We have it quite a bit better than in England. £1.00 a liter is equal to $6.75 a gallon. If you want to see bad effects, they'll be happening in Europe before they do here.

I didn't miss anything, you can't have it both ways, the left including John are regularly saying how he does it better than the real News hinting at their own agenda, then use the gutless cop-out that he's only a comedian when the claim is criticized. Most notably when John did it himself on hardball, he should have been torn a new one on there but he got away with it, again. If you want to make the claim then don't whine when you're called on it. It's called a figure of speech. Suppose I say someone is such a bad doctor/plumber/whatever that I could do a better job. Does that mean I actually think I am a doctor/plumber/whatever?

Yeah, but how many of them have an Internet shrine? I hear she's with Fox now as well.

Kim, you maniac. Imagine, trying to make something political out of a John Lennon song! How about we make it a clicky for the cut-and-paste challenged,

I'd like to hear what chuteless has to say about this.

So you didn't like my Boy Who Cried Wolf comparison?

Let me try this again to get thru whatever fog there seems to be forming there. The website of the C of CC goes out and finds ANY and all news stories that supports their positions that the White race and Conservatives are under attack on a daily Basis. If you scroll down on their website.. you will find plenty of links of anything they find as an attack on them. That's it??? You've found a right-wing website that is also racist and that's some kind of news flash? Can you possibly be of the opinion that there are no left-wing websites out there that are also racist? Here's just one I found without trying really hard.
-
THe C of CC has a long history of trying to find ANY forms of racisim against whites... basically to show WHY they as good loving church going citizens need to have theri own rasict views to protect the white race from further encroachment. Sorry once again but you erased the link I was asking about. Here it is again just as you presented it. Now how exactly is this news story an example of right wing racism?

The "FEDEX" bomb theory. The counter to this is that weapons grade material actually carrys the "fingerprint" of the reactor which produces it. This is how it was established who, how & when helped Israel's nuclear program along. It's also a very strong motivation against countries "losing" fissile material. Were a FEDEX bomb to be found or detonated, say in The US, then retaliation is virtually inevitable. Governments KNOW that claiming "A Bad Boy did it & ran away" just wouldn't wash without COMPELLING reason to believe them. Yes, I've heard this argument before. Pardon me if I'm not overly reassured by it. Even if this "fingerprinting" is as infallible as you say (you realize that fingerprinting itself has been shown to be erroneous at times), it still is a tough call to launch a retaliatory nuclear strike when there's any ambiguity as to who was responsible. There's no way around it, nuclear material in the hands of suicide terrorists, or countries that directly sponsor them, is an extremely bad prospect that should be prevented at all cost.
-
Oh I'm pretty confident that MAD will prevent a direct strike that can be retaliated against. My greatest fear is that the Iranian nuclear material gets in the hands of the suicide bombers and it no longer becomes traceable to the source. MAD only works when there's a return address on the package.

Sorry, but this is an example of racism by whom?

Australian cheerleaders told to cover up midriffs

What really stood out to me is the implicit assumption that the only way to have flat abs is to cultivate an eating disorder. If a high schooler can't keep from being overweight by sensible eating choices and portion control, we're doomed as a society. -
Australian cheerleaders told to cover up midriffs

Enough of Iraq, Iran, the runaway deficit, etc. Here's a real tragedy. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/more/wires/04/15/2080.ap.australia.cheerleaders.1st.ld.writethru.0220/index.html?cnn=yes Australian cheerleaders told to cover up midriffs Posted: Saturday Apr 15, 2006 7:44 PM SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Australian cheerleaders have been banned from baring midriffs by officials of the sport who fear displays of skin may encourage eating disorders. Gymnastics Australia has ordered cheerleading troupes to find new uniforms by the end of the year. Nerine Cooper, national cheerleading manager for Gymnastics Australia, said the decision, which followed similar moves in the United States and elsewhere, was needed because cheerleaders often performed in front of family groups. "We don't want girls to feel under pressure to lose weight because of uniforms,'' she told Sydney's Sunday Telegraph. But Lisa Ince, head of Sydney Promotional Dancers, said the order was unfair. "It's ridiculous really, if the thinking is that a midriff is offensive, then every dance school and athletics club would face the same restrictions,'' Ince said. The ban will affect about 105 teams registered with Gymnastics Australia. In the United States, the National Federation of State High School Associations issued a new rule for the 2006-07 school year requiring that cheerleading uniforms cover the midriff. -

Retired US Iraq general demands Rumsfeld resign
likearock replied to stoneycase's topic in Speakers Corner
Here's my prediction. This is the perfect wedge issue for congressional Republicans to distance themselves from the President and shore up their currently dismal prospects for the '06 elections. It also aligns them with the consensus of the electorate who are dissatisfied with what's going on in Iraq. They may not bring it up now, but some time before November many of them will come out against Rumsfeld. -
As vicerally satisfying as it may be to turn Bush's words against himself, that saying does not logically fit the facts when it comes to Iran. Yes, we were fooled by flawed and probably manipulated intelligence during the build up to the Iraq war. But in the case of Iran, we don't have to rely on intelligence estimates to tell us that aluminum tools are related to WMD. The Iranians themselves are telling us that they have successfully enriched uranium. The Iranians themselves are publicly launching missles capable of holding nuclear payloads. We don't need any additional intelligence to tell us that the Iranians are solidly on the road to having nuclear weapons. To further demonstrate how different the situation is with Iran than Iraq, you are now pointing to the DIA, whom you yourself discredited for the Iraq estimates, as the ultimate source when it comes to determining our possible lead time before there is an operational Iranian weapon. But does it really matter whether it will be in two years or ten years? The fact remains that the longer we sit on our hands doing nothing, the more difficult it becomes to do anything as the Iranians further disperse and harden their nuclear facilities. In terms of comparisons with the Soviet Union, I agree completely with Andy9o8, nuclear weapons by themselves are bad enough, but when put together with a record of such extremely close ties to terrorist groups, that's a lethal combination. And while you'd have to be a fool not to recognize the ensuing terrorist threat to Israel, it could very well lead to similar threats against us. Andy sees this increased threat as primarily non-nuclear, but I'm not so optimistic. To me, a more fitting parallel for the Iran/Iraq situation is "The Boy who Cried Wolf". And we all know how that story ended.

If you were in that courtroom with Moussaoui, what would you do?
likearock replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree. If you want to reward this guy by granting him what he most wants in the world, go ahead and execute him. Remember, he wanted to be one of the suicide martyrs of 9/11 and was sorely disappointed when he was left out. -
She's got a brain, and she's extremely articulate -- how can she be a clone? She's shown very little other than she's a Bush yes man, and without someone to kowtow to, what would she do? Hasn't she presented herself as pro-choice? That definitely would put her at odds with Bush.

Quit your TSA bitching how would you like to be this guy?

Well, JUST MAYBE a real hijacker got on, then got scared and backed out, or maybe he developed a severe case of indigestion and couldn't continue. Accidently got the kosher meal? -
Really? You don't think Sen. Clinton is going to run in '08? Assuming she is re-elected in '06 (likely), it's her only chance, after that, she'll be too old and hopefully, NY will have woken up and be ready to vote her out in 2112. Anyway, why don't you think she'll make a run for it? I don't think he said she wouldn't run, just that she won't be the nominee. I agree. She may be flavor of the month much like Howard Dean was but won't carry it all the way.

I wrote: Brought to us from the corrupt party that gave us Ollie North and..... I don't recall 500,000 times. So how is it that Hillary said that???? I think the reference was to the Whitewater investigation.

You are outrageously good at twisting my words. I almost admire that skill in an abstract way. I said the right-wing religious freaks will argue that she SHOULDN'T do this. That they'll turn it into a moralistic, prohibitive position. On the other hand, Skykittykat questioned why she'd BOTHER. Your connecting her innocent, reasonable questions with my strong words against a dictatorial, moralistic group is good social engineering and might turn a casual reader against me personally, but has nothing to do with what I said. Again, it's nice of you to put words in my mouth. I really really appreciate that. That's the danger of making a preemptive strike, I'd say.

The DIA isn't perfect. They didn't pick up on AQ Khan and his significant acceleration of the pace of nuclear proliferation. Who knows what other "knowledge transfer" factors may be at work here.
-
Very doubtful. You have to think that the a lot of the recent anti-Shia attacks, particularly the ones on the sacred shrines, are the work of outsiders and in particular, al Zarqawi. The legitimate Iraqi Sunnis may be part of the insurgency but they're not completely suicidal.
