You expect me to slow down after reading that? Riiiiiiiiight... PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Mark Grace was telling some funny baseball stories.... once Rick Sutcliffe gave up back-to-back homers in Cincinatti, where they shoot off fireworks for every home team home run. Billy Connors (pitching coach) starts to walk out to the mound, and Sutcliffe looks over at him and yells "I know I gave up f---ing back-to-back home runs and get your f---ing ass back in the dugout and tell Zimmer to f---ing settle down there, too." Billy looks at him and says, "I know you have everything under control, Rick. I just wanted to give that guy running the fireworks a little time to reload." A whuffo friend of mine said he'd heard that 4 people jumped out of the WTC on 9/11 and survived. I told him I seriously doubted it and why (massive fires = massive turbulence, would have been interviewed over and over again by nat'l. media, would have been mentioned in Parachutist or Skydiving, etc.). But, all the same, he's unconvinced. So - did it happen, or am I right in discounting it? PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Today is the anniversary of the last German offensive of WWI. Was this post inspired by the Somme assault and your recent visit to Paris? PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Centuries of science have given us more robust ways to do just about anything on the battlefield - communicate, observe, move, attack, etc. But beyond helmets and flak jackets, just about only thing science hasn't done is increase the capacity of the human body to withstand damage. just an FYI, Hep C is curable. High-dosage treatment with Interferon. It's only been developed recently though, so it's completely understandable that most people don't know about it.

Very true. Even beyond the space and portability requirements, you now have a keyboard that's guaranteed to be sterile - medical staff could use it in ERs and surgery theaters and not have to worry about cleaning it between patients, as long as the table or whatever they project it onto is sterilized. The dirty old man in me also has some ideas about typing "interesting" e-mails and posts on bare skin too. PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Hahaha, Jessica and I were just talking about the same thing. When my canopy opens I just roar in pure joy - one of those deafening blasts of sheer emotion that you can't fake and can't produce except at a very rare moment. Part of it is I can't really yell in freefall the way I can once I'm under canopy so that ultimate thrill of freefall builds up; opening is the first chance I have to release it. The other thing is that I'm so psyched the damn thing opened without a problem again!!! (If you've seen my pack jobs you might understand this better. ) On my AFF IV repeat, it was the sunset load, and there were only six or eight of us in the King Air so we could stretch out a little... we sang Margaritaville on the climb up. I had failed the jump a week earlier but I nailed it that time, and under canopy I got to watch a stunning sunset from a vantage point that few other people ever get to experience. The DZO radioed me down, and I could hear him start to laugh because I was whooping and hollering the whole way down. PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Some of you have seen the true-color poster of the Earth that has no clouds or anything; here is a VERY large digital version. The file is over 2 MB, and something like 8,000x4,100 resolution. If you've got the connection to handle it, it's stunning. (I never thought New Jersey would be so green.) PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

That's the same as having 4 fewer jumpers on every load! Holy crap, that thing's gonna be dangerous! I was doing a tandem on a slow day once, so it was just me, my TM, and 4 or 5 other people (I was basically subsidizing the entire load

The relevant clause in the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." Nothing in there about the President; it very specifically doesn't restrain the executive from endorsing or condemning a particular religion - but that's nitpicky wrangling. In the big picture, the meaning and application of the "Establishment Clause" has shifted dramatically in the past 210 years. The current jurisprudence basically requires the government to keep churches, mosques, synagogues, etc. on an equal footing with secular organizations. Religious organizations don't get special privileges that secular organizations can't have too, and religious organizations can't be restricted from activities/access that secular organizations are allowed. Cutting through the legalese: freedom OF religion doesn't mean freedom FROM religion. As for Bush's electioneering and Middle Eastern public opinion and press, well, they've got their views and the facts will be emphasized or ignored to fit them. It's a bias that operates on a conscious and subconscious level (and I'm definitely not saying the American or Western public opinion and media are bias-free). If Bush started making campaign stops at mosques and having Mollahs and Imams over for tea, I'm pretty sure the populace and media over there would just dismiss it as a farce. You can operate a motor vehicle any durn way you want, up to and beyond "ass hanging out of rear passenger window, hair on fire, hands on pedals." Doesn't mean it's legal. If these folks were drinkin' and drivin' then we already know they're less inclined to follow motor vehicle laws... PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

What a day Viking!!! Sorry to hear about your friend, but I'm glad that he didn't have paralyzing or fatal injuries. And you know what they say about skydivers with tib-fib fractures: more pins than a bowling alley ... and bigger balls too. I used to have it on my computer, but now I can't find it. It's not on skydivingmovies.com either. I'm pretty sure it was called "reapercam," and it was basically a montage of stupid skydiver tricks gone wrong. The soundtrack was "Crash" by The Primitives ("here you go, way too fast / ya don't slow down you're gonna crash / you should watch, watch your step / ya don't look out gonna break your neck"). If anyone knows where I can find this I'd be grateful. Thanks! PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Might wanna rethink that PZ, if you leave the arm behind they'll have a good source of DNA for matching. Maybe just spank it dry for a few days in advance so you'll be shootin' blanks? PTiger I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way

GoldenKnights jump ship colides with another plane
PalmettoTiger replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Cool, thanks for clearing that up Chris. BTW, which part of the regs cover that? (I skimmed the FARs and supplements on your site, but didn't see anything specifically covering pilots.) Some people pointed out that since this was a USAPT operation, they might not be covered by the rig-use regulation. Part 105.1(c) states: (c) Sections 105.5, 105.9, 105.13, 105.15, 105.17, 105.19 through 105.23, 105.25(a)(1) and 105.27 of this part do not apply to a parachute operation conducted by a member of an Armed Force -- (1) Over or within a restricted area when that area is under the control of an Armed Force. (2) During military operations in uncontrolled airspace. I don't know if Marana is uncontrolled airspace or not, or if "military operations" is broad enough to cover the Golden Knights' training jumps...
