He's talking about internships. Employers can't legally benefit from the work done by an intern. Owned by Remi #?

Should the AAD activation altitude be raised to 1250 feet?
labrys replied to JohnSherman's topic in Gear and Rigging
I didn't answer either. I don't have enough knowledge about whether or not any changes to modern gear have made the gear statistically more reliable enough to justify changing the TSO requirements and raise the activation altitude. Owned by Remi #? -
why disconnect the RSL prior to main cutaway in a side-by-side?

I think you're just being deliberately obtuse at this point. Team sports involve more than the actual game. Teams travel together, share rooms on the road, socialize with each other, they know each others SO's. Owned by Remi #?

Most people would have a problem with one guy picking up a rifle and shooting another guy in the head, wouldn't they? Yet we sanction this behavior in some cases and even glorify it in others. What is a " group of neighbors banding together and slaughtering their rivals across the street" in other words? We also call it "war" Some people with equally as strong feelings about religion and god as you appear to have, find war and capital punishment unacceptable, immoral, and "abhorrent". I wonder how you feel about those things and what your argument to them would be if you do believe that one guy shooting another guy in the head is okay as long as it's politically sanctioned. I would argue that the capacity for killing is perfectly natural and that it's the intent to harm others out of rage or to obtain food or territory that are not necessary for survival that are the things that are abhorrent. In my mind, it's a great idea. The company doesn't incur the cost or hassle of hiring someone and then discovering they don't fit in or can't do their job properly. Some people who might never be hired because they actually told the truth on their resumes or in their interviews about not being certified to do something, but feel they can actually perform well might be given a chance they would otherwise never get. We hire marketing interns where I work and it's much the same thing. They do get a small stipend but they also get time off if they want to go to a job interview. Some have been hired here, some have moved on with marketing experience they didn't have before. It's purely voluntary, so what's the problem? Owned by Remi #?

Who is this "we" you refer to? That which happens in nature, happens in nature. I may not like the outcome, but I can certainly acknowledge that genetic mutations occur, winds blow down houses, floods kill animals, fire burn, and animal kill each other. I don't find any of those things "wrong" or "abhorrent". They are simply nature. Owned by Remi #?

Oh dear god the "lifestyle" argument. What is it about my lifestyle that you disagree with? Do I get to work too late every day? Do I lane change without signalling? Is it that I lick my fingers when I'm sharing a bowl of popcorn with another person? Do you not care for my choice to wear jeans and t-shirts a lot? Do you think I should date more often? WTF is it? Why do we need to have an American rodeo groups? Or State rodeos? Or Collegiate rodeos? Or Christian rodeos? Or Women's rodeos? Or African American rodeos? Or Native Indian rodeos? Or Senior rodeos? Or Armed Forces rodeos? Jeez, even the Canadians have rodeos. Owned by Remi #?

I'm sure those groups exist as well. It's not rocket science to me. Gays have been "unwelcome" in this society for a very, very long time. Are you really that surprised to find out that we've formed parallel sub-groups and sub-cultures? Now that society is (only very recently, relatively speaking) becoming a bit more understanding do you expect all the sub-culture to evaporate over night? Gays haven't, with a few exceptions, formed "gay home brewing" groups to single themselves out or highlight their differences. Gays have been living in a different world for a long time and the natural things people do, like form home brewing groups, happen withing that microcosm just like they happen in the hetero world. Now that society is a bit more forgiving, some of the gay groups that have been around forever are kind of "coming out" of hiding and saying "Oh, Hey!" We're the gay home brewing group!!! And then someone says WTF, why do you have to set yourselves up in your stupid gay home brewing club? Why do you have to be "special"? Gee-zuz christ. Owned by Remi #?

Which is, I believe, what happens to the average person. I have suspicions about the folks who insist that sexuality involves only choice, and the suspicions are that many of them made what they considered to be a "moral" choice to suppress the sexuality that came naturally to them and live a miserably frustrated life. I've known many naturally homosexual people who have chosen to live heterosexual lives for a time, but none of them chose to be homosexual. None of them were happy people at the time. I know bisexuals who almost always choose homosexual relationships and some who almost always choose heterosexual relationships. I don't know anyone who ever claimed to choose to be bisexual. Really? Apparently, you only recently found about about gay rodeo. That doesn't mean it didn't exist until you were aware of it. Owned by Remi #?

But I should admit that in spite of the relatively large piles of Nanos, Zunes, Zens, Shuffles, Clips, etc. That I have to chose from, I almost always pick up my iPod Touch. It's by far the most versatile mp3 player I have. Owned by Remi #?

Zunes are in the same price range as iPods. I've kind of made it a hobby to collect mp3 players and I've found that they fall into the very same "you get what you pay for" category as most other stuff. That said, if I was to pick the cheapest thing I've tried that crossed the line best it would be the 4GB Sansa Clip It was 25 percent of the coat of a 4GB Shuffle, had a visual display the Shuffle didn't have, took 4 times longer to get drivers working smoothly, but lasted twice as long banging around, getting dropped, etc. Owned by Remi #?

True. I have a couple of Bridge Day jumps I didn't think mattered WRT this thread. The lowest pull I mentioned above was because I had made 2 attempts to locate my hackey, failed, and then decided to try one more time before going for my reserve. It was a very conscious decision. I made my second try at 2200 and felt it was worth a third at that altitude. Owned by Remi #?

should it require conscious effort to get a stable arch?
labrys replied to mixedup's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's probably similar to learning to stand on one foot or ride a bike when you're little. The first couple of times you do it it requires a focused effort. Once you're accustomed to doing it, it's still taking the same amount of effort but you're not required to focus on it any more. Owned by Remi #? -

I was doing a "Simon Says" jump with an almost licensed student. I did a center point turn and he grabbed my foot as it went by, pulling my brand new, just bought 'em that day, NB tennis show off. The panicky look on his face was priceless when I finished the turn and he was staring at my shoe in his hand unable to process WTF he should do. I took it away from him and we continued on with the jump. Owned by Remi #?

How is that possible? Owned by Remi #?

Not me personally, but I think it's helpful to remind newly licensed folks that they need to think about some of the things they've been relying on instructors and coaches and student guidelines for during training. For example: If there's a need for an emergency exit, which canopy are you going to chose and when (and why). What's your decision altitude? What's your wind limit? How do you find out what the uppers are before you board the plane? How much exit separation do you need to give the group ahead of you (and why) I know these are things a newly licensed person should already know, but having a reminder that they are now solely responsible for knowing these kinds of things and no longer have someone watching their backs, at least officially.
