  1. Hi Nick, Here's mine ( this is a recreation because one Saturday night coming out of tavern the original ended up in a nasty mudpuddle; I had to sit down with the 'DZO' Jens and re-do it ): JerryBaumchen
  2. Hi nano, The city of Campinas in Brazil has the best dz in South America, IMO. 2nd to Campinas is the dz in Boituva, Brazil. I have no contact info. You might try the www.pia.com website and see what you find; or maybe the dz locator on this site. JerryBaumchen PS) Disclaimer: it has been about 13 yrs since I was on the dz in Campinas.
  3. Hi Sarah, A couple of years ago I read THE LIFE & DEATH OF PLANET EARTH. It is by a couple of scientists and includes a lot extrapolation. I thought it was going to a very dry read; not at all, VERY interesting. JerryBaumchen
  4. Hi Rob, I owned two of those reserves and never had any problem with understanding how to pack them. I think it is something about it is the teacher's responsibility to teach . . . . JerryBaumchen PS) Or as some people post, RTFM. PPS) Actually I am thinking that would make a great test for a newly certificated rigger; hand him a 5-cell Swift reserve and the manual, get a bag of popcorn and sit back and see what happens.
  5. Hi floor, These machines are now quite old. I had one rebuilt some time ago and had the proper cam put in it for the 42 stitch. In other words, I am 'thinking' that the designation 108 may not be applicable any longer. It is my 'understanding' that it determined by what cam is in it. Just my worthless 2 cents . . . . JerryBaumchen PS) And I am not sure how you determine which cam that you have. Mark Lancaster ( MEL on this forum ) is now 'out there somewhere' and he is the guy who rebuilt my 269. Maybe shoot an email to Dave DeWolf, his website is www.paraloft.com and he usually responds.
  6. He did NOT like being called an Okie!!!!! JerryBaumchen
  7. Hi Ckret, Just to keep everything factual; Issaquah Sky Sports was a club operation. All members were owners. It was not 'owned' by any one person. Lynn Emerich ( RIP ) was the club Treasurer, collected the money, paid the bills and held the lease on the airport. JerryBaumchen
  8. Hi lilchief, Back in about '67 or so I read an article on something like this (PARACHUTIST or SKYDIVER magazine, don't remember which). The results were that the highest moment of anxiety was just at pull time. The author (doing the study and who hooked the gadgets up to the jumpers) felt that it was because of the uncertainty as to whether or not the main canopy was going to open. Now personally, I have always felt the highest anxiety at the moment of launch. I have never had any concern ( that I was aware of, and I might be brain-dead ) as to whether my main would open or not. These things seem to just keep popping up, JerryBaumchen
  9. Hi Jay, I'm with you, it looks like Tempelhof. JerryBaumchen PS) One June evening in '63 I was standing 10 feet from Konrad Adenhauer & Willie Brandt at Tempelhof.
  10. Hi there, It takes a LOT of work to remove D-rings from a B-4 harness. I have known Earl Cossey since the 60's and I doubt that this occured. Do you have something factual regarding this removal of the D-rings? JerryBaumchen
  11. Hi Rob, About the July '64 issue of PARACHUTIST had a cover picture of a guy jumping a Ballute. This was some type of drogue system on a fore & aft rig. What goes around comes around . . . . . JerryBaumchen
  12. Hi Terry, 1. The cam thing can be added; it just clips or bolts on. 2. I am not sure about finding it. When I first got began negotiating for my 217 it did not have the cam thing or the proper cam that I wanted. The seller then found everything & I got just what I wanted. More info in our emails, JerryBaumchen PS) I believe that someone ( not me ) stated on this site that they are the very best zig-zaggers to be found.
  13. Hi Terry, 1. I got a reply email from the seller asking for my phone number ( which I sent to her ), so we will have to see what happens. I might just be interested; that is a VERY good price. 2. I looked at your ebay listed machine ( if that could be had for $100 then it would be the buy of 2007; if it is in good shape ); still no box/bracket for the cams. The box/bracket for the cams is just that and it bolts onto the backside of the machine when you are sitting at it. I do not consider the cams really necessary for most work. I got the cam box/bracket with the proper cam to do a 308 zig-zag because I simply like that stitch ( just an old fart thing ). I'll keep you posted on what might develop, JerryBaumchen
  14. Hi A1C, I was in when A1C was an E-4; how about you? I was in when it went from A1/C to A1C. JerryBaumchen
  15. Hi Gene, I remember him well, he was living & Jumping in this area ( Portland, OR ) for quite some time before he departed for life in Elsinore. He had VERY thick glasses, JerryBaumchen
  16. Hi hackish, You gotta be careful around open windows. Back in the 60's there was a 180 that had the rear pilot's side window missing. A 4-way was going to altitude and the guy sitting transverse to the fuselage, wearing a piggyback rig, had his reserve pilot chute inadvertently go out the window. You can guess as to what followed that pilot chute out that window. JerryBaumchen
  17. To all of you out there, Re: http://cgi.ebay.com/...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If this Bernina 217 is in any decent condition then this is a fantastic opportunity to get a great machine. I do notice that it does not have the attachment so that you can install the cams. However, it will still do a straight stitch and a 304 zig-zag. I have one or I would go for it myself. Someone needs to, IMO. JerryBaumchen
  18. Hi Zing, The new kids won't know what I'm talking about but I can still remember, back in '67, 4 of us going to 12.5 and no one touched anyone else during the entire jump. Who woulda thunk? Oh, sorry, we were 'trying' to do a 4-star. JerryBaumchen
  19. Hi howard, I remember the photos. I 'think' Lowell Bachman might have been in that group. I also 'think' that they were taken in Wisconson????? But, yes it was just like that back in those days. Weren't we kewl????? JerryBaumchen
  20. Hi Phree, I think ( note the personal opinion ) they should have to but they are not req'd to report any incidents. I know, I worked on something like this 1 1/2 yrs ago and was 'told' by the USPA HQ. JerryBaumchen
  21. Well, Ted Mayfield's Sheridan Sky Sports was a USPA GM, if that defines anything. JerryBaumchen
  22. Hi samantha, Shoot an email to: rcontel@airpress.com.br Or write to him at: RICARDO CONTEL AV. JOAO FRANCISCO DE OLIVEIRA 2710 PQE DAS ARVORES, BOITUVA SP BRAZIL 18550 He has a company called Air Loft. He is a jumper/rigger/etc but has gone on to do just what you are thinking of doing. I believe that all of his business is strictly in South America. Not close but he should provide some good info for you. Best of luck, JerryBaumchen
  23. Hi northcave, Why wait? Email your serial number to PD & they will tell what you have. Then you can 'inform' whoever packed it/filled in the data card. JerryBaumchen
  24. Paladin. Good grief everyone know's that, JerryBaumchen PS) This stuff is kinda interesting haven't thought about that stuff in decades. When I was a kid our phone number was: TWin Oaks 9658, my mother still has that phone number just with a few more numbers added; and no letters, they went away in the 60's I think.
