  1. Nice! You did a great job catching the jumps, people and vibe in Eloy for the last few months. Good times...let's do it again. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  2. Good luck Amy! I'm sure you guys are tearing it up out there. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  3. I'm looking for a cable that has the end that goes into my camera on both sides, ideally 4"-6" long. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  4. Are you talking about a bite switch or the cable I was trying to describe above (although probably not too well)? I originally got the bite switch from a Conceptus dealer, but now I'm looking for a particular cable to interface with the spliced switch/jack. From their website it looks like they just sell the switches and not these type of cables. They talk about splicing their switches, but don't offer any specialized cables for sale. I can't imagine too many uses for a 4"-6" cable with 2.5mm right-angle stereo plugs on both ends, but this does not sound like an insanely odd cable. I'd think someone out there would be making these for some application. I didn't do the original splicing for the jack and I'll stop being lazy and learn how to solder if I have to, but if these cables already exist I'd like to just buy a few. 5. I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to order cables online. Specifically, I'm looking for a stereo cable with 2.5mm right-angle male ends (on both sides). Ideally, this cable would be 4"-6" long. I know it's possible to make one, but me with a soldering iron in my hand is a scary thought and a risky proposition at best. Just learning the terms to describe the thing about doubled my knowledge on the subject The cable is going to be used to connect my Digital Rebel XT to a 2.5mm stereo jack installed on my helmet. The jack is wired to a bite switch. Any advice on where to order such a cable (and a few spares) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  6. No doubt. I got to take a couple rides with Melissa while she was out in Eloy. That girl rocks! Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  7. I'm not sure if they check this forum often, but I wanted to give a big thanks to Kevin Vetter and Joe Lambright. They spent last weekend putting on a training camp in Eloy and only asked for $10 from each student to help cover the cost of shipping enough Lightnings out for everyone. They did a great job instructing and made it a lot of fun. Up until the camp I thought flying your canopy into someone meant certain death...now I know it can actually be pretty fun By the end of the camp we had built a six stack, diamond and 5-way kite. We even pulled off a diamond to diamond. Thanks again guys! --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  8. Ditto to everything else already said. The only reason I'm replying is that I just got back from the DZ and I scared the SH@$ out of myself today. I have been jumping a 1.6WL for about 100 hundred jumps and have just over 800 jumps total. I have been through numerous canopy piloting classes and get daily input from the local coaches. Basically, I pushed it a little too far and had to rely on every bit of skill I've developed so far AND a good amount of luck to save my ass. Needless to say, I'll be taking it easy for a while. I haven't seen you fly your canopy, but I'd be willing to bet this could happen to you. Take your time, downsize when ready not when cost effective. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  9. I never had any trouble making out what was being said by my coach. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  10. Thanks Paul. I try. Sorry I can't make the big 1 triple 0 today, but have a great time and congrats. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  11. Yup. I did a block of coaching with Flight Club and it was great...the coaching and the air-to-air. For me, being able to hear short commands in conjunction with hand signals, got me sorted out much quicker. Trying to learn new skills in the air can definitely be overwhelming at first. There is little to no muscle memory and you need to focus on multiple things. Is it my hips, legs and/or arms that are doing something they shouldn't be? A quick 'hips forward' caught my attention and was processed a lot quicker than the hand signal. Plus, it is just pretty cool to hear someone in the air. Apart from coaching while in freefall, the system was useful under canopy too. Playing around with CRW-like stuff and setting up different landing patterns together was great. YMMV, but I am a big fan of air-to-air in the hands of a capable coach. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  12. Or once you get a little more experience...a sunset tracking dive. Big or small these can be so much fun. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  13. We have some pretty kick ass girls out in Eloy. Amy Chmelecki and Yoko come to mind as great flyers, coaches and people. And my girlfriend Margy of course. She's just getting comfortable on her head, but she rules in my book Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  14. Here a two from some of my recent coach jumps. A big thanks to Steve Curtis and Flight Club. I still suck...but a little bit less
  15. Yes I am...Margy is one cool girl! Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  16. The coaches out here in Eloy (Flight Club and AZTC) are playing with different types of systems. I can't comment on Rare Dynamic's system in particular, but having air-to-air communication during my coach jumps has definitely helped me pick things up faster. I'm really interested in seeing what type of system ends up becoming popular. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  17. Hey Dominic, good to hear from ya. Margy was going to compete, but ended up having to work the shop. She seems pretty serious about getting out there next year though. I bet she'll kick some ass. We got to make some jumps on Sunday and she was flyin' around on her little head. Great stuff! Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  18. Having recently trasitioned from a Stiletto to a XF2 I agree with everything that has been said here (lighter riser pressure, great openings, etc...). Another thing to point out is recovery arc. Expect it to be longer. Even with this in mind as I worked up to bigger turns, I still found this catching me off guard a couple times. My Stiletto (1.3 WL) planed out real quick with little or no input. Not the case with my XF2. Granted, I have been jumping mostly at a higher wing loading, but I started with a XF2 similarly loaded. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  19. I was looking for Icarus' NZ site and did a search on google for 'icarus canopies'. The description for the site came up as... NZ Aerosports, Icarus canopies, JVX, GLX, GLS, Crossfire 2, Crossifre 3, Icarus Tandem, VX Extreme, Icarue Extreme, daedalus project, swoop, Team Extreme, ... A lot of cool stuff seams to be going on over there. As a newly converted fan of the Crossfire 2 (mine should be shipped any day now), I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about a Crossfire 3 in the works or is this too far off yet. Thanks. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  20. Jason tore it up for sure. Good job man. Hopefully we'll see you down this way for the Rob Harris boogie. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  21. Thank YOU Amy!!! I had a great time and finally got a small taste of the competition jitters. You did a great job organizing especially given the nasty weahter and other circumstances. This sort of event gives someone like me (a relatively unexperienced freeflyer who wants to put together a team someday in the distant future) a chance to get their feet wet. Thanks again and you can bet I'll be there next year...and not just because Eloy is my home DZ You rock! --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  22. I am finally getting a little more comfortable on my head, but I have the same issue. At 200 lbs I fall pretty fast HD. The coach I've been working with suggested getting wider and moving my arms slightly forward. For the body position I usually found myself in, this works by giving my legs and arms cleaner air and more drag. It's also easier to take docks then having both arms maxed out to the sides. --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  23. I still drive forward quite a bit about 10% of the time so take this with a grain of salt. I was having the exact same issue and after some advice from one of the local gurus I just tried to slow things down a bit. My transition was (still is sometimes) rushed a bit and it causes me to lean forward in the process. After relaxing and slowing it down I was able to see some better results. You have near twice the jumps I do and I am sure you're relaxed but maybe your rushing this particular transition. Maybe make a few jumps trying to cartwheel sit to sit REAL slow. Helped me a lot. Good luck. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  24. Not only am I in all out war with my foot now, but everyone in the library thinks I'm insane. There is no way I can even think about studying anymore. Thanks a lot --Keith Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
  25. Bastard Do you know how hard it was to concentrate in class back in AZ knowing you guys were still jumping! On the plus side, it was nice to strip off three layers and get back into shorts and a t-shirt. Arizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
