It's not problematic, it's the way our founders intended it to be. If South Carolina wanted to make it illegal for anyone to sell alcohol in their state, yet will issue a S&W .357 to every male citizen on his 16th birthday, they have that right. I, however, would never move there. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

A real guy should be a defender: -He should be able to defend a position in debate. -He should be able to defend himself and those he cares about when debate ceases to work. -He should know how to use a snap line, speed square, carpentry level, volt meter, and should be able to unhook a ckicks bra one handed without her knowing it. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Yes, we as a government lie every day, and it is (sometimes) the right thing to do. Example: About ten years ago, I was employed by one of the three lettered agencies, and was documenting a murder solicitation by this dude who wanted to have his wife killed. During one of the meetings he asked me on video if I was a cop. I said "Fuck no, I'm not a cop, are you?" I lied, and it was the right thing to do. Now extrapolate that and place it in a global, foreign policy, counterterrorism environment. Given the stakes of 9/11 or some sort of bioterror event, is it ok to lie? _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

I just printed out the article, and have not seen the movie either, but I give mad props to Hitchens. He was on staff at The Nation, and was fired for having the courage of his convictions, is an avowed confrontationist yet has no agenda, was/is a rabid and fearless progressive commentator . But he had some sort of epiphany about 10 years ago, and completely challenged and changed his views on foreign policy, counterterrorism, humanity, etc. I have not read his Mother Theresa bit, but I have read a lot of his work, and I have learned a lot from the guy. He is one of the few journalists who has actually inspired me to try and be a better American. MM is not. He's a punk with an agenda. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Is shooting down a civilian plane legitimate?

Yes, I re-read your post and it's still bullshit. You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
Is shooting down a civilian plane legitimate?

You want reality? Ok, here it is. You are wrong on all counts. I know exactly what the percentages are (as of yesterday), and you are wrong. Hell, you don't even know how to spell Air Marshals correctly. You state your opinion like you are some sort of subject matter expert, and you are not. Your just another misinformed Monday morning quarterback. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
Is shooting down a civilian plane legitimate?
gmanpilot replied to nigel99's topic in Speakers Corner
First you said: Then you said: Holy halibut fishman!, you hooked yourself. And FWIW, the percentage is higher than that, and it is growing steadily. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
Is shooting down a civilian plane legitimate?

Yes, wtf are you talking about?? There are hundreds of armed pilots (FFDO's) flying every day. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
Is shooting down a civilian plane legitimate?
gmanpilot replied to nigel99's topic in Speakers Corner
We do have armed pilots, they are called Federal flight Deck Officers, they are commercial pilots who work for the airlines and they will be deployed on more than 20,000 flights this month alone. If congress did not agree, how did the Arming Pilots Against Terrorist Act get passed? It established the FFDO program at the overwhelming behest of the American public. The TSA and the commercial airlines are the ones who did not want the program, not congress. So your misguided contention that congress does not think that arming pilots serves as a deterrent is not based upon evidence or fact. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -

Is shooting down a civilian plane legitimate?

I don't think anyone has suggested that pilots should handle a hostage/terrorist situation. Their job is to fly the plane. The only reason a pilot should be armed in flight, is as a last line of defense to kill the bad guy when he breaches the flight deck door, period. I don't have a problem with it. Besides, after the pilot squawks 7500 (Hijacking) on the transponder, he will be joined by F-16's in short order. If he deviates from his flight plan......game over. If he does not respond to the commands of the F-16's......game over. In general, I think authorizing the proper training and arming of pilots in flight and on the flight deck only makes sense from a deterrence standpoint, and as a quasi force multiplier. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
I have said too many to list, but the worst I ever heard was when a couple of my co-workers drove to lunch together. When the passenger got in the car, the seat belt adjustment thing had been moved and was really stretched out. Passenger: "Holy shit, what fat motherfucker was sitting here?" Driver: "My wife." No recovering from that. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

I've seen them with Steve Earle (one of the best songwriters to ever pick up a pencil) at the Opry in Nashville. They are great....unblemished Americana and pure bluegrass. I grew up in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, and This Mountain really does remind me of home. I have lived without broadcast or cable TV for the past year, and I don't really miss it. I can say that when I do see the news, it's kind of irratating. It is more sensationalist entertainment than news, IMHO. The papers are a little better, but not much. I figure if it's really important, someone will tell me about it, and then I'll read about it myself. TV basically sucks I guess. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

A flight with the TopGun adversaries - Mach 1 and multiple G's

Wow, what an opportunuty, and to think I get all giddy flying my little Grumman Tiger. If I had that chance, every time I walked out to my ride, I would be thinking, am I the luckiest guy on the planet or what? Congratulations on getting where you are. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
I would go talk to your investigative agency of choice. I have worked a few murder solicitation cases that began just like you describe. The lady's kids do not have to actually make the attempt. If they discuss it and take any action at all toward that end (like making a down payment to a supposed trigger man) and they get it on tape or video.....they are hosed. I the mean time, .........check your six. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.
