  1. Yup, sorry, Clay. I got both of my freefly suits from Gotcha Covered Gear in about a week, both times. The second one even had custom paint and freefly gills. The beautiful Kris Waldo at Gotcha Covered is one hell of a seamstress. Kris
  2. Okay, this may be a frowned-upon technique but, for the most part, can't you usually stop excessive snivel with some riser input? There have been a few occasions where my Stiletto was taking a bit longer than I would have liked during opening so I will gently pull down on both rear risers evenly until the canopy starts to open. I forget who told me about this one but it seems to work really well on my canopy. The trick is that it doesn't take very much and you have to be smooth and even. I gave myself a line-twist the first time I tried it by not keeping it even. Just my $0.02, Kris
  3. Damn! Those helmets are looking very schweet! What clear coat did you use? I couldn't find a good one to use when I air-brushed my Bonehead, they were too soft. Kris

    Weekend numbers

4:0:0 Damn head cold. ARGH! I'll be down at Skydive Dallas next weekend though to improve that second number.

One thing that you can do to help with the slack lines is to run your hands underneath the canopy (while you're lying on top of it pushing out the air) and smooth the fabric towards the bridle attachment point. This pulls the tail and lines taut. Just remember to use a light touch and a little finesse. Kris

I going to vote for glasses too. Kris (Yummmy thoughts of Lisa Loeb...)
  7. Snowflake, I see you are in San Marcos. Skydive Dallas is trying to get enough jumpers together and when they do they will have Scott Miller come in to teach a full canopy control course. Cost is $25 for registration & $25 per jump which includes a hop n' pop, training, debrief, and video. I am already on the list to do at least 5 jumps. Contact Freaksis for info if you are interested. Kris
  8. Actually, the student and yourself probably hopped off of the step instead of gently stepping off. I have IAD'd several very small girls (a couple under 100 pounds) and have never had them "flap" if they gently stepped off. We give a cut but it isn't a great one and we keep power into the prop. If a student hops off then their momentum will swing them around a bit before they settle. If it's bad enough and they haven't fallen off I will usually wait a second or two to make sure they have stopped swinging before I give the go command. As for bringing a student back in the airplane, it doesn't happen once they have started climbout. Since their pilot chute is already extracted it is too dangerous to try to bring them back in. Luckily, since I am climbing out with them I can kind of herd them along the strut. Kris

I get a lot of Vuja De... It's the feeling that none of this has ever happened before. Kris
  10. I worked at Best Buy many, many moons ago in the computer department. I remember taking apart one of the Compaq 486 DX/33's when they first came out to take a look at the guts. Silk-screened onto the motherboard was The Road Runner from LooneyTunes. Very Schweet! Actually, a lot of companies put graphics and funny text onto their dies. I used to have a link to some of the better stuff but I can't find it. Kris "Will skydive for bandwidth"
  11. I rolled 4&4 on my Sabre 210 and stuffed them in the center cell. I also psycho-packed it and the combo made for great openings. On my Stiletto I just tuck back four cells on each side and expose the center cell. For as slow as my Stiletto opens, I really don't want to see what would happen if I rolled the nose.
  12. I have a Mirage G3 UNISYN and there is no exposed cable on mine. The top of the soft handle is against the hard-housing for the reserve cable. There is about 1/8" gap between them. Kris
  13. Yeah, but when I got it (my Stiletto), the Sabre2's had just come out and I like the idea of seeing a parachute design used in the field for a couple of years before I consider it. Kris
  14. Me and Skymissy (Mike Farmer) should be there just after noon-ish. Here's the sweet part, I was taking a day of vacation for Friday but today, at the last minute, a PC at our DFW airport location ate it's hard drive. It'll take maybe an hour to reload the thing and I get milage and don't have to take the day as vacation! Now, I'm just hoping for jumpable weather. Kris (Doin' my anti-rain-dance)
  15. Looking up at the spinning mal I was having on her (my first elliptical's) first jump, "Damn, that color pattern looks sweet!" "Okay, now look at the handles you dork!" Kris
  16. That's what caused my last mal. A split second after the pilot chute inflated I felt a wierd bump on my back and when I looked up a second later the canopy was opening with line-twists already in place underneath the slider. I routinely leave between 18" & 24" now. Kris
  17. I wash my FF suit about once a month. It has hand-painted fabric-paint tye-dye and bright colors and I have never had a problem. I use Woolite. For the tough stains, I haul it to the local car-wash and take the pressure washer with soap to it. Make sure that the car-wash does not recycle water and that you let it run full-tilt for a full minute after you see the soap come out to make sure no other chemicals are mixed in with it before applying to your jumpsuit. I have gotten serious mud out of the white part of my jumpsuit with the car-wash and there's no trace of dirt left behind. We're talking real Oklahoma red-clay mud that doesn't normally come out of anything. Kris
  18. Awwwww, dammit! Somebody hide Quade's pocket protector so he'll be late and hopefully miss this thread!
  19. I have a Stiletto loaded just under 1.4 that I do straight-in landings with 99.5% of the time. Why did I buy it instead of another smaller Sabre? I hated the openings on the Sabre, the kind that made me miss two days of work recovering from. Why didn't I get a Tri or a Spectre? I don't like the flight characteristics of 7-cell canopies. Why didn't I get a Safire? I personally didn't like the way it handled in the air and I didn't like the control stroke on the flare. My Stiletto gives me great, soft openings no matter how I stuff it in the bag, it's an absolute animal when it comes to turns (I'm the guy that was always first in line at the biggest, baddest roller coasters) and the bottom-end lift was exactly what I am looking for, especially on hot, no-wind days. Do I aspire to do hook turns? Nope, maybe soft 90-degree carves in another year but that's about it. Just because it's made for swooping doesn't mean that I have to drive it that way. I fly it for the other advantages I listed above. Kris
  20. I used to have a really nice RW suit but I use my FF suit for everything now, including RW and working with students. I have much better fall-rate control with my FF suit then with my RW suit and I don't have to fly the suit as much (swoop cords, etc...). Kris
  21. They come from the company I work for, Hertz. Kris Just another LAN & Router monkey...
  22. Hey, Missy! I got you a suit. I stole it while on recon during an underpants gnome operation. The Tiki Freaks are safe. The pilot is drunk, so he's ready. We couldn't clear permission for the lake so I am just going to make a mud puddle in my backyard for you to land in. Once I get the cameras setup and give a call to the Darwin Awards committee we're set! Kris (Why am I helping him? Have you seen his wife!?

    "My colors"

Hmm, can you tell I like purple? My gear is purple, silver and white. Kris
  24. Yeah, I have short arms, and I had that problem too. I solved it by getting shorter risers on my first rig. When I ordered my new G3 I specifically ordered the 18" risers and they are perfect for me. Kris
  25. I have used one for the last 60-ish jumps on my Mirage G3 UNISYN. Simply put, I love it. It just takes a simple twisting motion to get it out (that I don't even think about any more) but it isn't coming out until I am ready for it to. I was a bit apprehensive about using it during the cold as I use the thicker gloves with the tacky grips (line-backer gloves) but I have never had any problems with it. Just my $0.02 Kris
