  1. Singer, Dancer, Skeptical Thinker. Semi Retired ...Driven by solving the mysteries of life. Got me, maybe he is a singer, a dancer and is semi retired.
  2. I did, once. I traded a Seneca I for a Twin Beech back in the early 80's. At the time it seemed a swell idea. On a grand suggestion I ordered a jumpsuit the color of Beech oil. And yes, as you seem want to do, you are misinterpreting me.
  3. Well, Grasshopper, it is a very different animal. And an animal it is. A Turbine Beech, that is the Hamilton Westwind conversion as opposed to the Tradewinds version, is a tail dragger. That is, for your edification, a Twin Turbine tail dragger. Now if'n you've never spooled up an early PT6 you probably don't know that the engines will accelerate to full take-off horsepower at different rates. Now imagine you are taking off in a quartering tailwind and need to not only manage the engines as they accelerate but also the location of the tail as you wait to get on the mains. Now, I loved the thing, and for the history books we were first to own one not Skydive Arizona, but it was a handful on the best day's. That said, they could bring out the dumb in you like few other airplanes and getting the right stick to fly it was a drama.
  4. Nope, I'm looking at going back to Turbine Beech's for up jumpers and innovating by doing Students and Tandems out of tall trees. Of course, given that they'll be doing their own hand cams, we'll need to discount a little but we live in changing times.
  5. We aren't throwing money away, but we might throw away our last chance to contain Russia.
  6. Thank you for completely screwing up the rest of my day.
  7. *Whoop-de-doodle*, so has Brent. When will you start showing him some due? He's also spent 20 years in Special Forces, gave out toasters at a bank, has a black friend, is raising two kids (God help us all), taught youngun's how to skydive and live, and wrote the best seller Art of the Troll. Like it or not, (no, Lippy, it's not a poll) he does deserve some respect.
  8. Lippy, you totally rule the roost.
  9. Perhaps, but you aren't holding forth on jumping topics , instead you are putting yourself out there as a math and science expert and a keen identifier of scallywags. You are right about one thing though, unless it spends enough time in the pickle barrel it's just a soggy cucumber.
  10. Why would he or anyone else wish that you had a bus season pass? You're a smart fellow wether or not you're old enough to sit for the drivers test or live above your own liquor store and walk to work. That said your sense of privacy about personal details on a forum where you, if not pontificate, hold forth strongly, seems silly to me. Pretty much all of your correspondents here have dropped their kickers for a peek, why not you too?
  11. You know, it's becoming more plausible that you do drive a Mini-Cooper and live in your parents basement.
  12. Next up: ATU or equivalent.
  13. No conspiracy theory, I think. Instead let's change up the game and stop sending aid to Israel. Tell them to stop pretending the future is in Gods hands and if they can not get peace with a military already orders of magnitude stronger than Hamas they are not worth further investment.
  14. Who even spent time thinking about it? I have no clue how it happened but it could have been as simple as investing capital in job creating depreciable assets and kicking the tax can down the road.
  15. The scams are many which is why I think taxing appreciated capital above a certain value makes the most sense. Maybe 3% above a Billion, 5% above 10 Billion, and 15% above 15 billion. If the capital is actually working through the economy you can pay easily. If you get taxed down to just a Billion Dollars from 100 Billion you'll still have plenty for a pity party.
  16. Any you can vary the risk depending how you place it. Also, like Warren Buffet you pay no gains until you sell. Worrying about capital gains rates as an example of economic disparity is misplaced concern, I think. Better to wonder why huge holdings in stocks, real estate etc. with massive unrealized gains in excess of, say, one billion USD, aren't taxed.
  17. In the US it's at 15% long term Federal and whatever the state adds on. In Oregon that's 10%. Short term, less than a year is at 25% or a total rate of 35%. Try to remember that your labor income is a consequence of someone risking capital.
  18. Not so with respect to capital gains. Those happen when you sell wealth and you get taxed based on how long you held the asset.
  19. Of course, Biden is the root cause of all border problems, but with friends like these...... "PANAMA CITY (AP) — Panama and Costa Rica announced a plan to quickly bus thousands of migrants through Panama to the Costa Rican border, as the countries continue to grapple with a steady increase in the number of migrants moving through the jungle-clad Darien Gap. Panama estimates that 420,700 migrants have crossed the Gap from Colombia to Panama so far this year, making it likely the full-year number will top a half million."
  20. According to a local coterie of gadfly's, we have at least 100 years of fossil fuels to burn on the way to 800ppm CO2, the end of all lefty effete feedback loop cocktail conversation, and a most salubrious future where food plants are growing out of our ears and Saudi Arabia has assumed the mantle of the number one farming nation in the world. Sounds good to me. For planning my 100 years from now portfolio, just how should I start positioning myself for a fossil fuel free future and when? Obviously you'd argue now is not the time and electricity is no more than a passing fad, and you might be right. But again, what and when?
  21. Fair enough, but as this is a civil not criminal proceeding by pleading the fifth the judges are allowed to assume the worst.
  22. So as not to come off as smarmy and dishonest by over finessing a trivial thing?
  23. So I have a different view. You have hammered Brent on the EV topic and more nonstop. I think his question is fair and you are being unfair to avoid the answer.
  24. Actually, I've been told, oddball uncles drive 2009 F-150's with crack windshields and engines that rattle.
