Doctor’s salaries are not the culprit of exorbitant healthcare costs...many other factors are driving the costs, i.e. frivolous lawsuits and medical malpractice, uninsured people not paying for their treatment, etc. I take it you ARE aware of the estimated contribution of malpractice suits to healthcare costs They might not be a direct cost, but the threat of them forces everyone to run for cover. Malpractice insurers love that shit. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Do you have healthcare currently? What is your view on the bill?
airdvr replied to bluesilver30's topic in Speakers Corner
Agreed. Let's take my recent stay as an example. 2 days ICU, cath lab stent implant $54000.00 ($5500.00) deductible and Max out of pocket) $48,500 billed to my insurance company My insurance company paid roughly $17,000 to the provider(s). What happens to the rest? If you beleive these folks http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5216G320090302 they would have you believe hospitals aren't making any money. I'm assuming that what is left over becomes a loss on the books. But is it really a loss? I think it's by design so they can avoid a tax burden. Again...fix the root cause for why it's so expensive to see a doctor or go to a hospital and the rest takes care of itself. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -

I know it's the party line and you're required to say it, but do you really believe this shit? Do you really believe that a medical panel announcing their opinion that mammograms for women under 50 do more harm than good is the same as, "gov't has decided you don't need [a mammogram] until after age 50?" Not everything is a conspiracy by Obama to kill you and take your money. How can you be so sure? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -
A 65-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk. The Receptionist said, 'Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?' 'There's something wrong with my dick', he replied. The receptionist became irritated and said, 'You shouldn't come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that. ' 'Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you,' he said. The Receptionist replied; 'Now you've caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.' The man replied, 'You shouldn't ask people questions in a roomful of strangers, if the answer could embarrass anyone. The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered. The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, 'Yes??' 'There's something wrong with my ear,' he stated. The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice. 'And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?' 'I can't piss out of it,' he replied. The waiting room erupted in laughter. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Well, while we're placing blame and pointing fingers let's make sure we get some props in there for a Dem controlled congress that voted against the will of the people, voted for tax increases disguised as fees, voted to force individuals to purchase a private product, and did it all so transparently. And that is because the insurance companies have no incentive to bargain costs down because they just pass them along, and the healthcare consumer is insulated from the cost. A single payer system is the way to fix that problem. Why does a hospital charge $10 for an aspirin tablet? Because it can. Doesn't make any sense. My recent stay was a $54K bill. My insurance company paid something like $15-17K of it. If that's not knocking down the price I'm not sure what is? The hospital isn't coming after me for the difference. I paid my deductible and max out of pocket. So on a $54K bill everyone got 50%. Actually, some that sent their bill in early got more. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -

My problem is that I object to paying more for someone else's health care so that people who don't want to be required to can whine and moan about it. Or something like that. As long as we're not willing to let people die by the side of the road when they don't have insurance, we'll be paying for their health care. I'd rather do so as inexpensively as possible, rather than paying a premium. Wendy P. I think most of these people who are so vociferously bitching about this HC bill COMPLETELY forget about preventative care, which saves vast amounts of money by virtue of catching things before they become catastrophic...requiring vastly greater amounts of money to "fix" what could have been prevented in the first place I don't recall ever saying that reform wasn't needed in HC. Buit if you think this 2000+ page bill just fixed those things you are sadly mistaken. Let me make a prediction for you...requiring people who don't have insurance to buy insurance WILL NOT fix the problems. Guess what? Those folks won't buy it regardless, and you can impose penalties all day long, they don't pay taxes now so you can't 'enforce' it, and they won't get paid, and you won't get the expected response you would like. Nothing in this bill addresses the root cause of the problem...high costs of delivering the product. Until you address why it's so expensive to go to the doctor you have accomplished nothing. My question then is "where does it stop?" Today it's insurance, tomorrow it's conscripting for the military. 20 years from now it could be collectives. Where is the line drawn, or is there a line? How much should the governement be responsible for? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -

Some might have that perception of your operation. However, I think most people see this for what it really is; the staff didn't want to pay for insurance. I get that BTW. It's not cheap. But please don't require me to pay for insurance for people who don't want to inconvenience themselves. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -
I favor the Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest. If you are not intelligent enough to figure out your own healthcare system then your existence weakens the gene pool. Well, that is an issue for evolutionist as universal healthcare is contrary to survival of the fittest, except for the fact that gives them control to clean the gene pool! Remember, eugenics started here and the nazi's got there idea for mass extermination from us. I, however, am for freedom which also means that everyone is responsible for their own decisions and must live with the consiquences whether they are good or bad. Who are you, the polititians, or anyone else to decide what is right and best for me and my life? Its mine, not yours! I was garranteed freedom and who are they to take it away! I don't care of 100% voted for it, its unconstitutional and that is why we are a republic not a democracy! That is why we have a constitution! Thats why people like Representative Dingell said "it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people." TO CONTROL THE PEOPLE! What an admission! That is not what this country, the constitution, the government and freedom is about. Its not about controlling the people. The government was established to protect our freedoms so we could make our own decisions and live with them. The government was not established to protect us from our own decisions. How do they know if its better. Because I went without insurance for years I now own two homes! I would still be in a stinky little apartment had I not and if the risk didn't pay off and I got sick I am the only one responsible and I have to live with it! But it did and they don't want me to be able to make those kinds of decision that was actually better. How do they know what is "best" for everyone. They don't! The only think that is best for everyone is freedom! It makes healthcare more available and better than any other option. It makes everything more available and better than any other option but the reality is that people don't want to be responsible for themselve and don't want to deal with the consenquences of thier own decisions. So everyone must be punished so they don't have to live with thier mistakes. What do we call that today? Redistribution.....also known as communism! Shhh...you're not allowed to talk like that anymore. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

As soon as you get hurt or sick. Then it becomes everyone else's problem but yours. But that's the rub to the folks who oppose this version of HC reform. We know that society ultimately pays for those who can't or won't do it for themselves. We just don't like being told we're required to. It really is as simple as that for me. Take a good look at the mentally retarded population. In Ohio we pay taxes to care for them. You do as well in whatever state you live in. We understand they cannot fend for themselves. I have no problem with being required to contribute. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -
Let's try and maintain some perspective here. There are cranks on both sides of this debate and I think the Dems do a better job using the media to further this perception. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I find myself wondering lately how much of what we see, hear, and read is contrived to move public opinion. Example: Tea party. Wouldn't be difficult to stage some actions that shed a bad light on the entire movement. If I was a Dem a well grounded movement like the Tea Party would be a threat. My response could be to stage enough negatism to turn public opinion abainst them. Example: ACORN. Same scenario and actually proven. I just wonder sometimes... Please don't dent the planet. The company I work for used to have the tag line "building better for less". That changed a couple of years back to 'for all the right reasons' and coincided with a list of reasons. My limited marketing knowledge tells me to avoid statements that could be answered with 'well I hope so' The lasting for generations part is one of those. If you have to state the obvious it actually takes away from the message. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Man you guys chopped this all to hell. He has been talking off and on to a high ranking official of an insurance company who's plan it seems is to offer insurance to US citizens from a company based in Costa Rica. Coverage would include airfare to CR for doctor's visits and such. Never said he would leave the US, just go to CR for his covered items if that's what it comes to. Please don't dent the planet. BZZZZT wrong answer... I would just be happy if I got any health care after I have paid for it for 40+ years. The preexisting condition thing has cost me many thousands of dollars over the last few years. Personlly.. I would LOVE TO MEET THE MOTHERFUCKER WHO GOT THE BILLIONS IN BONUS at United HEALTH NON CARE I agree on the pre-existing issue. Did we need a 2600 page bill to deal with that?
