  1. You're right of course, but it's probably not as bad as that. If his parents owned a DZ, the other 14 were probably all JM/I's or at least highly experienced jumpers, and they most likely put him in the base and literally built the formation around him, or maybe even held onto him and moved him into place and then let him pull in the center while everyone else tracked away. Not necessarily the brightest idea, but not *too* dangerous as long as the proper controls are established.

    Lil Help guys!!!

Just so you all know, Jaime's boyfriend Gregg hurt himself making a low turn under canopy at Gladewater. According to what Jaime told me, he broke a femur, cracked his pelvis, and also cracked a vertabrae, so he won't be jumping for a while.
  4. Ummmm.... Do you really want to be wearing a jumpsuit FFF's been in? You never know who he was rubbing, or what with in those things.

That's the worst thing that could happen? Sounds like one of the good ones to me.

    DC Area DZ's

I've never been to either one, but from what I've hear other people tell me, West Point is primarily RW and Orange is primarily freefly (which explains the nakedness ). Not to say nobody freefly's at West Point, or there is no RW at Orange, just that's what is most common. Both fly Otters. I've been to Skydive Virginia (Lousia) and it's a fairly small, close knit, friendly DZ. I've only been there once, and I ended up doing a 4-way and 3 9-ways, so I was able to find quite a few people to jump with. They fly a king air. Suffolk is my home DZ, so I'm a bit partial to it. We're a bit bigger than Louisa, and have a few more facilities. Lots of fun people to jump with. We're also one of the test beds for the new ISP, so that might interest someone who's on student status. We jump a King Air, plus we have a Casa down about once a month during the Summer. On the down side, it's at about a 3-hour drive from D.C., which is further than any of the others you mentioned.

    Now I have to!

I have a friend/mentor who told me this the other day when I was telling him I thought his landing style was a bit dangerous (he was swooping in with one leg pointed straight out and the other tucked back, much like a baseball slide). My reply was 'yeah, pain is temporary, but it means you won't be able to skydive for a month or 2 if you break your ankle' I think *that* gave him pause to think about it.
  9. Actually, *cough, cough* I've never jumped at Skydive Orange, and there-in lies the story... To make a long story short, I spent a whole day jumping in Louisa thinking I was at Skydive Orange when in fact I was at Skydive Virginia. It really never registered with me until I got home and looked at the T-Shirt and then checked out the USPA dropzone list.
  10. I had to repeat my Level 1 because I tumbled out the door for 5000' or so, then I mind-locked and forgot to pull on the bottom end. No repeats after that though.

Hmmm.... Now that you mention it No, seriously I'm thinking more about the psychological effects of testosterone (aka, being a guy) than any physical effects. I think guys have more of a tendency to want to impress people watching them land. Sort of a cro-magnon, macho thing. They see other guys swooping and think it looks really cool, so they just *have* to do it themselves. Most women seem to be a little more rational about it.
  12. Hiya Kev. I see you're from Philly. Does that mean you're going to be jumping at Cross Keys? If so, say hi to Kelly and Stacy and Fruce and all those other freaky people up there when you go.

Wow... 4 digit A-number. You must have started skydiving when you were about 6 or so, huh?

One word... testosterone We have one girl at our Dropzone who can outswoop most, if not all of the guys, but she's one of the few I've ever seen.
  15. Ack! Please no more yellow. Yellow sucks. I had to get about an inch away from the screen to read it (which I did... you never know when it'll have good juicy stuff in there). As for the nakie pics of Wingie and Frank (and a few others?, I forget), I think most of here (including Wingie and Frank) are glad they've dropped off the face of the Earth.

Congrats! Now get out there and make some skydives.
  17. I agree with you completely here. I doubt you'd find many sane people who would disagree. Personally, I believe jumpers should stay around 1:1 on their first canopy off student status, but your milage may vary. I think these make good canopies for a beginner, but I really don't agree with the way it's presented. You compare the flight characteristics of the Tri/Diablo to that of the Extreme-VX/FX as if there's nothing in between, when in fact there are dozens of steps between these 2 choices. There are 7 and 9-cell F-111 PD canopies, lightly elliptical 7-cells like the Omega or the Spectre, and there are 'square' conservative ZP 9-cell canopies like the Hornet that make good low-timer canopies. The Tri is probably a *bit* more conservative than these choices, but they're still (my opinion) safe enough for a first canopy.
  18. Damn PT, you just made my day. I almost forgot the state of Virginia should be sending me about $150 pretty soon!
  19. OMG... That's definitely the ultimate DZ.com sin. Your account will be banned within the hour ...or at the very least you'll probably owe the bossman a case next time you see him at a boogie. Seriously though, I seem to remember seeing Sangiro's pic on some of the old threads. And I think he even had a live cam at his house once upon a time. I think he just chooses not to use a pic so he can remain an anonymous God-like figure.

    Workday musings

Well, from my point of view, any attractive girl with any guy other than myself is with the wrong guy. I'm pretty sure I share that view with 99.99999% or so of the single male population on this planet.

    Airline Update

Sorry to hear that Zennie. I'll send some flowers to your Widow after you die of boredom. And I'd definitely try and do the SDD thing. Definitely a nice drop zone from what I saw when I was there. Just make sure you have a good map to the place and a rental car, 'cause it's a pretty good ways from Dallas.

Probably. Just make sure you put the right rig on. Me too I'd have to say yes. Of course I'm a bit biased.

    Tattoo Design!!

Damn, wtf's going on Pammi? Is Merrick laying down on the job again?
  24. Hmm... I honestly can't remember the specifics, but lots of name-calling and such. Just go read a few articles on rec.skydiving and it'll give you a good idea.

Hmm. Actually I found one. It's at http://www.fusso.com/icarus/nest.htm Might not be what you're looking for, but maybe it'll give you something to work with.
