  1. Hi John, And, I continue to say, 'The American electorate is uninformed & prefers to stay that way.' A damn sorry state of affairs. Jerry Baumchen
  2. Hi John, While some may disagree, I do not consider these two things to be of the same importance: told his teacher that he was going to commit a murder-suicide who says something stupid to a teacher Jerry Baumchen
  3. Hi Wendy, Thanks for that; it is interesting reading. My concern is everyone, even Moscow Mitch, is jumping on the bandwagon of mental health. So, I ask: Which of the mass shooters this year would have not passed a mental health exam? From your link: The Buffalo shooter told his teacher that he was going to commit a murder-suicide after he graduated. If the teacher does nothing when she/he learns this, then just what will work? Until my mind is changed, I've given up on 'dealing with mental health issues' being what can stop this carnage. Jerry Baumchen
  4. Hi folks, And, then there is this: Burger King’s debuts ‘Pride Whopper’ with two top or bottom buns in Austria - oregonlive.com Oh, the horror. Jerry Baumchen
  5. Hi Wendy, Re: And a 60-year-old has potentially 20+ more years of serving, the way things are now. Frankly, that's ridiculous. Think Diane Feinstein *: Dianne Feinstein - Wikipedia 88 yrs old & re-elected two yrs ago. IMO that is insanity. Surely, there is at least one other Democrat in California ( 39 million residents ) who could do her job. Like you, I have given this a fair amount of thought over the yrs. Also, like you, I've read numerous articles both pro & con. I've decided, again like you, that it's time has come. The problem is that no one in Congress will support it. And, without them changing the rules, it ain't gonna happen. Nice try, but no cigar. Jerry Baumchen * I've been reading recently that a number of her colleagues think she is suffering from early on-set of dementia. At her age, it is fairly probable.
  6. Hi John, I do not have any problem with the owner of the guns being sued. Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi John, I'm probably as concerned as you are about the continual carnage. However, until the SCOTUS does some re-deciding or we revise the 2nd Amendment, I have doubts that anything will work. On the other hand, if a few juries do what would be IMO, the right thing, then things might just change: Uvalde families take first steps to possible lawsuit against gunmaker : NPR I think they should sue every person/business in the entire chain of ownership of these weapons. Jerry Baumchen PS) And, I still like Joe Weber's thoughts on taxing the holy hell out of the bullets needed to kill.
  8. Hi 2005, I would suggest that you then do something about it. Last month, here in Oregon, we held our primary elections. I donated the most money I have ever donated to any candidate, to a woman running for the D nomination in a Congressional district that I do not live in. In Nov, because I do not live in her district, I cannot vote for her; as I also could not do this recent May. Later this summer, I intend to make donations to three US House candidates, all here in Oregon, all female, all D's, from districts that I do not live in. And, I cannot vote for any of the three. I like to think it is putting my money where my mouth is. Jerry Baumchen

  10. Hi Rob, I still remember when de Gaulle came to Quebec ( the 60's I think - maybe later ) and admonished them to secede from the rest of Canada. He had everyone in a uproar for a while. Jerry Baumchen
  11. Hi Joe, When I was about 10 yrs old, I was attacked by a rather large, to me, German Shepherd dog. He got me in my right thigh. Somethings in life you never forget. I don't like any dogs, no matter the size. I do not hate them, I just want nothing to do with them. Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hi Joe, The other day I saw a short tv news clip of Moscow Mitch telling us that we need stronger mental health laws. Of the shooters just this year, who used AR-15's, which one of them would fail a mental health exam? I seriously doubt that even one would. All this jaw flapping about background checks & more money for mental health is, IMO, not going to stop the carnage. It just kicking the can down the road. Something almost every politician is very good at. Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi Ian, Since the device will be a crude, 1-time only thing, rather than cutting a hole in it [ maybe difficult to get your hand out, if needed ], just get a small piece of plastic tubing, fold over one end & sew the tubing in. This gives you something to easily hold yet easy to get rid of, if necessary. Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Rob, Re: If those conservatives were wiser Therein lies their problem. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi Bill, As the, then Saudi Oil Minister said many years ago, 'The Stone Age did not end because they ran out of rocks.' Jerry Baumchen

  18. Hi folks, I guess that Oklahoma is not OK: x 2: Fatalities reported, multiple people injured in shooting at Tulsa, Oklahoma, medical office: Police (yahoo.com) Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi folks, de Gaulle tried it with little success: French officials told to abandon gaming Anglicisms - BBC News IMO it's like trying to push water upstream; you just cannot do it. Jerry Baumchen
  20. Hi John, Re: It's the same set I think it is sort of like an addiction. Some people can be cured of any addiction with easy treatable methods. Some, can never conquer any addiction they suffer. Johnny Carson, long-time host of the TONIGHT show, was a lifelong smoker. I understand he tried every method available to quit. It eventually killed him. Jerry Baumchen
  21. Hi Bill, Your list is a perfect example of the old, 'Hey, look over here.' The GOP knows that their support of guns unlimited is what gets them votes. And, that they do not want to change, ever. IMO the only solution is to vote out the GOP in every office everywhere. Although, I do like Joe Weber's idea on taxing the hell out of the ammo. Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi Rob, I'm thinking that the North Vietnamese Army troops were more motivated than today's Russian Army troops. Jerry Baumchen
  23. Hi folks, When you cannot beat them at the ballot box; well, there just has to be another way to do it: ‘It’s going to be an army’: Tapes reveal GOP plan to contest elections - POLITICO Jerry Baumchen
  24. Hi kleggo, I remember seeing that ad back then and thinking, 'He could not be more right.' Jerry Baumchen
  25. Hi Joe Weber, Are guns allowed at SDO? Having never taken one there, I simply do not know. Jerry Baumchen
