excellent -- hope to see you there (we dont' have anything scheduled until then)! Doug will be back up also!
  2. My living situation is a little convoluted right now... My home is in Troy, NY. But I'm on a temporary job assignment in New Smyrna Beach (florida). My four-way team trains at Cross Keys in NJ, so I'm all over the place. I do get out to DeLand every once in a while. I may try to get out there the 14 (since we're not training). hey, check out our web site http://www.teamjetstream.com... I was never to good a flicking bottle caps. I can bean someone in the back of the head with a peanut pretty good though.
  3. Nope, I'm suggesting for my money the crossfire is the way to go. I said to DEMO many canopies to find the one that best suits their particular needs... He wanted a comparison. I gave him one. I will be the first (OK second behind you obviously) to recommedend something he (or she) can handle in all situations. (By the way, Scott Miller has an excellent article in Sydiving dealing with this type of discussion - this month was part two.)
  4. I second that motion -- really cool shots of some head down flying with smoke trails! along with everything else.

We were trying to help Rob get his record number of loads in a day. Unfortunately there were a couple of weather delays so the plane only flew 37 loads Saturday... we did 18 of them. We weren't moving to quick the next morning, that's for sure. I really felt it tracking away at the end of each skydive.

you can count any freefall time in anything you want. keep track!
  7. I-4 or I-95??? it's easy from both roads... there is a bunk house, Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn are down the road a mile or two and offer skydiver rates. There are a couple of skydivers that also rent rooms out per night -- call the Dz if you are interested in that.

    Big Guy Question

I did not know that was going on... If I don't have a scheduled training camp that weekend, I'll make it out for sure...
  9. well, at least he got the Mirage part right

crappy weather??? not at Cross Keys - mighty hot last weekend, kind of breezy Sunday though :), although I (and my team) did manage 30 jumps in the two days.

    Big Guy Question

Skydive DeLand has taken some seriously big people on skydives. In fact, a guy that is like 7' 300 finished AFF and bought a custom Javelin with a really, really big main
  12. who cares about code??? I do, that's the stuff that says fire the cutter or not. It's the brains of the system. The CYPRES unit, IMO has the better code from what I've researched, good thing the USofA is a free country and we can choose to wear what we want.
  13. NOT! the Astra doesn't have the same computer code as the CYPRES. you need to cycle it on and off, it can get turned off in the plane. the are not the same
  14. worlds of difference, get teh CYPRES.
  15. And Marcus does one heck of a job servicing any jumper with any gear or gear related question/problem/issue. Those that know Marcus know he cares about his business and about the jumpers he comes in contact with (not necessarily in that order). my $.02.
  16. Be careful with that. Are they all built the same? Nope. Are they really all drop tested with a 254 pound weight? Maybe. Is that what TSO calls for? I'm not sure. Is that a 3 second delay? what is the speed at which the object is falling? What altitude is it tested at? (A loading at sea level will have very different consequences than jumping at a 5000 msl DZ!) I would ask PD, Precision, Tempo etc what they had to say about testing (I think there is something on the first two's website about reserve loading). I recommend more homework before deciding how heavy to load a canopy (main or reserve). But hey, it's your butt in the harness, you make the decision.

    hookturns?

A word of caution to all you newer jumpers out there... be very careful which type of cloud formation you are playing around with for a couple of reasons. 1st off you can't see the ground, so you have no clue as to where you are. 2nd, you can't see around you so there is no way to see if anyone is about to smack you while doing the same thing. 3rd if it is a building thunderhead you could get caught in an up-draft that will kill you. end of safety briefing. have fun.
  18. Depends on when you get here. this time of the year is the "slow" time for Fl Dz's (although DeLand will stay busy with teams so the plane will fly). October will be rockin in Eloy for the Nationals. Perris and Elsinore are pretty close in Ca. If you want to do some traveling, take the boogie tour. Most weekends you'll find one somewhere. Skydiving mag or Parachutist has a schedule, sit down with it and map out a route. (Hint, get to Quincy first week in August -- it's in the middle of the country, plan your trip around that). Start on the east coast and head west. It's your best bet to find packing jobs, too(although Cross Keys could use some good packers right now I think).
  19. nothing until you need it....
  20. Factory diver is the way to go if you don't need to flip your visor. That said, I haven't had any issues with my A3, nor have any of my team mates. One of the guys does have a Z1 and it flipped open in free fall the other day. I wouldn't buy one of them either due to their construction.
  21. yes, but the S&TA has the say in who can do what at their particular DZ (like waive some of the BSR's -- but only those that can be). the winds were honking, presumably a 50 jump wonder wouldn't be able to handle said winds, especially with the "outs" available to them. High winds, high trees, rotors off said trees. Those conditions require a fair bit of canopy skill.

    oh to nj!!!!!

There are a few DZ's (that I know of) right near Pittsburgh (one in Grove City, north of the TP, and one Beaver (yes, it's a town) - not USPA, and another, but I forget the town's name (but they have a four way team called the steel-airs), there is also one in Chambersburgh (middle of the state, but farther south off the TP). check out the USPA DZ directory for others.
  23. there's more to the story Chuck.... talk to Guy for the real deal. Marcus is an up and up guy, too (and does have excellent prices and service IMO).
  24. The hardest DZ to find for a newcomer has got to be The Ranch in NY. Even after hundreds of jumps there, I've found myself going, where IS the DZ!?!?!? small sliver of a runway (just wide enough for the otter's tires to fit - those pilots are excellent!), green all around. Best to find a landmark that points to the dz (there it's a break in the river and the stripped field) that you can refer to under canopy.
  25. sorry, offering -- ala Sabre 2. although I thought I heard somewhere they had something else coming out on it's heels, but I probably am wrong on that one.
