people who attack others because they think their god thinks they should are the hardest to stop and the most dangerous. i hope that they can work this crap out but the reality of it is that because it only takes a few to ruin it, it probably will never be peaceful between the two. Interesting Article re: Muslims, Terrorism & American Morality
tcnelson replied to DrunkMonkey's topic in Speakers Corner
excellent civics point. relatively off topic seeing as we're debating our involvement in foreign wars but, very very true. i believe that we are doing the correct thing now regardless of what happens in the future. if we have to take military action in the future as a direct result of what we are doing now, then so be it. like i said, i'm sure that there will be plenty of unreasonable people in the future that will be a problem for america. saddam was our puppet huh? well, he sure wasn't being a good puppet when america said get out of kuwait or we'll put you out. i think that it's a mistake to use revolutionaries to do our dirty work and i hope that america learns its lesson in this regard. i'm not privvy to the intricate dealings between the american govt and other nations and i'll bet ken pollack isn't either. i think that the main reason that america did not preemptively strike russia is because they had already become a nearly equal force by the time the cold war was escalating. also, russian leaders were able to be reasoned with. it was a "my gun is bigger than your gun" war. the leader of iraq was willing to harm americans no matter how we tried to reason with him (international community included). those are two different situations and they were dealt with differently with the appropriate level of force. i hope we as a country do choose wisely. if we choose to attempt to talk and reason logically with people who don't care what we say because they only want our blood then, they will most certainly have it. Interesting Article re: Muslims, Terrorism & American Morality

i skimmed through it and will read it in its entirety later but, yeah, that about sums it up. actions and behaviors of those who seek to hurt america over an extended period of time speak to the justification of what this country is doing. i don't like war and i wish we could avoid it but, bottom line, it would be illogical to try to reason with unreasonable people. did i do all that? sorry; i get a little crazy sometimes...you are referring to what america has done to piss people off; i was referring to your comment that i gave justification to attackers... i agree, but thinking that a country is lead by a scumbag is not the same thing as that country having motive and opportunity. i disagree. starting wars to protect americans is part of the executive branch's job description. our kids will probably have to fight their own wars against a whole new generation of unreasonable people. ?? egotistical lunatic who hates america/americans + resources to kill people + behavioral pattern of aggression = imminent threat, in my opinion. some have already attacked bill. i didn't give any radicals justification to attack us, the ones who wish to do us harm have justified to themselves already why we are the "infadels" long before we invaded iraq. with their reasoning, our kids wouldn't grow up for any reason so, defending them is all the more important. we attacked him because we believed that he was crazy enough and had the capability to do americans harm, period. liberation was a good side effect. i disagree, i think that saddam's iraq was an imminent threat. he had no problem trying to usurp kuwait or killing kurds and he hates us worse than kuwaites and kurds put together. yes, if north korea thought that the us was going to do harm to it without provocation, then yes, of course. you see, america believed that saddam was mad (jong-il has proved himself a looney toon as well) enough to attack it or it's allies, or to help those who would, for no more reason than the fact that they hate america. i would throw the first jab or shoot the first gunshot if i thought that someone was imminently close to doing the same to me. that's all the justification a country needs to protect itself. america's governing body, to include intelligence agencies, perceived a threat at the time (monday morning qb all you want) and they chose to be proactive. all of the sanctions that iraq ignored over a decade period of time (no fly zones, shooting at american planes, etc.) were also a good reason to remove sadam imo. all in all, i believe that america was totally justified in its actions based on pure political reasons let alone the humanitarian ones. i know some friends that have used it successfully and some that haven't. i think the biggest piece of the puzzle is ones mind set toward quitting. i quit cold turkey after i thought i was gonna hack up a lung one night...this was after several attempts with the patch, none of which worked because i really didn't want to quit. sid is absolutely correct...as soon as you ultimately decide to be a non-smoker, you will be. hang in there, i quit over 2 years ago after smoking for a decade and, as we all know, it's worth it.

hope amongst the Iraqi people courtesy of americans who understand the value of integrity, honesty, strength, freedom, and the duty to pass it on. if you disagree with the images in this video and my assessment in the above sentence, you are a freeloader on democracy and/or a weakling of the mind...period.
