  1. so they happened to be at the same event. her actions and his are two very separate issues. Jane Fonda did some awful things in her protest of the war. I have many issues with her behavior in this area. John Kerry was not a participant in any of Fonda's escapades. He was a veteran protesting a war that he, and many others, still view as a war that shouldn't have happened. Its an opinion, and there's nothing wrong with that opinion. Either you believe we should have been in nam, or you believe we shouldn't have been in nam. They're opinions, and he's still allowed to hold the same opinion today. Because he's a veteran of that war, I'd say he has a lot more right to his opinion of it than most of us. He was against it, but he went, he fought, and he did his duty as his country asked it of him, and I believe that says a lot for his character.
  2. they can be illegal EVEN IF they sell stuff. It depends on whether they are encouraging consumers outside the pyramid to buy stuff, or if they pretty much just recruit others to join the pyramid. http://www.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/da/pyramid.htm http://www.commerce.state.ut.us/dcp/education/pyramid.html

  4. well, my friend Kody told me that "I never wanted kids, but now, I couldn't imagine life any other way, and I couldn't love Alexandra and her mother more." His daughter, Alex, is two, and already breaking hearts with her smile. it really does depend on the individual, though.
  5. sounds like a pyramid scheme, and its illegal. do not get involved, and warn your friend away.
  6. gotta admit, Kerry had been over there, fought, and knew exactly what he was protesting against.

  11. if we don't go to the first one, can we still go to the others? I'd love to go, but I'm moving this weekend and have no cash because I'm renting a U-haul and then taking all my friends who are helping out for a steak dinner.
  12. what's the deadline on this?? I already donate to both March of Dimes and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital fairly regularly, although I don't have any extra cash to send at the moment. I will in about three weeks, though, so let me know if I can still donate then.
  13. awww... thanks for sharing! Congrats!!!!!
  14. of course that's an option, but because evidence indicating there was either a second or different participant was not permitted in the trial, it casts the guilt of the convicted party into doubt and indicates that he did not receive a fair trial.

  18. The rundown on my screenname: Its a nickname given to me by a close friend. He was American Indian, so I kind of think of it as my Indian name... here's the story: When I was about twelve or so, I was visiting my friend John, and somehow ended up teaching his grandfather a few Irish songs, and he taught me a few of his songs, and so on. I knealt on the floor and his grandfather sat in a chair and we traded tunes for quite some time, passing a guitar back and forth, unaware that my friend and his parents were listening outside the doorway. He declared that I sang like a Nightingale, and the nickname stuck. Nobody in his family has referred to me by my given name since. His grandfather died a few years later, when I was fifteen. Funny thing is, I don't think I ever knew his real name now that I think back on it. All the kids just called him "Grandpa" cause he was kinda grandfather to all of us neighborhood kids in some way. He always either called me Nightingale or "Little Bird." I'd come over to visit with John and Grandpa would say "Come here, Little Bird. I hear you've got a new song for me." And he'd hand me the guitar and I'd sing it for him. He was a great friend...I miss him. He really helped give me a lot of confidence in myself and my music. The name "Nightingale" is very much a part of me because of him.
  19. OMFG!!! That's my favorite musical EVER!!! I'm jealous!!!!
  20. what we're saying is that there is a correlation between the two. what's happening in south africa is paralleling what happened here in the 1980s. Government denying that HIV is a problem. What happened in the US in the 80s should not be allowed to happen in South Africa. The public needs to be educated about the causes and effects of HIV, not deceived by a government hiding its head in the sand.
