3. Southern California is no doubt a beautiful place to fly. Otay being my home dz, and my friends primarily working/inhabiting this DZ, I will stay home. SoCal will be nice to visit from time to time I'm sure. Good luck to Joe for sure~
4. Seems to me very unacceptable. I've not had an issue of this at my DZ. However we are constantly addressing the delay between groups. I would DEFINITELY address this issue with the person - if he is not receptive to your request, take it up with the load organizer or manifest. Even if I'm wrong... you are paying for your jump -- and if you want to fly alone you are definitely entitled to do so.
5. Jane Seymour!!! AKA: Dr Qwinn, The medicine woman! Claire Forlani is high on the list.
6. My only coaching until recent was AFF lvl 1 ground school. Many I have talked to have shared the same experiences. Skydiving is an incredible sport with a incredible group of people. Not one person @ Skydive San Diego has turned a nose up to my inquiries. I do see that when the DZ is busy, there is no que to catch a new skydiver and give a pointer or two. If I didn't ask questions, I may not receive input unless I do something stupid to make notice of myself. Team Evolution has been a great addition to the staff/family @ our DZ. Getting all fun jumpers involved... challenging our skills, while improving our saftey habbits. I'm anxiously awaiting my canopy school ahead with Wyatt. From much of my reading, many conversations, and my little experiential knowledge, I know how important canopy skills are to my life, and the lives sharing the sky with me. I want to learn all I can to better my skills as an athlete. also to learn how to interact/react with other pilots. ( The fun starts once the canopy is over head )
7. Juggling sticks. Got a pair at the renaissance festival. I've been addicted since.
8. Sounds like you're just nervous. You should have 0 problems breathing -- just relax before exit, take a deep breath -- and breathe like normal throughout freefall. It's possible you're just thinking too much. Skydiving is too much fun to have so much anxiety
9. My dropzone is quite good at giving back. Since I've been flying... I've gotten a great deal of support and feedback for little to no cost. I have felt the difficulties still of trying to learn and find people for which to jump with. This is great advice!!! Also those of us who are still new and learning... don't forget to give back to those that have helped us too. Signing up for courses, and coaching is a great way to do so... and is benificial to you and the friends that have been there teaching you all along.
10. One from time to time isn't bad. Gives me a chance to really relax. I hate being forced to solo b/c there are no jumpers available. Solo by choice is a much better feeling.
11. Close to 11k My first year, this includes my AFF, Rig, Coach, Misc Gear and jump tickets/tunnel time. I'm having faint hopes of the cost sliding down a bit... however I'm seeing the desire for more experiences and opportunities. I don't know where it went. Just don't loose sight of what's important! Life is short -- enjoy it while you can!
12. Occasionally my Pilot Chute is difficult to pull out of my BOC. The first time I experienced this -- I was on boarder line panic... then I relaxed, gave a good tug and free'd my Gorgeous zero p canopy and glided home for a finish to a great skydive. I do get some anxiety when I try to perform with people that I jump with. I'm always anxious to do well so people continue to want to jump with me. However I don't have any fears that stand out whatsoever.
13. Quite simply the most fun I've EVER had Shouldn't it be illegal? Nm shhh! best not let out the seceret. I skydive for myself, my chance to perform, to learn, to be around my skydiving family/friends. The excitement is always present. Why not spend your free time with good people, enjoying something that most people will never understand. "Only, Skydivers know why the birds sing." ( unsure who said this )
14. I had an unfurnished apartment for 4 months... lived very cheap and paid as I went. I was willing to sacrifice to continue my progression. Every day is a new decision to decide what you want in life. I just kept making the right decision for me.
15. Isn't this a bit like a group of deployed soldiers talking about the probability they are going to get wacked on the next mission? I much more prefer to think about the amazing crap I get to pull off this weekend. Skydiving is too much fun to concern yourself with such things. If you're worried about crashing, why are you jumping? You ( Always ) have to be ready for a Mal... but no sense in looming over the prospect of having one.
16. Don't sweat it at all dude... I failed lvl 3 b/c I mixed up my directions when they asked me to turn. I'd be prompted to turn right... i'd turn left. ect. ect. On my first release dive... I was doing good until I started making knee turns un intentionally. I failed 2 lvl's... but I'm here still loving EVERY day I fly.
17. With my first 40 or so jumps I had problems with my nose running during freefall. I've not jumped while I was conjested, however friends/family of a great deal more experience then myself suggest that you should not jump while conjested. This can cause a great deal of problems. That has got to be the longest run on sentense I've ever written. Good luck with the surgery bud... Even minor surgery sux. Blue Skies.
18. Ohh well. Stumbled on it... thought it was funny. What you get when your wasting time at work.
19. Enjoy. http://stream.qtv.apple.com/qtv/videoc/http/boog001/boog001_http_300_ref.mov Pardon -- if I presumed this as unoffensive.
20. Imax is showing a film based on skydiving/base jumping. I've not seen it yet... however I do have plans to attend showing this weekend. The preview seems to show everything pretty well. I'm anxious to see it. http://www.bigmoviezone.com/filmsearch/movies/index.html?uniq=261 I've not seen this yet... but I am going this weekend to check it out.
21. I ordered mine sometime in Septemeber. Last notice they said it would be the 21rst. I'll find out Saturday if it's in or not. I guess they had a big move... and it delayed all of our orders. I'd say just hope for the best and be patient
22. First... I noticed there are no listings for Drop Zones in China. Is there a reason for this? My company just sold out to our competitors... the majority of our US employees have been let go. My employer continues to string my office around letting us know " you don't have anything to worry about yet. " Meanwhile I have been approached by a manager who says... " If you were offered your same salary... and traveling expenses. Would you consider relocating to Hong Kong?" I began my AFF in August 2003. I now have achieved my B liscense and I am less then 35 skydives to my C. I genuinely want to continue my progression... and I'm very concerned with these changes this will be hard to achieve. Does anyone know of an operational DZ in China? If not... how does one fill in such a period of time w/o the outlet of a DZ in your back yard? It was a real shot below the belt when I found this out. All will be well... Just don't want to go years w/o practice. Any Advice would be appreciated.
23. I've been to Perris and Skydive San Diego. Both are excellent places. I hear many good things of Elsinore... I've just not had the pleasure yet. I did my first tandem at San Diego... I then return 2 weeks later to begin my AFF in August. It's now December and I have logged over 120 jumps at Skydive San Diego. Staff is excellent, and has become a good network of friends. The winds are consistent and safe... either way she'll have a great time. As you might tell the community is rather dynamic and friendly. I would say though... it is a most excellent gift... are you adopting? Have a great time!! Blue skies!
24. Skydive San Diego gives us a free jump ticket for tandem and for aff lvl 1. I've gotten 2 free tickets for jump referrals. I've gotten a free hop and pop and a free jump ticket for miscelanous bets Buzz has made when he got bored and wanted some enteratainment. Several of the staff showed just how out of shape they were... racing to the end of the runway and back in 80 seconds. I decided to join them and make a fool of myself. This was rewarded with a free jump. I think it would be silly not to reward your fun jumpers. How better to spread the word then word to mouth from the people that do it every day.
25. My 1 experience outside of Skydive San Diego, was at Perris. I attended the swoop competition just a couple months ago. I must admit... with as busy as it was I thought it was gonna be very difficult to get airborne. It did take me a great deal of time... and a pretty decent run around. However I had a special circumstances hendering my progress. Having just received my A liscense... I had not received my card yet. I didn't have my proficiency card handy... however they looked me up online and I was on my way. At square 1 I found out I needed a reserve pin check. I was not aware I needed this to jump... so after about 40 minutes... they contacted a rigger to do this for me. All in all they did process me at a very busy time... and got me in the air. Now that I have more than trippled my jump # and I'm seeking to explore other skies -- I look forward to returning to Perris. Skydive San Diego is an incredible place with great people. Perris seemed to offer a more impersonal atmosphere, however the facilities and recourses are very nice indeed. It's definitely a place to visit -- and once your checked in your good to go. It's for your safety ever bit as much for them. Quite honestly... I've not met a skydiver or someone involved that I've not really cared for. Some have had their rough edges but don't we all. I'm sure the lady you encuontered may have had a bad day much like it seems you had. I must say I do prefer the view at my home DZ though
