  1. Hi Rob, You must have not been at Allen Silver's packing seminar at PIA/Reno where the Aussies showed their new paper seals. When I get some time I'm going to contact Allen and see what we can get going with the paper seals. Paper seals = no lead in the environment, nothing to jam a ripcord pin, and much easier to use. JerryBaumchen PS) I hi-jacked a couple of the paper seals and need to get with my daughter ( my graphic artist person ) on how to get them printed.
  2. Hi Terry, A local jumper, John Hardin, who was probably over 250 'out the door' stood-up a SAC once. It can be done, JerryBaumchen
  3. Hi howard, i do believe that if someone checks his name is Jerry Myers. But, I am NOT always correct. JerryBaumchen
  4. Hi howard, Yeehaw, somebody owes me a beer. JerryBaumchen
  5. Hi ripcord, Maybe we should get a reunion going for those who have: had to dump a "Twilly" at almost terminal JerryBaumchen
  6. Hi howard, I'm with John, I think it was for the movie. Wasn't it Jerry Myers who did the jumping? Inquirying minds want to know. JerryBaumchen PS) I know that I am ineligible but who follows rules anymore?
  7. Hi riddler, IMO, those numbers are debateable; which is a good thing. I think that about 30 yrs after peak oil we will know just how many folks ole Mother Earth can handle. I won't be here but you might. JerryBaumchen PS) For those interested, a good book ( that I do NOT take as gospel ) is THE LONG EMERGENCY by James Kunstler. It is an interesting read.
  8. Hi divot, What is interesting is that today's OREGONIAN newspaper has a substantial article on: 'Sexting: Dumb prank or child porn? It seems as though a few young, teenage girls were at a party when a photo was taken and electronically distributed around. According to the article it had something to do with oral sex and an animal. The DA is considering a child porn prosecution of the girl who sent it around. In this state, that would be a Measure 11 crime ( a predetermined minimum sentence; judge has no discretion ) and a lifetime of being a registered sex offender. JerryBaumchen
  9. Hi Bill, The failure was in the stitching that holds the reserve container to the main pack tray. In this case, it is not a failure of (like leather, tie-dyed fabrics etc.) Just trying to provide info to people about this 'failure,' JerryBaumchen
  10. Hi spence, This reply is not to be negative towards you, it is to ( hopefully) enlighten you. From the photos it looks like it might be a Sidewinder rig. If so, it is built of exactly the same materials that all other modern rigs are built from. And, IMO, they a very well built. I once built a rig and had the 2nd owner return it to me with a similar problem. It took me a long time and a long discussion with the user to finally determine how it could happen. In modern sport rigs the reserve container is sewn to the main pack tray ( if one really wants to learn how a modern rig is built go find yourself a really old, worn-out Vector I & take it all apart; you will learn all you need to know ). What happens is the jumper opens on their side, the low-side riser 'hooks' around the corner of the reserve container ( the lower bottom corner where it is the thickest ) and the forces of the main canopy opening will tear the reserve container away from the main pack tray. Almost any rig will have this result under these conditions. Now because of experience with the problem ( and numerous mfrs have experienced this ), some have sewn little triangular pieces that go down the side of the reserve container, at the bottom corners, and back into the main pack tray and inch or two. This makes for a 'ski slope' for the main risers to slide up and prevent this tearing of the reserve container from the assembly. From what I know of this is that it can only occur when a jumper is opening on their side, as in 1/4 of the way through a bellyroll. Does this explain this type of incident sufficiently? Take care, JerryBaumchen
  11. Hi jon, Even better is laying on your back and watching the POB's pull back the flaps and watching your 24' flat twill NOT deploy ( no reserve pilot chute in those early days ). I just sat there far about a second watching the folded canopy as it just was laying there on my belly and not going anywhere. I finally just swung my hand at it to get it to move. Did that twice, 2nd time I was an 'old hand' at it. JerryBaumchen
  12. Hi mcordell, Well, you know what they say about memory? Guess I should keep my mouth shut. JerryBaumchen PS) I have FAA approval to install a full-stow diaper on that canopy if you want one.
  13. Hi mcordell, I do not remember the SAC coming with any 'two stow diaper.' They usually came with a full-stow diaper ( when configured for a sport reserve container ) or a flat-full-stow diaper ( when configured for a pilot rig ). Send me an email with your address & I'll see what info I have. JerryBaumchen PS) What are you putting it in?
  14. Hi John, Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kiss_(Rodin_sculpture) JerryBaumchen
  15. Hi howard, Here is the scary part: Some technological, training and regulatory interventions are suggested to increase safety. Looks like he wants the Swedish gov't getting into things. JerryBaumchen
  16. Hi Terry, Give me a couple of days and I'll go see what I got. I know I did have a Strong 26 Ft a few yearss ago but it might have gotten sold somewhere along the line. JerryBaumchen PS) How about a National 26 ft LoPo; I think I got one of those?
  17. Hi cloud, If you were to put them through abrasive testing I am very sure that the 1000d would well surpass the 500d in abrasion resistance. NOTE: I have never performed any abrasion testing of these fabrics. Now ( IMO ), the trade-off is that the 500d looks much nicer. Just my thoughts . . . . JerryBaumchen
  18. Hi John, You might want to have reconsidered that thought. I believe that aircraft was out over the Pacific when the roof left. JerryBaumchen
  19. Hi cloud, UPT uses 500d Cordura unless it is a color not available. Sunpath uses 1,000d Cordura. That is the difference, JerryBaumchen
  20. Hi david, Some of us have tried but Quade refuses to move it. JerryBaumchen
  21. Hi howard, Well, sheesh, give us some time to reply. Jaques Istel once told me about the Italians in the '30's who would pull down the apex to get to the ground faster. Looks like them, JerryBaumchen
  22. Hi 1969, Why who would have guessed? The three cars that I should have kept: 1932 Ford 5-window coupe, had it my Senior year in high school. Yes, a real one. 1957 Chev black 2-dr hardtop, the 2nd one that I owned. I converted it from an autobox to a stick w/overdrive. 1965 Porsche 356C coupe. I built it to just below showroom condition. My last great car was a 1997 BMW 840Ci; Google it to learn about a fantastic car. Now if I had the money: Maclaren F-1 Just my preferences, JerryBaumchen
  23. Hi bozo, It's the Second Coming of the Six Million Dollar Man. JerryBaumchen PS) I hope it helps; constant pain is no fun. I used to be plagued with kidney stones until a simple surgery took care of the problem.
  24. Hi Keith, I think it was Dan Poynter who said that a wife is there to help you with a problem that you would never have had if you had stayed single. JerryBaumchen
