His paranoia has nothing to do with it. This asshole demands 2 innocent members of the public does what he wants and threatens them with a gun, then shoots at them when they refuse. There aren't 2 sides to this one. Just a right side and an asshole with a gun. Assuming it's possible to bring charges against this guy, who would do it? Would the police do it on their own or would the parents have to press charges. You can be damn sure I would.
-
Seriously? Is it possible for you to EVER think someone with a gun is in the wrong? Read the report again. There is zero evidence that they were trespassing. They were sitting in THEIR car so I think it's unlikely they were parked on this guy's driveway... And even if they were you cannot seriously think that an appropriate response to the crime of trespass would be execution? I'd be more for gun ownership if people who were pro gun rights actually took responsibility for policing their own. If people like you, or the NRA didn't always stand up for gun rights no matter WHAT the situation it might prove that you could see there can be problems with gun ownership. As it is, you're a fanatic. There's no point discussing anything with you because it's fundamentally impossible for you to even consider any sort of compromise. This guy tried to shoot at 2 kids because they didn't stop the car when he told them to. Are you seriously telling me that if someone shouts at you to stop your car late at night you'd do it? I call bullshit. And so when you don't you'd be OK with them shooting at you? I call bullshit on that too.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36818384 They didn't stop the car when some random member of the public told them to, so he deliberately shot at them?? WHAT THE FUCK? I wouldn't have stopped the car either. Probably neither would any of you... But this bit. This bit is my favorite: That's right. That's the lesson from this near incident... Careful how you play a videogame, folks! But that guy who was SHOOTING AT PEOPLE? Nah. No guidelines needed. He's a responsible gun owner after all. There isn't any mention of a single recrimination for this tool.

Bullshit. The 'we're not a PC crowd' line doesn't wash. There's a line between PC and out-of-order and you know it. Go to a dropzone bar when the beer light is on and start calling people Niggers, then tell everyone you're not part of the PC crowd and how that makes it OK. See how long you're left with your teeth. There's also a difference about joking about sport death and deliberately being a divisive cunt about everything. If that offends you then you're in the wrong place.

This is the downside of the information world. It's much easier to plan attacks now. Where, when, how - all that information is available on the internet rather than having to actually make contact with specific people or groups. It's also much more certain that your message will get out if you commit one and it's much easier to reach a wider audience to convince them to do the same. I think that this is a point where freedom of the press isn't a benefit to society. I'd hope that one day press associations around the world would be able to agree that the only coverage of something like this would be 'Terrorist attack kills 80 in Nice', with no mention of affiliations, grievances, history or even name of the killer. Take away the possibility of fame or using the media as a vehicle for your propaganda and we might see a decrease in both terrorist and domestic attacks. Of course that will never happen. Even if somehow the media outlets agreed to it, politicians would let the information slip for their own purposes. The really sad thing, but the thing I remind myself every time Ron comes on here and prophesises the end of the world when something like this happens, is that in the large scheme of things this isn't even a blip on the radar. The only real consequence is to steel the resolve of nations against this sort of action... There is no possible way that terrible tragedies makes any meaningful difference in the way the world works in the long term - which makes it all the more tragic.
-
Holy fucking shit. You can even make a tragic terror attack in another country about your gun rights in the US. Words fail me. Try being a decent human being, just for a bit.

From a cursory search you've been saying this crap for the last 3 YEARS. If shit is coming, it's doing so very slowly. And giving all the signs of improving economy, employment, you know - society. In the last 3 years I've bought a house. Been promoted. Been travelling. Made loads of new friends. Lived. What have you been doing except cowering in the hills waiting for the (eventual) collapse of society? Does it piss you off to see another year go by when YET AGAIN the world keeps turning? You've been wrong every time so far with your doom saying. You'll keep being wrong. You have a 100% inaccuracy record. And that's to say nothing of the tastelessness of doing your wierd end-of-the-world gloating thing in a thread talking about the murder of police officers. Your priorities are so far out of whack that I'd be surprised if you could even relate to normal society anymore.

As much as I like to rail on Trump there's a sizable portion of my countrymen that didn't know what Brexit was three weeks ago, but voted for it anyway.
-
The police in this country have to stop murdering young black men. Period. While what happened in Dallas tonight was wrong, the police in this country should be first and foremost apologizing for their role in murdering young black men and only secondarily focusing on their own losses. I agree. But two wrongs don't make a right. Shooting random police officers doesn't right the injustice. By even making the statement 'The police in this country have to stop murdering young black men' in reference to this act, you're justifying it. They're getting their message out by murdering innocents. It's unconscionable in every possible way. Everyone should be saying onlt that - no ifs, buts or 'reasons'.

Today is the Brexit vote. We have lots of bets going, what do you think?
yoink replied to ibx's topic in Speakers Corner
This morning 48% of the British public have come to the conclusion that 52% of their neighbors are morons. There was pretty much no good reason to leave the EU apart from the transient 'feel-good' factor of giving two fingers to Europe. The special exemptions that were in place for the UK let us meddle in European politics while being relatively shielded from the results. That's just been pissed into the wind. Great Britain has now lost the security of a mutual defense agreement, and has vastly reduced any influence it had in global economic negotiations. Now we're just an isolated little island. To top it off we now potentially have Prime Minister Boris Johnson who is the equivalent of our Trump... He has no understanding of reality but is very good at pandering to what people want to hear. Oh, and Scotland will probably vote to leave Great Britain as a result of this. Maybe Norther Ireland too, but that's a little more complicated. That the entire campaign has been run on emotional fears and outright lies for something as serious as this is disgusting. -
Leviticus 20:10 says that Christians should stone to death adulterers. If one guy went and did that? FUCK CHRISTIANITY! The actions of one guy, or even a thousand guys do not define a religion of thousands of millions... By all means rail at THIS particular guy for his actions or at HIS particular interpretation of the Islamic faith. But transposing those actions to every Muslims via 'fuck all Islam' is racism - pure and simple. It has no place in this society.

Looks Like the Wall is Going to be Built After All
yoink replied to muff528's topic in Speakers Corner
What? No. Really... WHAT? I've seen some asinine arguments made here in the cause of 'my side vs your side', but this one is a doozie. Please - explain how you're drawing parallels between either a temporary security fence for a venue for a particular event or an increased height of the steel fence around the White House to a permanent 2,000 mile, 35ft concrete wall. I really want to hear how this is a political argument. Go for it. Make it Dems vs Republicans... Seriously - I work in construction and I tell you this. If Trump gets in and builds his famous wall, I'll be the first bidding for the project. And here's why... it'll be such a fucking boondoggle that I'm going to be able to retire from it. I'll make an absolute fortune. And you'll pay for it. -
Yes. "Shortly after beginning HRT, MAAB trans people may start becoming more emotionally sensitive, especially to stress, though this is not a universal experience. Six to eight weeks after beginning hormone therapy, the first physical effects in MAAB trans people begin to appear. The first noticeable change is the beginnings of chest growth. Sometimes, this can be very painful. Acne usually begins to clear up, and skin becomes softer and less coarse. Balding ceases and some hair might even begin to grow back, though it is usually very fine. Body hair lessens and becomes finer. In some places (such as the stomach), it may disappear entirely. Gradually, body fat begins to redistribute from around the waist to the hips. Muscle mass starts to disappear, and it causes a noticeable loss in strength. The loss of muscle, though, gives the body a softer look and feel. Another thing to be expected with HRT is loss of sexual functioning. The external gonads generally shrink, it becomes harder to maintain an erection, and there is a loss of the ability to ejaculate." Source Those pesky facts again.....

...aannnd that's one of the most depressing posts I've ever read on this site. Because it's dead on. BillVon for president. Gets my vote.
-
Holy fucking shit. Me neither. I had to go back and check. This place is less fun without her.

Seems like an interesting guy, but one of the comments has a good question - how could ANY outsider hope to govern effectively with the Senate and House being completely political animals driven by party politics? Seems unlikely any but the most mild and palatable changes would ever get made, doesn't it?

News flash. Someone probably hits on your girlfriend, fiancee or wife every time you guys go to a bar ANYWHERE to some degree or other. Try picking a fight every time that happens and you'll be eating through a straw pretty quickly.... Either you trust the partner in your life to deal with it, or you don't. If they ASK for help, fair enough, but some of the macho bullshit this thread is pathetic.

If Trump gets elected and actually does that, I'll be the first to stand up and say that his presidency is one of the most important in decades, pretty much regardless of whatever else he does short of ending the world.

Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
yoink replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The Statement of Relevant Facts section is a great read. People should just post copies of it to Kim. Repeatedly. -
Just to be clear, we're talking about 2 well different things here. The 'you lose your turn' line (whether you like it or not) seems to have some basis in truth. Lots of short term relationships and hookups at the DZs... If people here think it's disrespectful to women, grow up. It's equally disrespectful to the guys. Or not at all to either. We're talking about consensual hookups. If you 're worried about it, just don't do it. If you're worried that your boyfriend or girlfriend will do it then there are some trust issues you need to work out... There IS more pressure being released at a DZ after hours than just at some random bar with whuffos. Not liking that doesn't make it any less true. That's what leads to the lifer-affirming behavior of skydivers. That said - what you're concerned about, non consensual attacks are completely different. Why you'd choose to even go to that DZ if that's a legitimate concern baffles me. Skydiving clubs used to be like families. Wierd, slightly dysfunctional families to be sure, but I've never felt threatened by any of them. Times they sure must be a'changing.
-
I agree. But for that to happen and have any meaningful impact, the system of voting needs to change. Until then so-called 'tactical' voting trumps pointless idealism. I don't particularly like it, but I'm also pragmatic. It's the reality we live in.
-
I think there's a legitimate difference between being a supporter of Hilary and being a supporter of Hilary because the alternative is Donald Trump. One is saying 'I genuinely think she's the absolute best choice for president' and the other is 'well, if the choice is I have to cut off a pinky finger or both bollocks, I guess I'll start buying custom made gloves.'

If you needed more proof that George Zimmerman is scum
yoink replied to yoink's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm glad some people get the point. Why he's selling it. What happened to get it to the point of being sold. What he's doing with the money - none of that changes my opinion that it's the WAY he's trying to sell it that makes him scum. This is a guy who shot a kid, and is now trying to make out that the weapon itself is a national treasure. He's lying about established museums being interested in it... If it will help Rush focus, I'll happily amend the thread title to: "If you need proof that George Zimmerman is scum..." -

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/05/12/george-zimmerman-to-auction-off-gun-he-used-to-kill-trayvon-martin/ Now he's selling the handgun he used to kill Trayvon Martin - That wouldn't be awful in itself if he was just selling it as a gun, but making the entire point that it was the gun used to take a life and classing it as an 'American Icon', then lying about the Smithsonian Museum being interested? Yeah. The guy is absolute pond scum.
