  1. Can't possibly be good for everybody...somebody loses in that scenario. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  2. Every American has the same opportunities (but different amounts of work to achieve the opportunity). You just contradicted yourself. Your statement is as absurd as saying two marathon runners have the same opportunity to win the race, except one of them has to carry a 100lb weight with him and the other can ride half-way in a car. You're statement is inherently flawed. You equate opportunity differently. Both have the opportunity. It would most definitely be more difficult for the 100# pack guy, but he is able to start the race. If he was somehow denied the chance to enter the race he would have no opportunity to win. That's the way I look at the opportunity statement. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  3. Right - that Lehman Bros. CEO who made, what, $22Million in bonuses last year has SUCH a tough life. So does the WaMu guy who made $18M for 3 weeks on the job. Maybe we should pass the hat around the homeless shelters to help them out. True. It sucks. But that was the deal they had. Stupid BOD and stockholders that agreed to it. I'm talking about the public. If you or I make over 250K we're no longer part of the equation. We become the government's mule. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  4. Hmmm. Nice job taking it out of context, fucker! The question of course, was how I got started skydiving. BWAAAHHAHAHAHA! Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  5. No, we are most certainly NOT. I disagree. -one of my friends is a 18year old mother of two African American that was orphaned at age 16. She is a sophmore in college. She is seizing the opportunity despite the challenges. So some people have challenges to overcome while others have their granddaddy buy their way into Yale as "legacy admits", and in your mind that's equal opportunity? Kids in suburban Illinois high schools have twice as much spent on their education as kids in inner city Chicago, and that's equal opportunity? More money = better education. Why am I not surprised by this? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  6. ..is alive and well. As long as you make less than 250K. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  7. They don't care or don't understand and never will. Start hanging more with your new jump friends. I started jumping with 4 friends (all brothers) so we pretty much never stopped talking skydive. Drove everyone around us nuts. In hindsight we became non-sociable if you weren't a jumper. Here's a pic of them from the early 80's at Parkman. Paul (bellywart) dropped out first. His new wife forbade it. Sean (nearest the camera) was next. Same wife problem. Tim (other white jumpsuit) made about 600 jumps before his new wife dropped the hammer. That left just Dan and I to continue. Still jump with him today
  8. In another life I was a cable installer. Many good stories. My best is I'm drilling from the outside near a picture window...drill bit pushes through...I see the curtains come down. Needless to say they weren't happy I worked with some real mensa candidates. One guy managed to get the cable caught on a guys car in the garage. Customer called and said the converter went flying across the room for no reason. Another genius decided it was safer to tie himself off to the car in the driveway while he was on the roof. That was bad. Customer's husband decided they needed milk and bread. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  9. Lately it seems like more companies are all about profit, regardless. Check out www.ripoffreport.com . You don't have to look very hard to find a business you know of or even have used. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  10. Turning points...crossroads...call it whatever you want. Everyone who stays in the sport for more than a couple of seasons will see something like this. For me, it took the shine off the penny for awhile. After a little bit it got better. WHen I started people told me "fear is replaced by knowledge". Later I learned that, with enough knowledge about the possibilities fear can creep back into the picture. It does get better. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

  12. I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible to be ethical and profitable in today's business climate. For the third time in as many years I'm dealing with operations that seem to be willing to sacrifice ethics for profit. And not just sometimes... I'm beginning to think maybe I should just go along and not worry about it, but I can't seem to stomach it. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

  16. I think until you've ridden it once you'll be aprehensive. Please don't let that thought into your mind when you're riding that spinner through the hard deck. On a related note: Anyone have any data on how many uneventful reserve rides there are every year? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  17. Wow! I didn't watch all of it...just the first minute or so was enough. Bon chance to my friends in the great white North. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  18. You've already made your feelings quite clear. I may not like Barry/Joe but I've never attacked their intelligence. Since I don't know who you are your point of reference on intelligence is questionable. There are several here whose viewpoints with respect to the level of someone's intelligence would have merit. I don't count you as one of them. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  19. OK...who do you feel created this mess? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  20. To lose what? We're free in every directon. We don't want our fellow citizens to be armed. I laughed when I read this. What do the schools in Germany teach you about WWII? JR, you really should take some time to travel abroad. It would widen your horizon. There are countries which work w/o armed population. Promised. As one who has travelled I'm always happy to get back home. Does it give me a broader view? Absolutley. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  21. Wow! Amazing! Two completely stupid people huh? I doubt many here would make statements like these regardless of which wing of the airplane they sit on. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  22. Let's just analyze this a second...from the article in Rolling Stone: "I enjoyed the off-duty life of a Navy flier more than I enjoyed the actual flying," McCain writes. "I drove a Corvette, dated a lot, spent all my free hours at bars and beach parties." McCain chased a lot of tail. He hit the dog track. Developed a taste for poker and dice. He picked up models when he could, screwed a stripper when he couldn't. I'm certain no one here can relate to anything like that In the years to come, McCain would continue to fight the war his father had lost. In his meetings with Nixon, Junior was known for chomping on an unlit cigar, complaining about the "goddamn gooks" and pushing to bomb enemy sanctuaries in Cambodia. His son was equally gung-ho. "John has always been a very bellicose hawk," says John H. Johns, a retired brigadier general who studied with McCain at the War College. "When he came back from Vietnam, he accused the liberal media of undermining national will, that we could have won in Vietnam if we had the national will." News flash. Why did we lose a war in which we never lost a battle? The divorce was finalized on April 2nd, 1980. McCain's second marriage — rung in at the Arizona Biltmore with Gary Hart as a groomsman — was consummated only six weeks later, on May 17th. The union gave McCain access to great wealth: Cindy, whose father was the exclusive distributor for Budweiser in the Phoenix area, is now worth an estimated $100 million. Hmmm...a marriage that's lasted 28 years. How terrible. My point? Obviously an objective article. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

  24. I'd venture to say there's alot of people who would have enjoyed being "shafted" the way UAW members are. Chicken or egg? The question still is did the workers get screwed or screw themselves? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
  25. Apples to oranges. How many cars were there in 1929? I'm certain there were about 25 manufacturers. That's not to say they aren't struggling. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
