Are you asking if there was a disaster, the media made what happened into a disaster, or was there some nanothermite in the buildings that blew up. Yes. My opinon is that there was some concern early on, but the media is making a bigger deal out of it than what's really happening. Compare Fox to IAEA. That only works if I thought IAEA was a totally credible source. Please don't tell me that you think that Fox is a more credible source of information & news on nuclear power than the IAEA. They blatantly try and incite panic with the title of that article, trying to somehow link the soaring death toll due to the earthquake and tsunami to the problems at the nuclear plant. While I don't think this is a non-issue, there is no way this is or will be anything like Chernobyl unless something goes terribly wrong. No where in any of the IAEA updates does it say that any of the unit's containment vessels have been breached. The main reasons that Chernobyl was such a large disaster was that the explosion was enough to knock the top completely off allowing direct venting of the nuclear material into the atmosphere. Accident? Yes. Disaster? No. Right now the IAEA is getting it's info from the Japanese government. They have no real info of their own. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Probably, but that is only because my only other realistic option was McCain/Palin. I didn't vote for Obama solely because of his promise to close Gitmo, but it was one reason. I believe he truly planned to close Gitmo, and even took steps in that direction. He allowed himself to be sidetracked by other issues, and that disappointed me. If I were President, I would have ordered the prisoners moved to Levenworth or another military facility on day one. They are being held as enemy combatants (which is bullshit, but that's the current legal reality) so the CinC should have full authority over their dsposition. If we're going to maintain the fiction that we are at war, then Congress needs to butt the hell out of internal DoD affairs. If we recognize that we are not in a declared state of war, then we can't hold people without trial. Either way, the CinC/President should have the authority to move those men wherever he wants and Congress shouldn't have a say. That's my opinion, and it disappoints me that Obama didn't man up and make it happen. Sorry to rushmc, but one disappointment doesn't create vitriolic hatred in me. I'm more rational that some other folks. I'm pretty sure Barry was sincere in his wish to close Club Gitmo but, like many here he found that he was so ill-informed on the subject that he was forced to retract. Please don't dent the planet. As long as this situation is allowed to go unchecked we won't be manufacturing much here. First step would be to somehow force China to stop playing games with the valuation of their currency.
