That is your opinion. I think if you put the 2 side by side, you'll get more excitement from the handcam, just from the opening and under canopy shots. As for the handcam video's you've seen, you must not have good tdm inst. that can shoot video. That's where it's at. You have to be good at handcam for it to be good video. So before you 'think' that outside video is definetly better try an experiment and then come back to this thread. I've done it. I offer 2 forms of video and guess what, YOUR WRONG!!! I have 75% handcam over the outside video. Just because of the opening shot and flying under the canopy.

They probably had their pilot's licence before the dz.

DONE and is working out.

Ya right. In dream world I could fly this plane. >It's not like being a commercial pilot is like being an astronaut or something and presumably the DZO has access to the aircraft so, why the heck not? Because I have 0 hrs flying and the insurance requires 750 hours of flying. Do the math man, you have to be rich to get those 750hrs and not to mention the years of time. I will have my pilot's license in the future. Just not anytime soon. I agree that it would be great to be the pilot too for these circumstances. But in all reality, how many dzo's can fly the plane? That should be a poll. Quade, send me money to get those 750hrs and I'll fly the plane. But thanks for your .2 cents.

Just the comments I wanted to hear! Cool!

Getting the shot, what else? I'm a video guy in a tandem's body. Hands on risers, only if you feel a problem. Otherwise you dont' really need your hands up there. THe shots on exit with outside video is very nice to see. Opening shots are much, much, much better than outside video if you do it right. But it's different in all situations. I don't have a real outside video person full time. So for me Handcam is the best option.

Nicely said. The dz's make more money with handcam. They get that slot with a fun jumper and they make money on the video. WIN WIN. I have 3500video jumps and I have 15 handcam jumps now and I really love the handcam for opening and undercanopy. That is where the best video is. The words that come out of the mouths of the students during and after opening is absoulutely the best video you can get. The facial expressions during opening, Priceless. Can outside video do that, Nope. The only expression that the outside video guy gets is very little on opening and after landing. You are not as pumped up on landing as you are during/after opening. I have my own small cessna 206 dz and it's silly to have outside video here. It's 100F for 3months and the field elevation here is 4500'MSL, so putting another 200lbs in the plane, takes longer to get to altitude, dont' make as much off the video because I have to pay $40 for the video person. Or I can do handcam, dont' have to put another person in the plane or you can put a fun jumper, extra $20, instead of losing $40. You pay the Inst. an extra $25-30. So you make $30 by not putting the outside video person. Times that by 5 loads per day....hmmm I like saving $150 a day? Makes sense to me and the video is even better if you do it right. If the tdm master can't shoot video then of course the video will suck. my .2cents.

Your not giving them less service. YOU think it's less service. The students choose what they want. IF they have a choice of video, it's not giving them less service if they choose, is it?
-
I doubt that they will get sick of it. The money is GREAT and it's not work.
-
you owned a small dz and your pilot just picked up his things and left with a 5am phone message. Leaving you with NO pilot in the meantime. What would you do? Besides hire a new pilot.

Well, I bought the A2 tandem canopy 389. We put 100 jumps on it now. I just got a demo Sigma 370 and it's fun. Great openings on both canopies. If I had to buy another tandem canopy, it would be the Sigma for sure. It's worth the extra $300. - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012

"Why would you want to visit new objects to practice avoidance skills, rather than doing them at a familiar, safe span, and being able to focus entirely on learning the skills?" That would be the same as going to a different dz every time and new landing area. One of the PD boys told me that it takes 30-40 swoops at a new dz to get the comfortable feeling. - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012

Glad to hear he's ok! I hope that when you all make it out to Moab, make wise decisions. Oh, and try to have the experience too. When I first got to Moab, I was told that you should have 30-40 BASE jumps before you start jumping in Moab because of how dangerous it is. I firmly believe that unwritten rule. Be safe! - Clint

Some more bad news for Moab, we were doing ok until Wednesday. Don't know much about it. I was sitting in the bar and the manager told me that some BASE jumper broke their back. He jumped off Tombstone and was air lifted to Grand Junction. He broke L1. Ouch! We didnt' know anyone was in town so when we heard it we didn't know who it was. According to 2nd hand info, the guy had 2 BASE jumps. I guess a friend of his from the East coast brought him out to the nice SAFE cliffs. I guess the accident happened like this. I guess the rigger shortened the deep brake settings way too much so when it opened up, he was flying backwards towards the wall. Didn't know what was wrong. He thought it was a line over?? and then dumped his toggles. Was flying to the ground with the rear risers and then picked his feet up to land, way up above his lower back. He landed hard and broke his L1. It also happened at 2-3pm. The winds were blowing 28-38 mph all afternoon long. I thought my manifest office was going to blow away! Very surprising to hear that anyone would be jumping. I say 'I guess' alot is because I don't know the facts from of this incident. Just 2nd hand info. Heal fast man. Also on a side note, Gus Wing fly forever my friend! - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012

I have a 35mm Rebel G. I have a 24mm wide angle lens. Stupid question, but I can use that lens for the Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL EF-S 18-55MM KIT - EOS 300D. Also, can I use the same bite switch? Thanks, - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012

I have been using the kenko .5 lens for the past 7 years but it really sucks. I just found that out. So what would you recommend for a lens. I don't really want to spend more than $100. Thanks, - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012

Usually 6 when Marta is here. Tony Felber from CA/AZ is coming up on the 16th and leaving the 17/18? So drop a call 435-260-8383 - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Swooping the Corona Arch in Moab, Utah Video!!
clint replied to clint's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It's already done. Just not online yet. This is just a tease. The Moab Boogie video will have it all very soon. She(the producer) is a perfectionist and it'll be wll worth the wait!! THat is why it's taking so long. Be patient please, to all those who have called. Also at www.Skydivingmovies.com Check out Moabian Cliff Swoopers. It's 2.5 mins long. It takes a while but worth it. - Clint MacBeth Skydive Moab 435 259 JUMP M.O.A.B. Mother Of All Boogies Sept 19 - 23, 2012 -

New Songs for Video Editing, What' new and hip?
clint replied to clint's topic in Photography and Video
I'm in the middle of know where so I don't get any good radio. Also I don't have ANY jumpers at my place so that's out. What I want to do is have a video sheet, say how good video is, bla...bla... bla.. and then have them pick their 2 songs. Into/Freefall and then I play Pearl Jam's 'Alive' for the landing and ending. So I want good songs for them to choose from. I only have older music but good for skydiving. I'm not a music man also, never been into it so picking a good song for skydiving is hard for me and like I said, we don't have any alternative music. Mostly Britney spears, and such.
