At the time resurrections were somewhat common, the raising of Jairus' daughter for example. Then there was Matthew 27:52 and the opening of the tombs and the raising of the many holy dead who then, given there were no Ubers at the time, must have thumbed it into Jerusalem for snacks and fresh clothes before the celebration. Of course, even though there were notable historians like Flavius Josephus there at the time no mention of these miracles is recorded. Now isn't that odd?

I'd like it if Jay, or Ron for that matter, could offer any evidence that the Bible is true other than the bible itself or some other believer giving a speech on youtube.

If your kid won’t go to bed because of monsters in the closet and you check but there aren’t any monsters in the closet. And this goes on night after night and the kid won’t go to bed but keeps telling you they are there but you can’t see them, would you just accept that if the kid believes they’re there it must be true?

No matter how deeply felt the conviction if it cannot be proven it is not a truth, it is simply a belief.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
JoeWeber replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
Chutkan set the trial for March 24. Game on. Now let's get some camera's in the room. -
I do believe we've again reached that delightfully happy moment where the expression of our world views is indistinguishable from simply talking past each other. That, and now I'm bored. Have a great day.
-
That makes no sense except to a Christian, I suppose, who might believe that their opinions/religion must be accepted by everyone without any offense taking.
-
If you like, but did you correctly understand what I wrote?

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
JoeWeber replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
I should probably have posted this in the Hurricane thread, because of how Trump will react, but Judge Chutkan today informed him he was nothing special and would just need to make his schedule work while he was being tried. -
That's gobbledygook. We each have every right to be offended by what the other says. In this instance I truly do not want you to be offended. What I want is for you to be open to the idea that what you accept without evidence has no traction with the rest of us and should not under any pretext be forced into our lives. That's it, plain and simple.
-
Of course you understand it, you do it and it is the single most irritating thing about the religious. For the most of us we don't give a damn about what you believe that makes your day go easier, we simply don't want it or the effects of it forced into our lives. And for damn sure we are tired of subsidizing it with tax breaks etc. And why stop at blessing America, is that as much as he can handle in a single blessing?

John, most aren't doing it under threat. They are mostly decent folks who don't know jack about the belief system they belong to or the book they are supposed to worship. My guess is that, at best, most think that Deuteronomy is what gets into the well water after a nuclear bomb blast.

Oh, I don't know. I guess I'd be without druthers if a hurricane smited Texas or Florida.
-
Time for Florida to start crying for some of that bloated government agency disaster relief.
-
No kidding. No wonder the Borg are angry all the time.

Spiting Russian threats that they would be crossing a "Red Line", Germany is sending their Taurus long range cruise missile to Ukraine. It's a true bunker buster and has a 310 mile range. Say goodbye to the Kerch Bridge.
-
How freaking far down the rabbit hole do you need to be for this to make sense?
-
Yes, and that's important to remember. I think there are a whole lot of decent folks who use the community of Christianity to be even better decent folks. That's great and worthy of admiration. But I don't think that without Christianity many would be terrible people completely careless of the fates of their fellow humans. It's just a tool that makes them feel better and be more effective being who they already were.

Alright, I agree with the corrections. The real issue is that we need to understand that they aren't telling us the truth. We're all mostly agreeable to the idea that Muslims are permitted in the Koran to lie to infidels in defense of the faith and for that we scorn them. But somehow, we are able to ignore that is the same privilege Christians claim. That needs to be called out at each opportunity.

I too am all for people taking comfort in whatever will make the one life they will ever have more pleasant. Unfortunately for too many believers like Jay and Ron, no matter how they protest, the truth is they will never be happy until you and I believe it too.
-
The effort would be a waste of time. You don't want to be educated, and it shows in every post you make.
-
The existence of God is easily provable to anyone who first opens their mind to the existence of God and accepts the Bible as his Word.
-
So you think we should organize our lives around a bundle of vague implications? Can you understand why that's a non-starter for more and more people all of the time?
-
I know you were quoting him. Please try to explain what he meant, which you believe, in a way that doesn't rely on the listener believing something before they're told what they are being asked to believe.

Then why did you post this: "In sin did my mother conceive me" as if it were a truth of the Christian faith? Either it means that the act is sinful in and of itself or it is sinful because everything we do is sinful owing to our being made sinners before our eyes first saw light.
