    I agree, open carry is much more of a deterent. I discussed this principle with a Hillsborough County Deputy. His opinion was that if the bad guys see any sign that you may be carrying a firearm, they will take it away from you. He emphasized his statement with, "Don't ever think they won't." However, if the majority of folks on the street are displaying open carry it might be a different story. I disagree with the Sheriff. If concealed carry in itself is a deterrrent as most proponents state, then why wouldn't it be a deterrent from someone trying to take a gun away from someone who open carries? His point, at least in the Tampa Bay Area, was that they will attack as a gang with gang tactics. He had no major problem with concealed carry, just don't advertise it and become a target of opportunity to steal your weapon. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit.     For consideration, the rule of 3's. The bad guy will be within 3 yards and you have 3 seconds to fire 3 rounds. I carry a 9mm Springfield 3.5 XD(M) loaded with personal protection ammo i.e., hollow points. It is a bit heavy but I have gotten use to it. My son carried a 1911 .45 ACP and found it to be way to bulky and difficult to conceal. He switched to a Ruger Double Action LCR, .38 Special. It weighs 13 ozs. and carries easily in trouser pockets.     No, your father is not that unusual. Just spoke with my father on the phone. He's being doped up beyond belief for 25 years now, due to a work accident. Finally got "committed" to a hospital.     I was not a blue collar worker but, I think it is because we do not have a strong third party, such as the Libertarian Party.     I fear the damage done may be irreversible. The conservatives that make the most sense to me do not gain in popularity. Let's see how Michelle Bachmann fairs in IA and SC. My plan is to establish a safe enclave in the Deep South mountain area. I will surround my wife and extended family with people I can trust and who are resourceful.
