  1. I had to think of this... http://www.vice.com/read/silent-but-deadly-school-cops-arrest-students-for-talking-too-loud-graffiti-andfarting More common sense from across the pond...
  2. So you want to stifle free enterprise in one part of the economy, yet encourage it another. Lets face it, you basically want socialist wealth redistribution.
  3. I agree with you that corporations use their power(money) for their own purposes. It is wrong however that GE paid no taxes http://www.factcheck.org/2012/04/warren-ge-pays-no-taxes/ More fairness in this aspect is definitely needed though. One needs to control lobbying and the influence of money on politics. i.e. Restricting capitalism. Further, how do you think the little man is going to compete with a company like GE? Or any industry that requires millions of $ in investment and R+D? Large companies are needed for our comfortable affordable lifestyle. Don't forget they are the job creators... One reason for the large subsidies. Corporations will always exploit their power in order to achieve an advantage. Legislature has to passed to contain that power... which is according to the definition of a lot of people on this forum socialism...
  4. Now you want handouts in the form of $250.000 reports. Why doesn’t average Joe just take a bit of personal responsibility? Or the middle class for that matter? You do realize that in order to break the rule of the corporations you have implement some form of socialist legislature? What you are describing is simply the consequence of unbridled capitalism. How does your head not explode at the cognitive dissonance?
  5. Germans tend to distrust their Government quite a bit. Hell, if we are fed up we just found a party that questions the establishment. Like it happened in the 80s with the green party or very recently with the pirate party. I could give other countless examples. Now if you want to talk about our lacking freedom, we don't have secret courts with secret rulings, we don't have companies with gag orders in how they are helping the Government spy on their customers. We don't detain people indefinitely without due process. Our Government does not read all our emails or record all transaction data. Your Government does it for us ;-) We can even own guns, it's just not that you can buy them at Walmart. So who's Government is the more omnipresent entity ? You didn't demonstrate any differences, you just regurgitated a fact less, bullshit opinion. My gosh you wouldn't believe that the German press are professionals with all major outlets having at least one press office in the US. You can bet they do more than listen to Rush Limbaugh or watch The Daily Show.
  6. This is how the German press sees the Government shutdown. Now they are per definition non partisan. http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/german-press-review-on-us-government-shutdown-a-925768.html#ref=nl-international You wacky Americans...
  7. Wow, your irony detector is way off today. Without spelling it out for idiots, that's what I was essentially trying to say. I digress, I will try to make the tone of my posts more fitting for their audience. Now to explain: I was trying to make light of OHCHUTE's simple solution to world hunger by offering an equally simple solution to homelessness. Do you think "OMG people" is a serious statement?
  8. Who is going to pay for collecting and distributing the food? Who is going to decide who receives free food? Are mandatory drug tests necessary to receive free food? Also there are enough empty houses in the US to house every homeless person, why not them live there? It's all so simple... OMG people.
  9. Once again Dunning-Krueger rears it's ugly head. You do realize that the current labor situation is due to government mandated nearly unbridled capitalism? Loose labor laws are hardly enforced by a corrupt government where nepotism is rampant. You are right that average citizen does not enjoy "freedom" as you classically describe it. Yet large corporations, sometimes state owned or co-owned enjoy immense freedom at the expense of it's workers... Sorry you failed China 101.
  10. The Irony is, that this is coming from you, who wants a small government and deregulation. The very effects of this is clearly demonstrated by your article. How you manage to make the mental gymnastics to on one hand call for small government and deregulation on the other hand criticizing the very outcome of those policies will forever remain your secret.

  13. http://benswann.com/feds-spend-2-2-million-studying-why-lesbians-are-overweight/ I honestly don't know what to think... On the one hand any scientific information is interesting on the other hand this money could go to more important things...
  14. I think in decent society GZ wouldn't have had any grounds to approach TM in the first place. He was following TM because he was suspect, out of place. I don't want speculate about what finally caused his act self defense or if it was justified. I think the whole thing could have been prevented if GZ had waited for the cops instead approaching TM with some sort of wild west vigilante attitude.
  15. Walking with Skittles and Ice-Tea, looking out of place, damn near suicidal Treyvon was.
  16. Those are both legal drugs, methadone is a heroine substitute used for addiction therapy. Xanax is a prescription anti anxiety medicine.
  17. What happened to personal responsibility? Now you want to make government agents responsible for the personal choices of a mother? In any case I agree with you on accountability. I don't know the specifics of CPS but we had several cases severe child neglect in Germany. Children starved to death and the "Jugendamt" the equivalent of CPS was ridiculed. It was found to be terribly underfunded and understaffed. I guess where agencies are underfunded and understaffed mistakes will happen. Clearly the system is broken and thats where you have start improvement.
  18. If you want to know why a forest is dying, you have to look at the trees. You will also always have a limited understanding of any forest you see...
  19. I think that is a very honest description. I'm also glad you turned your life around by whatever means... Chances are we wouldn't have this discussion if it was otherwise. I think thats oversimplifying the issue...
  20. Somebody just diagnosed half the nation with a psychological issue and I'm trying to find the fault in his thinking... God forbid... And no I accept a persons beliefs but I can not be forced to respect them. People are free to believe whatever they want, just as I am free to believe that they are deluded...
  21. Isn't one part of the whole process accepting that you have no power over your own addiction? Don't get me wrong I'm trying to understand the rational.
