I got the news and it's official - Daughter #1 has given birth to child #2 (a girl). Now, for those of you that know me - I'm not THAT old and as much as I love my kids the only reason I deserve this title is I wasn't much older than her by the time I had two ) - Guess I gotta live with my choices. BUT - She (the baby) is cute as a button. I'm hoping to get out to Phoenix in a week or so and see the little tyke - and spend some money on her. Oh - and me and Daughter #2 may go to Eloy while I am there... Lastly - daughter for sale to good man age 20-30, who doesn't smoke, drink, do drugs, has a college education, salaried job in a secured sector... Must be willing to answer to the name "Husband" and "Daddy" right away... And also MUST pass MY acceptance test, quality criterium and complete background investigation. Interested parties PM me off line . Packing for me is a bonus. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

I'm with you dude... Through 20 years, I've quit many a time - each time I make it further and further. I've found that sunflower seeds are majik for me (but my wife tells me they make my breath stink - not sure she knows what she's talkin' 'bout). This time I quit about a month ago, and its been the easiest yet - I haven't killed anyone (family included, and the close calls are much fewer this time). I've been on Wellbutrin for the last 6 months though and that may be helping (WB is great shit). The test for me has been toughest this week - I'm travelling in Europe where everyone smokes. I get bored in my hotel room and the old solution was to smoke (we won't talk about what I'm doing now in my hotel room to stay occupied )... And I went out for beers last night till 2:00 am and almost gave in. Today, glad I didn't. And... I know if I have just one, its all over with. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

WAIT - It's a coverup! This IS Bill Clinton. I looked at the picture and I'm sure it's Bill - Look hard, you will see it. Afterall, didn't he advertise himself as the first Black president? - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

I lost ~30 lbs on "Body for Life" (Check Amazon) two years ago (from ~220-~190). And I've held my new weight for almost two years. It's basically High-protein, Low fat, no processed carbs - and an exercise program. I lost a significant amount of bodyfat... The results in the book are much better than what I've achieved (no 6-pack yet) but I sure feel better. I still eat 7-8 times a day during the week, and work out at least 5 days a week...But I've modified my work-out to less mass building to more calorie burning. And my weekend cheating (In-and-out burgers, pizza, chinese food) hasn't hurt me. I'd post the before picture, but I'm in my underwear... - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

I didn't jump last weekend and have some family commitments Saturday afternoon (and will be traveling for the company on Sunday) - I'm screwed and need a fix. So - assuming the weather holds I'm going to try to get some jumps in this Friday at Hollister. Anyone else interested? Maybe we can get enough people for a few king-air rides? - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

Three words? Fuel Air Bomb. Four? MOAB: Mother-of-all-bombs.... - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."
-
Two Words: Cluster bombs. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."
-
Several problems with this game - 1) The bombs aren't big enough. I need a few Tacts in my arsenal... 2) Reload time is too long. 3) No tanks or blackhawks. 4) No money for reconstruction. 5) Why do the "people" gravitate towards the bomb target after the button is pushed but before the bomb is launched? 6) The Kill range for civillians appears to be longer from the blast point than that of the terrorists. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

3:0:0 3 Kick-ass days snowboarding with my kids at Tahoe. Fell hard only once - and almost snapped my leg in half...and now my collar bone hurts like a MF. Also, traffic back to the bay area was a bitch. I was hoping to get a jump in or two yesterday with my #2 daughter, but the weather was just sucky. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a large tumbler of scotch in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his drink. "What's the matter, dear?", she whispers as she steps into the room, "Why are you down here at this time of night?" The husband looks up from his drink, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 16?" he asks solemnly. "Yes I do" she replies. The husband paused. The words were not coming easily. "Do you remember when your father, the cop, caught us in the back seat of my car making love?" "Yes, I remember". said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him. The husband continued, "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'either you marry my daughter, or I'll send you to jail for 20 years?" "I remember that too", she replied softly. ... ... ... ... ... He wiped another tear from his cheek and said... "I would have gotten out today." - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

You mention Denmark and Sweeden - meanwhile the Most expensive city in the World this year was Oslo, in Norway - and I have been doing a lot of business in Oslo and traveling there quite often. When my business compatriots there explain the "how" of why they can provide these services, it is because this is one country freakin RICH in Oil drilled off of their coast-line and what is not spent abroad is invested in things like free education and free healthcare. And while the guys I've met there are realtively sharp (if this represents their education system) one of them hurt his back and was in bed for 6 weeks while he awaited his turn in-line at the local medical facility to fix him up. And even in this environment, I still saw homeless people downtown pushing carts. And - these guys weren't happy at all about their high-rate of taxes - but accept it just because they have no other choices. Lastly - and my friends largest concern, is that the cost of doing business there is preventing significant business investment there in the tech and bio-medical industry. Jobs and companies are either moving to the cheaper part of the EU, or companies rejecting out-of-hand the thought of even moving any sites there due to the taxes, cost and expense (Did I just describe California too?). - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

I went to CoCo View a couple of years back - its in the honduran bay islands. There was an awful lot of US owned "Settlements" there and the owner of the dive place was a US citizen - and we talked quite a bit about it.... He liked everything about it but the medical quality. And other than a few guards at the bank holdin uzi's, and the dirt-poor areas (I've never seen it that poor before) - Everything I have heard is that Belize and Honduras are a lot alike - but never been there... yet. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

1:1:1 Had a great time playing Dad all day Saturday while Mom was taking a Notary class . 1 Helicopter jump from 6K - if this is what base-jumping is like.... could easily become another addiction. 1 Case for the heli jump - but had to bail early today due to more family commitments. If the weather is good next weekend - gonna jump till I puke. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

Well, that didn't take long - We bought my daughter a car for college a few months ago before she left for UoA, Tucson: and then last week she "T-boned" someone and she doesn't have full coverage (everyone was fine). I got the quote back from Tucson auto collision and I'm in shock (It's almost as much as I paid for the car - 1997 honda). If anyone here knows of a reputable place I can get a second opinion from in Tucson and could help out, please PM me. Thanks, and I really, really appreciate any help I can get. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

The Holy Land... __________________________________________ A guy goes on vacation to the Holy Land with his wife and mother-in-law and the mother-in-law dies while they are there. They go to the local undertaker who explains that they can ship the body home, but that it'll cost over $5000, whereas they can bury her in the Holy Land for only $150. The guy says, "We'll ship her home." The undertaker asks, "Are you sure? That's an awfully big expense and we can do a very nice burial here." The guy says, "Look - 2000 years ago they buried a guy here and three days later he rose from the dead... I just can't take that chance." __________________________________________ Hehehe - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

Every opportunity I get... I started giving blood a few years ago, and the folks at stanford sent me a card telling me that I have "special" blood (apparently, there was a common childhood virus I never got that makes it "special"). I can't remember what it's called (who knows - they could have made this up to make me feel special and obligated to give... ya think) Once I found this out, it just felt like the right thing to do. But I still hate the needle - one time it had too much anti-coagulent on it. It hurt and burned so bad I almost screamed. But I keep going back... Here's to hoping I never need to make a withdrawl. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

OK - I can make a clicky and have done so by clicking the URL button, putting in the URL, and then clicking the URL button again.... But all it displays is the URL. How do you make a word a clicky to a specified URL (Like you do when you have the word Here (as an example). - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

How oftern do you practice your Reserve drills?
TaeKwonDoDo replied to bluegremlin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My ride to altitude: Gear check as I board. Strap/3 point harness check, 3 ring check after I buckle in. Laugh at Terry. Laugh with Rob. Strap check, 3 ring check, pull pillow, pull D ring. Look around at others three point harness. Laugh some more. Look around at a few other altimeters and compare it to mine. Look out the window, determine jump-run and find the LZ. Put my goggles on. Wait for the red light. Wait for the yellow light. Open door, look out for LZ. 3 point check, 3 ring check, pull check, pillow check, D ring check. Check the spot (need to reinforce this one - a couple of bad spots relying on other people have put me off before). Jump. This has become pretty routine for me. I guess it's part of wanting to developing good habits... I have a few friends who I've noticed have a similar routine on every ride up that includes the reserve-pull check. Another reason I do this is because of that little piece of me that's hidden way in the back of my mind that is still scared shitless on every jump has me do it several times - just so I don't miss anything. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style." -

Sorry - Would love to but have a ways to go to get there... what quals does one need (i.e., how far away am I?). I'll sign up when I'm a few hundred jumps along (at least). Also, Why during the work-week? - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

Something the liberal media is not pointing out is that the 1984 GDP increase corresponded, almost two years the quarter, to the Regan tax cut - and its almost two years to the quarter of our "first" tax cut. Interesting correlation.... but nahhhhh. Nevermind. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

That would be me... I'm on this high-protien diet and it messes with me (with a vengance). Last time this happend - the DZO was on the plane sitting next to me and "oooppps". And I'm a terrible liar. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."

Undone straps/Gear Check/Familiarization...
TaeKwonDoDo replied to TaeKwonDoDo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This problem was found "pre-incident" ... I questioned myself about posting it but figured it might be of value... A post AFF student (on about jumpt 25) was wearing a rental/student rig - the thing with this particular rig is that it had adjustment points at the hip-rings that allowed sizing the container for the torso (lengthening the arm loop). On the way to altitude (I missed the load - I was packing) one of the instructors was just looking around at everyone's three point connections (a check he does to kill time on the way to altitude) and he notices that the buckle on the arm/torso is only pulled through in one direction - i.e., not looped back through the buckle. Had my new friend jumped without (him or someone else) noticing this, it would have been a disaster on opening - as I'm pretty sure that with one arm completely disconnected from the rig would have caused him to fall out, or in the less drastic case put him into an uncontrollable spin. Needless to say, the student was a little freaked when he got down (he did fix it on the plane and did jump - after another full gear-check) - and then went home for the day. Moral of the story is three-fold: 1) Do several gear checks 2) If you aren't using you're own gear (and even if you are) be familiar with it and know its weak points. 3) While the main responsibilities are for ourselves - take a little time on the way to altitude to look for un-done straps/misrouted buckles on your fellow jumpers - it only takes a few seconds - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style." -
I was actually told (incorrectly?) that it should be easier to sit at higher altitudes and lose the sit as I go lower for that same reason... Just trying to figure this out so I can go on some group freeflies. - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."
