Time to just drop the COVID relief payments...
JoeWeber replied to Westerly's topic in Speakers Corner
If you are going to use your wife's travel business as an example you will need to give some specific detail. Was she trying to fill part time or temporary jobs? What was the wage offered? Benefits? Seasonal? -
Time to just drop the COVID relief payments...
JoeWeber replied to Westerly's topic in Speakers Corner
Normally, is my guess. You'll continue to turn a blind eye to facts like Walmart employees taking billions of dollars in public assistance-food stamps, medicaid, etc-to support your need to pretend there is no societal cost. That's OK but extended unemployment pay, or a lousy 1000 bucks, during a world wide pandemic is just plain awful. And tomorrow you will wake up disbelieving that the money a government gives to it's starving and needy, especially when it can be borrowed at next to zero interest, will circulate up to you. -

Don't go close by or just make an attempt to see that you are a part of the problem of keeping poor people poor. -

You never disappoint me, don't worry. So, just how do you suppose they are able to afford those deep discounts on your Twinkies and Diet Dr. Pepper? Hint: fucking over small retailers by demanding giant discounts from suppliers and subsidizing the rest with profits from cheap Chinese imports. But it is almost across the street so you get a pass, right? -

But you just love shopping there for cheap Chinese imports the other 29 day's each month? You don't need to go there at all, you know, even if it's so close and so convenient. Just hop in the ol' gas guzzler and head for any Mom and Pop joint. Sure, it'll cost more and might also not be exactly what you want and, yes, your monthly expenses will go up. But you will be buying American, supporting your local economy and warming a cold hearted planet with more CO2. Best of all you'll be acting in conformance with your beliefs. Wouldn't that be fun? -
It's just damn sad, really. Anyone can be educated. Having the faculties to do something with it, regardless of your surroundings or peers, is the trick apparently. Biden said there are “things you can’t do by executive order unless you are a dictator. We’re a democracy, we need consensus.” The right wing echo chamber blew it all out of proportion and then shaped it into another conservative false narrative. I don't know which is more maddening, is it that these things are so easily checked or is it that so many are duped again and again and still don't doubt their own sources?

Jerry's point is spot on. You really must respect first hand knowledge, I always say. Even now, in 2021, many gas stations in a large part of the developing world are just liter bottles of gasoline on a homemade rack, half with rag stoppers not caps, placed along the road here and there. Walking, then biking, then motorcycles and then cars seems to be the progression. At the of start motorcycle stage there is next to zero infrastructure. Like EV's it's first the vehicle and then the infrastructure. Some posters here really need to get out more.

Nope. It comes from somewhere, sometime. I thought you had an MBA and worked in banking for a while. For sure, sovereign debt can collapse an economy. However, the invariable first warning sign is the inability to borrow at low rates. That is not now or on the horizon. So if you are intent on making the claims let us have some facts and projections not just your concerns. -
Man, you have a knack for connecting dots that don't exist that is truly fascinating.

Would the ability to invest in commercial real estate suit you? -
It wasn't funny. It wasn't cute. It wasn't topical. It wasn't thoughtful. It wasn't informative. It wasn't even silly. And it definitely didn't inspire anyone with any desire to understand the problem to rethink a position. It was more like a phantom twitch than anything else.

Rough sledding, sorry for that, for the passengers in the bus but at least now we know when you first started thinking about EV's. I'm gonna start googling but if it turns out that EV's have wood fired heaters I'm bailing on the entire green thing.

Give me a day to circle back to this one. I'll need to consult with a few Forensic Economists to sort out how much $1000 would have equaled 50,000 years ago. -

That's not proof. Clearly, you have very little understanding of economics in general and being poor in particular. If you have an $8. and hour job in and area where $12. or $15. an hour is the required minimum then you are one of the employed poor. Maybe you scraped by and found some sort of way pre-covid but now cannot for all of the obvious reasons. Rich people rarely become not rich. Poor people, given the chance, often become not poor. That, in a nutshell is what economic growth means. -
Good for you.

Now it makes sense, you see the American Flag as a square.

Please post your research proving this fact. So, just a little refresher for you, we are not hunter gatherers anymore: we have an economy. An economy relies on the circulation of currency. No circulation of currency = no economy. No economy means we are all fucked even those of us who can not connect the dots. Republicans believe that giving $1.5 Trillion to those of our citizens who are already filthy rich, and don't deserve it, will cause money to circulate from the top down thus giving needed stimulus to an economy in need. Democrats believe it makes better sense to bypass them and the middle men and circulate money from the bottom up giving it to those most in need. Obviously, the risk there is that some who won't deserve it will get more money to spend. That works out, oddly enough, because the entire goal is to get people spending money. In both cases the goal is the same which is to stimulate the economy so the whole shebang doesn't go to hell in a hand basket. So, once you understand what is actually happening it all starts to make sense and worrying about whether poor people are buying food or dining out becomes less of an annoyance. -
How hard were you giggling when you finally gained enough control to post this?

Unlike the cost of energy everywhere else in the world? Seriously man, you are getting tedious.

Dude, in Venezuela the gas attendants don't even ask for the few bolivars it costs because the bolivars are worthless. So you just drive on.

Same way they graduate from Harvard and Yale and......Oxford, I'm thinking.

Learning how the game is played can be expensive. Often times the winner in a threatened legal action can be predicted early on just by observing who will be able to pluck the heart strings the loudest. The main thing is to not let yourself get too wrapped up in who is right or wrong. The main thing is, that if you want to settle, you need to know what your true cost of defense will be if you lose. That's the number you are working with. If on principal you have no intention of settling, and you damn well might, then the money is spent and no bitching later. Seems to me a $15K settlement against $250K plus a lot more in defense fees was a poorly fought case. Never forget Rule #1: Courts are no place to go for justice.

I needed to spend an age related google on that, thanks. You know, given the tribal nature of high school to high school relationships maybe we should just let each incoming senior class name the school for that year. Obviously, SC Moderators would not be asked to weigh in on the name choices.

Sort of. Mostly it seems that if it was a 100% non-union project he'd be thrilled to the same degree he doesn't seem to care greatly about the "10,000 additional" non-union jobs. This should simply be filed under predictable, dishonest horse shit and not used as a lame excuse to slam John Kerry.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
