Fantastic effort! The site looks great. You may want to think about having a 'donate' button somewhere on the home page to help with the bandwidth costs. I think the first skydiving video I ever watched was one of Phree's Year End ones from skydivingmovies.com.

I've said for a long time that if a presidential candidate ran promising serious election reform that I'd vote for them, regardless of their other issues... Abolishing the Electoral College and instigating an alternative voting system will be the best thing for politics that's happened that I can remember. If Trump REALLY did this? Man, I'd throw up a little in my mouth on the day but I'd almost have to vote for him, then keep my fingers crossed for the next 4 years that he didn't destroy the world. But first, I'd have to believe that he'd actually follow through with ANYTHING he says, and that's a bit of an issue.

It's always a competition with you isn't it? How many times do I need to say that I think this entire election cycle is a shitshow for it to register? Every option is a bad one. some are just worse than others. But yes. I think Hilary has more political experience than Trump, and for me, that translates to a more predictable option. Unpredictability is NOT a benefit in a world leader. You're a staunch Republican. Aren't you pissed off that your party gave you the choices it did? Don't you see their culpability if the Democrats win the election? Like I said, I'd be fucking furious.
-
Yeah. That worked well for Italy...

The Republican party should all be fucking embarrassed that their candidate for the most powerful position in the world is a reality TV-show host with zero political experience... Seriously. Let that sink in for a minute. How they haven't all instantly quit out of shame is beyond me. However we came to this, that fact - the fact that Trump is entirely unsuitable in terms of experience for political office was known at the time the Republicans let him represent their party. And they let him do it anyway... If I was a Republican I'd be furious.

That's the right attitude!

And the UK. And the Netherlands. And Germany. And Australia.. and and and and. that the US aspires to be more than everyone, I'm not doubting. But to use that arrogance as an argument against universal health care is, well, arrogant.

The verbal content is really useful, Brian, but for some constructive feedback I don't think it's great for a teaching video to have a minute and a half intro, or for it to be over video of your vacations. Honestly, I though you'd put up a link to the wrong video initially... Either a blank screen or some diagrams or footage of what you're talking about would be much more valuable.

Help convincing my wife that jumping isnt a death wish
yoink replied to Ploy's topic in Safety and Training
I'd just like to point out that this is a bunch of self-righteous horsepoop. Skydiving is just a sport. It's no better, worse or more or less fulfilling than any other passion. I've done skydiving and loved it. I've also done many other things and loved them and been equally rewarded by them over the years. Skydivers are not special, unique snowflakes... For the OP: You're in a tough situation, but the question is simple. Unless your wife relents, which do you love more - skydiving or her? If you pressure her to change her mind against her will how is that any different from her pressuring you to stop jumping? Either way you'll end up with some resentment in the relationship somewhere... and that usually ends badly. -
and there's the rub. If people are acting within the boundaries of the law of their country then it's fine. If you don't agree with the laws, petition to get them changed. I tell you what - If I had a fuck tonne of cash, I'd pay accountants to find the best ways to make it work for me within the law. If that included moving some of it offshore I'd do it in a heartbeat and I'll call anyone who says they'd do otherwise either a liar or stupid. However, if they're acting outside the law they should be prosecuted. You don't get to whine about rich people because they're rich. that's just petty.
-
Oh jesus that's depressing.
-
No kidding. That's one responsibility-dodging way to look at it. If the majority of your voting public are a bunch of frightened, xenophobic bigots who believe baseless rhetoric, you get Hitler... We get the politicians we deserve and we've got Trump, Cruz, Clinton and Sanders. It's a fucking disgrace. I'm really hoping that the only good thing that comes out of this election cycle is that more people actually start paying more attention to their government and the possibility of demanding accountability from their elected officials. They are supposed to work FOR us, after all.

And pay for his flight. And buy her a puppy

Yup.

What would you do protect your knees when you land?
yoink replied to malorie721811's topic in Safety and Training
Feet and knees together. Flare all the way and hold it. Be prepared to PLF as soon as you land. All first jump course stuff taught to EVERY student. What are you really asking and why? Because you sound suspiciously like a lawyer. -
Don't forget to watch this one as well: Donald Trump backs away from his earlier promise to back a Republican candidate. Demonstrably not a team player and a liar when it suits him, I've no doubt this won't mean a thing to his supporters and is just another 'Why is this guy getting votes?' question for his detractors. He's going to make an AWESOME commander in chief.

I'm sure Trump will pay for his legal fees

They're not my party. And you might get away with joking it off if 95% of your posts didn't have the same trend. The boy who cried wolf and everything... But in the same way that I don't tolerate racism when I see / hear it, I try and fight against deliberate ignorance as well. I honestly believe the internet is one of mankind's greatest inventions. The ability to share knowledge and education as we can is revolutionary and (I believe) is a huge benefit for us as a species. Deliberately pissing into that pool for the sake of political posturing offends me.

It's an interesting question and not one I can answer, because I'm not an expert. There ARE experts out there though and I suspect they'd come up with a reasonable range of options if people could dissociate the politics with the practicality. But on that day, Satan would skate to work.

Holy shit. I can't watch that. It -IS- difficult to see the real Democratic Party operate in session. It's a single member of the Democratic Party acting like he's got a room temperature IQ - not the whole party. I'm sure there are others, just as I'm sure there are people in the Democratic party who are really intelligent. You know JUST LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE IN LIFE, even in your preferred party or at the dropzone. This type of deliberate and provocative ignorance gets really tedious after the 8 thousandth time. Newsflash. Not everything is about political parties. In fact people trying to make it so is what has driven the politics to the complete shitshow it is today.
-
Holy shit. I can't watch that.

Can we stop calling him 'The Donald'? It's fucking ridiculous. It sounds like the name a teenager gives to his johnson.
-
Look at that video. That's about as close as it's possible to get in a wingsuit. Now imagine you're the student - how much time do you have seeing them? Maybe 3 or 4 seconds? And that's IF they're prepared for it... The argument that it's a benefit for a student is a complete nonsense. It's always been about wingsuiters having their fun. If these guys in the video were both experienced jumpers then more power to them. Have fun. Just don't mess with students.

See, this type of gun ownership I understand. Not only that, I'd do the same - or at least I think I would. But you don't need a mini-gun to protect your home. And you don't need to carry a gun all of the time when you're in public to have options. And the people who should be allowed to own a gun for home protection should be suitably vetted, required to have guns secured, and have a limitation on what they can own. The gun ownership has never been an all-or-nothing debate for me. Just the politics makes it that, which guarantees that nothing will ever change.
