Well, I get it now. I thought the whole “killing kittens” was some kind of perverted little joke. I haven’t actually killed any kittens since I was a little kid (pre masturbation I guess). There’s a lot I could say in response to this critique of my home state. I have traveled throughout the country, buy have only lived in Kansas. I do agree with Neil on at least one point, we Kansans would be just as happy (if not more) to see him leave as he apparently would be to leave! As far as Kansas being nuked, Neils home at the air base, and Boeing plant are the prime target in Kansas. I guess if it were hit, Neil would be one of the first to “leave us”! I guess you can always find a silver lining if you look for it. And BTW, I love my little 182, she’s made well in excess of 12,000 trips to altitude over the years, and is still one SWEEEEEET little jump plane! They can increase the price of their jumpticket to whatever they want, but they are out of line in forcing every jumper to make a donation on every jump. Even if it was tax deductible. The appropriate way to ask for a charitable contribution is to encourage people to donate voluntarily. Not enforce it. I would be very agitated if someone forced me to do something like this. Kris. I've done many all women events. The first thing you notice is that the planes don't get that ugly farty smell in them I know! It's amazing that women never fart! It has a totally different dynamic than an all guys crowd, or I would think an all chick group as well, as I’ve never been part of an all girl get together! Actually I totally agree with you regarding the “forced contribution”. You should just think of it as another case of “those who know what’s best for us must rise up and save us form ourselves” Rush, Witch Hunt. It’s a price hike whatever you call it. In my opinion your DZ don’t really give a poop what the licensed skydivers want or think. Sounds like an “if you don’t like it, go to Kansas” attitude to me. There obviously in business to make money, and the money’s in the tandem business (skydive Las Vegas). I do think that if there was a will to find it, a common ground could be found. My theory is to try to charge my friends at the “break even point”, and to make my money form the student traffic. There are times when students and tandems take priority. I could buy a second airplane, and push up prices to cover the cost, but as I said it’s a compromise. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, stop by! Our “little one Cessna dz”, is like a family (somewhat dysfunctional at times), and you’ll be welcomed right in! I agree do whatever makes you happy. This is America; you should have the right to do whatever you like as long as it doesn’t interfere with or affect anyone else. The only question I have is when you screw yourself into the ground (and I’m sure it’ll happen) does killing yourself or critically injuring yourself qualify as “not affecting others”? I thought of a solution that seems to have been missed. Why not just find a place to run a DZ (maybe next door to Mile High), take out a nice big loan, buy an airplane and some gear, and go into business. You will then be able to charge as much or little as you like! Sounds like if Mile High does over 100 tandems on a Saturday, you should be able to undercut them, take some of that “gravy” business, and make a nice little livin’. What da ya think? I’m DZO at Air Capital Drop Zone in Wichita Ks. We do about 200 tandems a year out of a C182, and have a positive cash flow (nowhere near enough to quit my day job). Out standard tude is 11k @$16, although that may soon increase. The only charities I contribute to are government at all levels (Bill Clinton informed me that my taxes were actually contributions), although I do donate several certificates for tandems throughout the year (it’s just my greedy little underhanded way to get cheep exposure!). I was circumcised shortly after birth, I now have two sons (2 months and 2 years) nether of them has had his genitalia mutilated. I’m sure you get the tone of my opinion form my choice of words here. I think it’s quite ironic that the same people who will argue the virtues of breast feeding with “it’s the natural why” then argue to have a boys foreskin cut and ripped form the glands (don’t sound very natural to me!). As far as the cleanliness issue; man has survived on this planet for millennia and until quite recently have not found the need to cut off a perfectly healthy part of his anatomy in the quest for cleanliness. The female genitalia can be quite the harbor for all kinds of disease and nastiness (ask your gynecologist for a few stories regarding rank pussy, I’m sure he/she’ll have a few), but I don’t hear an outcry for cutting parts out of the female anatomy to clean up things there. The “cancer” issue is most often brought up, and I’m sure that maintaining an intact foreskin does increase the incidence of cancer, what you don’t hear is that even if it does double your chances form 1 in a million to 2 in a million, is it worth cutting every boys penis? Skydiving greatly increases our chanced of dying form “internal injuries resulting from impact”, should we all stay on the ground? The one thing that is guaranteed is that it will decrease sensitivity for the male. This in my opinion is one reason for men wanting to “stick it elsewhere”. It seems that the female population is the one with the loudest pro circumcision voice. It’s extremely ironic to me that by pushing for male circumcision they are at the same time subjecting their little girls to some circumcised guy wanting more stimulation and therefore pressuring her to go take up her little butt! It’s a funny, funny thing! If we removed everyone’s gall bladder and appendix at birth we could eliminate the associated problems with these useless organs. There seems to be quite a few Eclipse rigs for sale, as some DZs are getting away form Eclipse. One of the Florida DZs, I think Spaceland has tried to get rid of a few Eclipse Tandem Rigs. You should understand that there are “support issues” with Eclipse; with that in mind you should not pay a premium! I own two Eclipse rigs, my little Kansas DZ does a couple hundred Tandems a year, and I plan to jump em for a long time to come! Love them Icarus Mains!!!
