I've had some relationships that I've looked back on and asked myself "WTF was I thinking?!" However, each one of those relationships was a learning experience for me, helping me understand what I wanted out of a relationship and what I didn't want. We wouldn't be "at peace" if we could erase some events in our life. We'd never learn anything if we got rid of unpleasantness and pain. If we couldn't remember making mistakes, we'd just make them all over again.

I enjoy shooting for the same reasons I enjoy karate. It's fun, good exercise, and as well as being fun and good exercise, might save your life. The problem with outlawing guns is that only the law abiding citizens (who wouldn't be shooting up convenience stores anyway) will follow the laws. By promoting gun banning, all you're doing is promoting the idea of taking weapons away from people who might legitimately need to defend themselves, while leaving the criminals just as armed and dangerous as ever. Personally, I like the idea of citizens being armed to even things out. The only advantage that gun banning has is the advantage given to the criminals in making it easier to victimize others.

Doing something you're good at brings pretty much anyone a sense of satisfaction.

Have you payed off your college loans?
Nightingale replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
Graduated college in 1999. I've paid the interest on my student loans, but that's it, mainly because I'm still in school. -
Homework poll: How do you cope with S-T-R-E-S-S???
Nightingale replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
My doctor, who knows me pretty well, advises me to stay active and make time for stuff that I need to do to keep my stress level down. Right now it's skydiving, karate, and guitar lessons (well, skydiving and karate have been out for the last month or so due to sprained ankle). I used to do Irish dance and karate, but then I was busy every weeknight, which didn't leave much time for a social life, which is also important, so I dropped dance for the time being, and just kept karate as my main physical activity. Just going to the gym doesn't work for me, because I hate exercise. I have to do something fun to forget that I'm exercising. I try to take care of myself, but it doesn't always work. I lost 20 pounds this semester just from stress, because when I get really stressed, I get headaches and stomach aches and can't eat more than a few bites or it'll just come right back up, so I'll just nibble a little bit throughout the day. It gets to the point where I'll eat whatever looks good regardless of whether it's good for me, just because it'll get a few more calories into my system and if it tastes good I'm likely to eat a bit more of it. Eating right is really important, because if I start out a stressful time and have been eating right and exercising, I can handle the stress a lot better and not get the stomach aches or headaches as much. My mom's quote of the semester: "Just because it's called 'carrot cake' does not make it a vegetable, and hostess cherry pies do not qualify as fruit." -
Talk to your doctor. Insomnia is a common problem, and doctors are used to helping patients deal with it. I usually only get insomnia during finals, and benadryl or chlortrimeton or nyquil works fine for me, but everyone's situation is different. You need to figure out what's causing your insomnia, whether it's a physical problem, stress related, or whatever, and then you can come up with the right treatment. Sometimes it's medication, sometimes OTC stuff, sometimes counseling. Work with your doctor to find what the right treatment for you is.

No, I don't consider flag burning to be an attack on all Americans, burning the Bible to be an attack on all Christians, burning the Torah an attack on all Jews, or burning "Of Mice and Men" to be an attack on Steinbeck (more like a protest against the high school English curriculum). However, the only thing I'd consider taking a match to would be the last on that list. The remainder represent a people's way of life, and people with issues against those need to address them, not torch them. Flag burning is pretty childish, IMO. While I wouldn't stop someone else from burning a flag in protest, I'd leave the country before I'd burn one myself. If the US ever disappoints me that much, better to be somewhere else than to burn a symbol that means a lot to someone else.

If you're thinking about whether or not the windows are open, you're doing it wrong.

For the last two weeks, when I was taking finals, I ended up taking allergy medicine (benadryl or chlor-trimeton) some nights just so I could sleep. When I get stressed, I end up staring at the ceiling all night, and then I get more stressed because I'm tired. I hate insomnia!

No plans for summer in the legal field. It's damn impossible around here for a 1L to find a paying job, and I can't afford to work for free. Gotta pay the rent. I'll probably work as an office temp, and ask the agency to funnel any law office type jobs my way. -

I can come play again as soon as my sprained ankle is better. Doctor says first week of june unless you do something stupid and hurt it again. Playing in the tunnel is fine, tho. I can fly with the sprain, I just can't land on it (mainly because my landings suck anyway! LOL) -

Took the last final exam this morning. I'd say that I was going to party tonight, because I feel like I should, but I'm too damn tired. LOL. -
I will only go to vegas when the hotel has a non-smoking room available as well as a non-smoking casino. Most hotels have them now. It sucks when you're on a winning streak at blackjack and have to walk away because someone sat down next to you with a cigarette.

There's some great fishing in Yellowstone by the Roosevelt Lodge. Roosevelt is one of my favorite places in Yellowstone, probably because it's the most remote facility you can drive to. It's nice just sitting on the porch and watching the sunset. damn...I need to go back there. It's been a few years.

Cool! I signed up here for the iBook, but they have iPods and all kinds of other gizmos too. My brother got an iPod from here a while back. The Free Project

When I was in Ireland about two years ago, I was sitting by the window of a pub in Dublin watching the snow fall outside, listening to traditional music, working on my second pint of guinness. At that moment, I realized it was the first time I had truly relaxed in years. And honestly, I can't remember a time since then. in 9 days, I'll be in Hawaii. Hopefully I can remember how to relax while I'm there. Right now, however, I'm in the middle of law school finals. My stress level is through the roof, especially since I can't skydive or go to karate or dance class right now because of a sprained ankle. All my normal stress relief activities are usually athletic and physical, and my ankle won't take the strain of a bad landing or a good side kick right now, and dancing on it just ain't gonna happen. I think that after my last final, I may just lock myself in my apartment for a few days, take the phone off the hook and just take some time for myself. Maybe that'll help. I don't know. sigh. I should probably get back to cursing at my textbooks...um...I mean studying...yeah...studying...that's the right word...

I wouldn't have any problem at all with a smoking room, so long as it is very separate from the non-smoking area (someone who works in a building shouldn't be forced to have a desk right next to that room because they'd probably get a lot of second hand smoke). I don't care if people smoke. I care that I have to breathe it. If I don't have to breathe it, I don't give a damn where people smoke.
-
I wouldn't mind so much with regards to smoking on sidewalks, if people didn't do it two steps outside the building so you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter or exit.

I thought of that... however, the problem is that the program I take my final exams on requires a windows platform. So, I'm stuck with windows on the laptop for at least another 2 years. after that... format c:

I refused to get my driver's license til my dad taught me how to change a tire and how to change the oil. I once got a flat tire on a day where the temperature was over 100 degrees, made it off the freeway and to the side of the road. Called AAA. They said they'd be out in 2 hours, and that I wasn't priority because I was in a "safe" place. standing for 2 hours with no shade and no water or sitting in a hot car in the sun is safe?? I changed the damn tire myself.

Mac. I got one a few months ago. I will never buy another PC, ever again. I'm saving up all my spare cash so I can get an iBook for school next year. Right now, I've got a toshiba laptop and when I get to school and have to use it, I think "damn...I gotta put up with windows again" There's a reason that PCs have users and Macs have evangelists. iPod...the gateway drug.
