  1. Hi apoil, If you are going to take on spell checking on this site, you are in for a lot of work. I know I do my share, of poor spelling/typing that is. Jerry
  2. And would not want to hang around with people that did. Yea, sure. Jerry
  3. Hi Jeff, I defer to your observation. Everytime that I saw him (maybe only 3-4 times) after the crash he was in a wheelchair. It always made me cringe to see him. He tried to make the best of it but you could tell it was taking a toll on him. Jerry
  4. Hi Harry, About a week after the heist, I got a call from Personnel (I worked for a US agency) asking me to come over. Once there I was directed to a room where this guy was sitting. He got up, closed the door and introduced himself as a FBI agent. He then proceeded to grill me on where I was, what I knew, did I have any idea on who it might be, etc, etc. Once he decided that it wasn't me we had a great conversation; he was actually quite friendly. The one thing I remember him saying was that they (the FBI) did not have a clue as to who DB was. That was one interesting hour of my life, Jerry
  5. Hi steve1, The Boise club pooled their money and bought a ParaPlane in '68, a blue & white one. I jumped it at Issaquah in the Spring of '68; my first square jump. Damn, that thing was fast. I got it into the Issaquah peas but stalled just a little high and ended up on my butt/back. I think it was either later that year or the next year that the club was doing a demo into a Boise State College football game. Wally was determined to land it on the 50-yd line. He hooked it in and smashed himself up; probably more than just his back. He spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Jerry
  6. Sparky, That is not you; quit trying to fool people. You know you only ever jump in an orange jumpsuit. Jerry
  7. Hi FrogNog, So, would that be two canopies attached to the same harness ring? Interested people want you to show us more. Jerry
  8. Jeff, I'm with you on this; not as Mick & Sparky think. Now we'll have to find one (any out there?) to 'know.' Jerry PS) Terry, you got one around?
  9. A couple of options: Busch & Associates, Inc. Brookwood Roll Goods. Just Google them and you should have them. Jerry
  10. Sparky & Mick, I'm not a canopy designer; just a user. If I remember correctly the Navy 26 ft conical had a fabric cap over the upper hem, this therefore means it had no vent. Anyone remember those canopies? Maybe I'm wrong. Jerry
  11. Sparkles, Fess up; you are the one guy who 'calls'em like he sees'em.' Orrrrrr, I would have never guessed that you might actually be kidding. Jerry
  12. Hi Stevehend15, I have read your posts and the replies. I tend to be rather conservative when it comes to all that I have left (the reserve parachute). I strongly recommend a repack. It takes all of your worry away. Jerry
  13. Hi steve1, As I mentioned, I converted a Mk I to a Comp PC and then back to a Mk I again (didn't like the Comp). If I remember correctly on a Mk I there are three small steering slots (maybe only two) and one large steering slot on each side. I think the Comp PC has one more long steering slot. I would recommend that you try to get a picture of a Mk I before you start changing things. Good luck, Jerry
  14. With all the crap you two have been giving me, I think the first drink will be on your (you & Mick's) dime. Jerry
  15. OK Guys, There is nothing funny about that. It's due mostly to luck, not my life style. OBTW Mick, that just cost you the offer of a free drink whenever we meet up. So there. Jerry
  16. Hi Deb, I got an email from Charlie Markin recently and he said that Jack still shows up now and then. Of course, with Al gone, he really does not have anyone to BS with. Often, when I would get to Seattle on business I would stop out at Snohomish and BS with Al, and Jack would usually be there. Jerry PS) We ain't kids anymore, Deb.
  17. Hi Mark, Very interesting. About 10 + years ago, while in LA on business, I stopped off at FXC. They had just tested the prototype ASTRA by cutting a ripcord cable with it. Guess those little charges have some power. Jerry
  18. Sparky, I could not open your attachment. But for those who want to know, the Speed Link is item # H361 in the Para-Gear catalog. However, it is not a very good picture. As I recall, the problem with the Speed Link was not with the removable end (except that small screw kept getting boogered-up) but with forging cracks down in the inside of the 'U', the other end of the link. This would result in catastrophic failure. Jerry
  19. Well put, Mick. This should be required reading for anyone who thinks they have a better mousetrap. And sometimes they do. Since Sparky has forfeited his Grey Goose, I'll buy you whatever when we do meet up. Jerry
  20. I have Brydon's signature in my logbook as D-12. Also, it was Jim Arender who was in Times Square, smoking a Camel, not Brydon. Arender was the first American world champ, 1960 in Style & 1962 Overall. Jerry
  21. Hi Greg, ***Things are more like they are now than they've ever been BEFORE.*** I fixed it for you. Now, do you know who that quote belongs to. Yup, Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower. I understand he was well known for getting his words all turned around. It is one of my all-time favorite quotes. Jerry
  22. Hi crazydiver, Interestingly, just two days ago I was visiting a rigger-friend and he had a reserve laying there with fabric bumpers (made of T-12 I recall and tacked to the link). He asked what I thought and I said that I would not pack it; they were not supplied by either the canopy mfr or the h/c mfr. Now if someone had gotten a FAA field approval, I'm OK with that. Just my worthless $0.02. Jerry
  23. Hi casper, If I remember correctly, the EOS was the first rig to have the 'assistor pockets' on the bridle; then Talon copied the idea. I have no idea how well they worked; I've never seen a deployment of the system. Since the Catapult attaches directly to the bridle (no additional bridle of its own) I do not see any downside to it (well, maybe a slight additional bulk). Just my worthless $0.02. Jerry
