  1. About 15 years ago Ted Strong told me that when they were developing the Dual Hawk Tandem System that the first few jumps were made with a 26 ft Lo-Po in the reserve container. Anyone want to land two people under one of those? Jerry
  2. Hi Terry, I don't know about your part of the world back in the '60's but I do know that a lot of mil surplus rigs went through Portland Dye Works without any type of rigger involved. It was 'the thing' to do back in the early-mid '60's. Rules, what rules?????? Jerry
  3. Hi dragon2, It is not the USPA. It is the FAA. USPA may make lots of recommendations to the feds but they (the FAA) make those rules. Jerry
  4. Anyone notice that she opened up a Sage Green back pack and closed up a Red piggyback rig. Or were you all watching something else? Jerry PS) Raquel and I are the same age; I think our birthdays are in the same month.
  5. Hi Zig, Derek told me in Reno that all future Jav's would come with Skyhook or with RSL similar to Skyhook. In other words, using the curved pin on a lanyard and the 'eye' on a cable. Now, will that actually be the case; I don't know. Stay tuned, film at 11:00. Jerry
  6. Hi Slot, Here you go: In Poynter's original Parachute Manual at 9.5.10 is Assemby And Packing Instructions, All Pioneer rectangular and reserve assemblies, flat or curved. You might also contact Michael Owens (MOJOSPARKY on here) as he has a Super Pro that he is also looking for instructions on. A lot of the packing variations depend upon the canopy being used in the container. Jerry
  7. Hey Howard, Is this going to be one of those: Where are they now? things. Jerry
  8. Hi Shayne, Send me a PM and I'll try to put you onto an experienced rigger/jumper in your part of the world who, I am very sure, will act as a middle-man for you. This what bothers me; drop me a line if you want, Jerry
  9. Hi Skratch, Nope, we have never jumped together. I have only seen you one time in my life, at the Old Farts (ParaPioneers to be politically correct) Getogether in Denver a few years back. These days I get up in the morning, check the obit column to see if I am there; if not, I go on with my day. Jerry
  10. Hi Usetawuz, J. Scott was an instructor in HALO when he was in the Army. In one test program he worked on he was on the ground (he had a rig on) and he stood between two poles that held a lanyard between them that was then attached to him. Along came a C-130 or so with a grappling type of hook and snagged the lanyard pulling him up into the air. Then they reeled him into the aircraft. As he told me the story back in '66 he said that when he was being towed he could control his body just like in freefall. Now you have the rest of the story, Jerry
  11. Hi PW, I do not think so. Many lifetimes ago I was in a plane crash and the guy in back, w/o a seatbelt, flew forward and slammed into the back of my head, knocking me out (along with doing some other damage to me). I never felt a thing. After that experience I have concluded that 'going in' does not hurt. Now I may be wrong and I am not going to have a go at it to find out. Just my thoughts, Jerry
  12. Hi John, I believe that jeannie went in at Elsinore. I was talking with her there (Elsinore) about two weeks before she died. My recollection is that she had a total (pin would not come out) and go herself too low. On the other hand, a old-timer here (started in the early '60's) Jim Wright went in trying to find the handle of a throw-out (Jim had over 3,000 jumps). Chasing either type of handle can be very fatal. I have just one experience with this type of thing. Jerry
  13. Hi RTB, Try Fablok Mills, Inc. www.fablokmills.com or 908-464-1950. They have a variety of sizes in both nylon & polyester. Jerry
  14. Hi Skratch, You are taking me back into some very fuzzy memory areas. As I recall, Bob Sinclair & Jim Hall had a commercial parachute business; "Parachuting Something' or other. I 'think' that it was just a 2-man business but they hired others (Kiesow & Burt) when they needed more people. I 'think' (again ) that Jim Hall's wife & kids were killed in a traffic accident ( I 'recall' something about a station-wagon, him driving and their getting t-boned at an intersection) and this took him out of the business. Not an injury thing, just a traumatic event. Anyway, all of this is a little fuzzy; do you remember things as being like this? Jerry
  15. Yup, the 'good (?)' old days. In '67 or so I was on a 4-way load from 12,5 and no one touched anyone for the entire jump. Jerry
  16. Hi pchapman, You can get the SPACER from Gehring Textiles. They have it in different thicknesses. Just Google them and you should get their website. If that doesn't work, send me an email. Jerry
  17. The last time I checked with Tony (a few years ago) on one of his canopy products, I got zero response. I believe that he is no longer interested in them. Jerry
  18. Hi Terry, Just out of nothing but curiosity (and no names req'd), how many companies/individuals have applied for membership and been denied since 1 Jan 2000? Jerry
  19. Hi Jeff, I have not printed it out to make any 'loose' measurements. But just on observation it looks like the 'hole' for the white loop is smaller than the I.D. of a '0' grommet; also the cable is now contained in a 'cylinder'. Both of these things would/should improve/decrease the possibility of 'cable pull through.' Just a quick observation on my part; I would love to get a couple to play with. Looks like it is letter-writing time, Jerry
  20. Hi Cash, Skydive Oregon is Exit 271 off of I-5, go 13 miles east and you are there. If you get to the town of Molalla, Oregon, turn around and go about 1 mile back. Joe is more bark than bite. Jerry

  22. Hi Lee, There's the answer. Although the specifications are submitted to the ACO (Aircraft Certification Office) in the area that the Mfr is located and which is governed by the subject office. I am VERY sure that there are rigs out there that have the RSL as an option and NO paperwork was ever submitted regarding it. TSO C23b makes no reference to a RSL. Just my thoughts based upon my experience, Jerry
  23. Hi PW, It took place in Southern California on New Year's Day, 1 Jan '65. The photos were all over LIFE Magazine; and eventually SKYDIVER Magazine. What I found interesting is the chest pack reserve did not have a pilot chute. Jerry
  24. Hi Ian, Well, I do. I made most of my jumps at his two dz's; the one in Donald, OR & the one in Sheridan, OR. If you hear a wild-n-crazy story about either of them, consider it about 98% true. Wild times; but NO place for a student. I NEVER sent a student to any of his dz's. NEVER!!!!! Jerry
  25. Hi Chris, Mike Turoff (I think he is 'Mikejumps' here on dizzy.com) did a very good presentation at PIA on this. I do not remember all of the details and think his efforts, to date, are only with 1 3/4" wide risers. Maybe someone can 'coax' him for some input here. Jerry
