When you say you're stowing it, you mean it's a collapsable slider and you're collapsing it? I know there are a couple of different types. The most common type has 1 or 2 lines running through the slider. When you pull on the lines, they come out of the slider until it reaches a turn-back sewn into the lines. That's what keeps the slider stowed, so if you're not pulling the lines through far enough it may come unstowed. The other type involves wrapping velcro around the slider to keep it collapsed. I've never jumped one of those, but I imagine the velcro wears out on it like everything else, so that could make it come unstowed. I would say the best bet is to have a JM/rigger take a look at it on the ground. The you can show them what you're doing and they can figure out why it's coming unstowed.

Hot damn! It's about time you were able to get that jump in. I just wish I could have been up there to see it! You'll get better at skydiving, but there's probably no better skydive than the first one Oh, and what sort of crazy stuff is Stacy telling you? I can just imagine: beer for the first AFF jump, first jump out of a King Air, first jump wearing an altimeter, first PLF, first jump on a Monday ... there's no telling what her devious mind could come up with
-
Sorry to hear you couldn't jump Dave. I know it stinks, but just remember - it's better to miss a weekend than to jump in winds that are too high, get hurt, and not be able to jump for several weeks/months. I had to learn this the hard way
-
Surprisingly no. I think night jumps would be a different story. Really the only problem I have with the depth perception is lining up for final. I tend to either come in short or overshoot because I have a hard time judging the distance to my target. Other sports are a little different though. I don't even think about playing pool or basketball without glasses on.

Nah, have fun with it. I think it took me 10 tries or so to get it right. Just a tip though. If you resize your image to 65x75 pixels, that'll keep it from being 'smooshed' (a highly technical web term) since that's the size it displays at.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing Frank.

Hey Tee, that's a pretty good deal. I'd have to do it in the Summer though. I'd just be curious to know what the wait time for that procedure would be (I've heard there's a pretty long wait time for medical care in Canada?) Also, how do they feel about treating non-citizens? After all, you guys pay higher taxes for that cheap medical care. How do they feel about Americans coming up and taking advantage of it? I've got one bad eye I'd love to have fixed. It's around 20/80 or so. Not bad enough I have to wear glasses most of the time (since I have nearly normal vision in the other eye). The only problem is that does reduce my depth perception a bit.

24th-25th actually Sis. Unless you're planning to jump on Thursday and Friday and then leave before the weekend. I'll let you know once the tickets are finalized. I'm looking forward to meeting up with you and Jaime. It's always nice to be able to put a face to the chat handle.
-
Grats Jaime. I'm glad to know you'll be a little safer up there in the skies thanks to some people who did you wrong.

I saw this on the travel channel. It was actually the main that was deployed. The cameraman flew over and 'tackled' the 2 spinning jumpers, then unwrapped the drogue bridle and pulled the drogue release.

I couldn't agree more Lisa. We had a fellow visit our DZ earlier this year from a so-called Tandem factory (DZ name withheld under Freaksis's advice). He told us some fairly sad things, like when he hit his 100th jump, they just said 'Hey, that's great' and that was it. Nobody got excited, no pies, or anything like that. Also, he got bumped from planes sometimes for the tandems, and had a hard time finding someone to do any RW with.

Actually, I believe that the 300mph figure is the fastest speed for a jump that started below 15,000' I think I remember reading that the current altitude record holder (Kittinger?) clocked in at around 650mph on his belly, which was just under the speed of sound. I know on Cheryl Stearns' web page it said she was actually supposed to break the speed of sound if everything went according to plan on her upcoming jump.

That's pretty funny. You at least have one more birthday to look forward to (21). If you're like me, you'll probably quit drinking after you hit 21. I'm actually a bit older than that if you can believe it. You're probably young enough to be able to tell, but I usually still get carded buying cigarettes (well I did until I quit a couple of months ago). Whew. For a second I thought you were going to get Stacy to show you how to pack. Try as she might, she just couldn't get her telekinetic powers going to pack that chute. I really wish there had been some AFF students there this weekend. They couldn't have helped but be confused by 4 people standing around a parachute and just staring at it. Blue skies! Grogs

Yeah, Happy Birthday Froggie! That sucks that the weather got crappy. I really wanted to come out and see you do your AFF jump. At least I got to meet you on Saturday. I'll be up there again and we can do a jump together (hurry up and get off student status)
-
Oh crap! My DZ's not on the list either. Good thing I'm going to Cross Keys to jump this weekend. Hey, I also didn't know that Skydive Orange is in Fischerville, VA (about 60 miles away). I got a good laugh about that one. Of course I thought it was in Louisa, so I can't make fun of them too much.
-
Well, GPS may make spotting a lot less important, but keep in mind: Somebody still has to determine where set the GPS. If you don't know the basics of spotting, you really won't know how.

That's ok Sis. $712 is pretty good actually. I know I'll have a pretty good refund because I really only worked the first 6 months of the year, so the % on the deductions was based for about twice the amount I actually made. And for you poor bastards that have to actually *pay* Uncle Sam, look on the bright side. You actually come out better in the long run. Uncle Sam will give you exactly ZERO interest on that extra money you paid. So even if you had it in a checking account getting 1% on it you come out better. Of course that still doesn't make it hurt any less to have to fork out all that money.
-
It's even funnier that he gave himself a great review and then only gave 1 star
-
OMG. That's pretty pathetic. Sounds like another good reason not to go to *cough, cough*

I started BOC. The closest I've ever come to a pulling a ripcord was pulling the reserve handle, which I did manage to hold onto. I did drop the cutaway though but fortunately it stuck to my jumpsuit
-
Thanks Sangiro. I disabled my Java to get around the problem, but it seems to be working fine with it enabled now. As quirky as Netscape is, I still try and avoid using IE for the simple reason Microsoft tries to force it down my throat.
-
LOL, When I pack a parachute for someone, I usually tell the guy that. I haven't packed a malfunction yet (except for my own) - (knock on wood) and I hope I never do, but if so I'll have no problem at all returning the $5.
-
I kind of like 'Higher' by Creed. It seems to describe being up in the clouds flying around pretty well. There's also some country song they played at our DZ one day about jumping out of Uncle Earl's Plane or something like that. It wasn't much of a song, but it was funny as hell. Pretty much the whuffo's version of what a skydive would be like.
-
I honestly don't think it makes much of a difference safety-wise. It's more a matter of what you're used to. My personal preference is BOC, but I'm biased because that's the only system I've ever used (except for S/L).
-
Hehe. Somebody actually said that to me the other day and I just looked at them and said: "Depends. How high's the bridge?"
