  1. From IPS: The Hazards of Watching Fox News A study shows that patrons of Rupert Murdoch's brand of journalism are most likely to be misinformed about key facts of the Iraq war. The more commercial television news you watch, the more wrong you are likely to be about key elements of the Iraq War and its aftermath, according to a major new study released in Washington this week. And the more you watch the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News channel, in particular, the more likely it is that your perceptions about the war are wrong, adds the report by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA). Based on several nationwide surveys it conducted with California-based Knowledge Networks since June, as well as the results of other polls, PIPA found that 48 percent of the public believe US troops found evidence of close pre-war links between Iraq and the al-Qaeda terrorist group; 22 percent thought troops found weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq; and 25 percent believed that world public opinion favored Washington's going to war with Iraq. All three are misperceptions. Ok. So what is the correct perception?
  2. Off topic but this frustrates me: Being critical of FOX, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, AirAmerica, or any other news organization's ability to convey the news is ok. But why is it always defined by the network? For instance, I like: Neil Cavuto (Fox) Megan Kelly (Fox) Morning Joe (msnbc) Situation Report (CNN) Want some contrast? I don't like Hannity (Fox) Huckabeee (Fox) Chris Mathews (msnbc) Rachel Maddow (msnbc) I think that the FOX news network does as good a job as any contending news organization at delivering the news. If you disagree than you disagree. I'm 5 beers in from the pitt/cinci game so forgive me if this makes no sense,,,
  3. Holder also said Khadr is facing a tribunal along with others at gitmo. And I think he was captured by US Soldiers in afghanistan. So I'm confused, to get a Tribunal you have to be caught by U.S. forces?
  4. You're right Remster. The assault only happens in real life.
  5. I was reading some articles on Curtis Lavelle Vance, the black man who broke into the newscasters home through the doggy door then beat her into 5 day coma that ended in death. Not really the point of the thread I was just thinking black man broke into white womans house and assulted her, you just won't ever see that on a home alarm advertisement.
  6. Here's one to chew on (random thought), What if one of those cheesy home alarm tv commercials showed a black man kicking down the door of a white womans house? I feel like that would stir the pot pretty quick...
  7. Here in Cleveland a white jogger was laid up hard after getting attacked by 6 black teens. There was no reason/motive for the attack and I don't recall it ever being called a hate crime by the media or officials. Here is a NYtimes article on it. A black 52yr old jogger getting attacked by 6 white men would be a Hate Crime. ..I'm just sayin
  8. I have an old handset Cellular One phone that zips up in a black case. It is powered by 12v and it's tx output is 3watts.. Can I retrofit something like this to get service? Mfctr is Motorola. And yes I have nothing better to do..
  9. He is, and I will always ignore shit like that. That's a nice suit he's wearing. I wonder if he paid retail for it. Because if he did then he is a contributor to the very system that he speaks against. My choice of a Black Commentator is Bill Cosby because he shoots fuckin straight.
  10. Not bragging. Fact is 10% (+/-) restaurants survive their first year. It would be great if a higher percentage existed but that's not condusive to competition. The consumers dictate that number. If you'd like a higher percentage of success in the food industry then pass a bill that requires consumers to spend money at a different restaurant every time they dine out, regardless of their preference... Right? Open up a shit restaurant with shitty service and a kitchen odor. Is it fair that you be allowed to fail?
  11. That's a huge statement. You need to back that up. Please give me an example of "Corporate Control"
  12. My point was that the private sector didn't go to the moon, but the government did. All I needed was one counterexample to effectively refute your assertion that "The private sector is always one step ahead of the government." Quote OK but the parts were all designed and manufactured by private sector companies. Do you think the government knows how to repave an onramp? No, they hire a private (or publicly traded) company to do that.
  13. That's a great example but you will never ever ever go to the moon. You do however (I'm guessing) drive a car, use a cell phone, eat processed food, skydive, buy clothes, and use soap. Now Kallend will probably challenge me on this and correlate some previous government program that magically allowed all of this to happen. I however, believe that free enterprise and competion in all facets of business creates a better and more affordable product advancing technology at the same time. I was 10yrs old in 1990, when my uncle called Ohio from California we had to line up at the phone and each got 1 minute talk. Communications was that expensive. I don't recall a government program blasting "Ordinary American's deserve to be able to talk to their loved ones without paying an arm and a leg!" That would be like "Ordinary American's don't deserve to have to pay $2500 for lasik!" Instead, the communication industry thrived, competed, succeeded, failed, and the result(s) is a very affordable cell phone/service. Guess what some of the poorest minorities in the most impovrished areas own? That's right! .... a CELL PHONE! Who had a car phone in the 80's? Don Johnson :) I bought my phone from apple, not the government. My car is a GM though..... Way to get off topic though uhh? haha I think Billvon is right, subsidies will end and taxes at the pump mauy increase beyond 40%. That's seriously scary. Add up what you paid for in gas in 2009, multiply by .4, then call DC ask them what they're doing with it!
  14. If you're saying that the private sector comes to the government for handouts that's a smack in the nuts to all of the folks who have tried and succeeded or failed at a small/mid sized business. 90% of new restaurants fail in the first year. Do any of them go the govt? Another thing people seem to forget, All big evil corporations started as small businesses.
  15. The moon? I dunno maybe the hundreds of wiring/electrical/propulsion/navigation/airframe/communication/material companies that competed for government contracts. That's my guess but I'm sure there's more to it than that. Your point is that the private sector couldn't go to the moon, right? Before I buy stock in a company i want to see a business plan. Clearly going to the moon is not profitable. I'm paraphrasing here: the private sector is like a family of four where the parents go out everyday and use their value in the workplace to create income for food/shelter/education the govt is like family of four where the parents go out and simply take someone elses money.
  16. But there are gobbs of money pouring into transit agencies already. I don't believe there is one line out there that actually sustains itself with fares.
  17. I agree and someone above mentioned how if gas goes through the roof, say $15/gallon, then the alternative would instantly be cheaper. The private sector is always one step ahead of the government.
  18. What should that cost? 30 cents? 5 dollars? 25 dollars? You Pick!!
  19. Yep, most of the GM cars are electric now, especially after Obama gave them all that bailout money!!!
  20. which ones? Cars that run on steam or solar panels? I'm exited to know! Tell me! Tell me!
  21. Actually it's not dramatic or radical. The world runs on oil, like it or not. If you have a viable alternative that is more cost effective bring it on!
  22. Good for them! they're saving money at the pump! As do I and keeping the freeway speed at +/-60 saves a lot on gas. Several airlines increased their travel time by mere minutes saving thousands on fuel by going a little slower. I think that's great!
  23. like in pittsburgh? Where his constituents ruined property? Or in DC when Republicans gathered and there wasn't a single piece of litter on the ground afterward.. Violent Opposition??? From CNN? MSNBC? NPR?? Tug of war my ASS he doesn't need a SINGLE FUCKING REPUBLICAN VOTE ?? Do you understand what that means ?? His admin can draw up whatever they dream and vote it into law without a single republican participating. :) Um thank you
