mars next weekend, and they'll be shutting down the first one while getting the second one up and running. According to my brother it'll be another week or so before they really get going. Edited to say - not really "shutting down" but more... idling. :)

I'm 265 lbs, exit weight is around 290-295. I just bought a used container and reserve - vector 2, Raven IV. My main is smaller, it's a Silhouette 230, which I'm really enjoying flying, but I'm glad to know that if bad things happen and I'm going to have to land a reserve (with all the adrenaline, etc that entails) that my ride will be a bit slower and more gentle, and easier to deal with on the landing. I was told that I'd be fine with a smaller reserve, 218ish range, and I'm sure that's probably true other than the weight limit, but I'm happy to have that bigger reserve in my pack.

Don't they now?
